seems the 2010 yearbook is out now in audio.

it's reported there was an 8.7% increase in memorial partakers to 10,857 in 2009, up from 9,986 in 2008.. worldwide publishers for the 2008/09 service year increased 3.2%, to 7,619,270 publishers.. thanks to information posted by possible-san at the end of this thread:.

I got that quote from V's video where it also states that local congregations to not count guests and disfellowshipped people who partake in the emblems.

Well, I am experiencing a bit of 'cognitive dissonance' right now, good thing I decided not to become a witness or I would really be concerned.

did you use wt dates as well as things found from a secular perspective?

if a witness was researching the 607 dates strictly from watchtower info, would it still become clear they are wrong?

or does the wtbs *make* the dates add up...?

I was thinking throughout the day about your assertion of Neb's accession year being 624 BCE and something in my mind told me that the math does not work out to 607 BCE using Neb's 19th year for the destruction of Jerusalem (even when starting from 624 BCE).

Using a precise instrument known as a calculator, I was able to determine that the Neb's 19th year would've worked out to 605 BCE (624 - 19) which is interestingly enough the year that 'secular' scholars and historians put forth as Neb's accession year. If, however, 624 BCE was the first year Neb began his ruling, then the math works out to 606 BCE. This is VERY INTERESTING because as I recall, this was the year the WTS use to promote until it was later discovered that there was no year zero.

I'm beginning to suspect that the 'celebrated WT scholars' you refer to are indeed these guys.

You can partake, but I don't think the elders will count you as one of the annointed. According to one of V's videos, they do not count guests or disfellowshipped people who partake.

Over ten thousand partakers in 2009 huh? Personally, I beleive the society has a real problem on its hands.

There is a test for me so I need to bone up on this. Scholar has yet to show me any irrefutable evidence to promote 607 BCE.

Working out the math to 624 BCE from 607 BCE using the Bible works out great. But how did you work from 539 BCE to 607 BCE using sources other than the WT publications? Seems like only 'celebrated WT scholars' support the 607 BCE date. Where is their evidence? Does 'biblical pyramidology' count in your 40 years of research?

"Encouragement" from my mother-in-law to my wife

my wife did not attend the holiday celebrations with my daughter and i and instead chose to spend the time with her parents.

she told her mom how she saw nothing wrong with the holiday celebrations and my m-i-l told her that she was right in that the things people do this time of year are very beautiful indeed.

however, it is the reason why people do these things why we are not suppose to partake in them.

I agree with Outlaw, those scriptures she quoted have nothing to do with holidays.

Is your wife aware of that? It's really easy for JW's to not notice that sort of thing.

There is a whole lot of things my wife tries to use to support her position that have nothing to do with holidays. She tries to compare her being around my family and friends during the holidays to a recovering alcoholic being in a bar, for example. I don't see the parallel since an alcoholic is doing something that is damaging his/her body. What 'bad' consequence has ever happened from giving someone a gift at Christmas time?

Thanks for your response. The Christmas season is indeed hard on 'divided households' like mine. We tip toe around the answers we give our daughter concerning why churches put up nativity scenes. Why mommy isn't coming to nana's house to open presents, etc.. The way I see it, Jesus taught that if a man asks you to walk a mile with him, walk with him two. Her response, "Yeah, so long as that man isn't walking into darkness." My reply, "And that is exactly why I cannot join you in becoming a Jehovah's Witness. I can accompany you to some of the meetings and assemblies, but I cannot become a witness or I would find myself being in total darkness."

Interesting, an hour has now passed and there is not one response from scholar concerning the facts needed to support 624 BCE and account for the missing twenty years needed to make 607 BCE correct.

If the king's list is inaccurate, what is the accurate list? Can you show me the Bible chronology that supports 624 as the accession year? I am still trying to figure out how the WTS accounts for the missing 20 years. You haven't provided me with any information to validate your assertions. Just because "The Watchtower Says So" is not good enough. If the WT is indeed correct, the facts would be available for anyone to check. Where are the facts?
