My wife and I had a discussion about belief and God this past weekend and she said something that struck me. She said that if it was up to her, she would simply have her faith and live a good life sans religion. So I asked her why does she feel that she needs to go to the meetings and she responded, "Because I do not like the idea of dying, being buried under rocks, being drowned, or being killed by lava." Basically, she wants to ensure that she will survive Armageddon.

So what do your Jehovah's Witness friends and loved ones think of the generation teaching?
by garyneal inafter the little skit at the last assembly where one brother was asking another for understanding about the generation teaching i thought, "wow, these people will believe anything the watchtower tells them.
" the 'more mature brother' practically said verbatim everything the watchtower said as his explanation.
evidently, this is one of the sources of the increased 'murmuring' that the talked warned against.. so, has anyone brought this up to their witness friends and/or family?

Kool-Aid Man, Is Your Army Ready For The Memorial? Where did you go?

I get the anger people displayed toward Rick but sometimes I think people went too far in bashing him over his 'facts' and manner of protesting. While his behavior towards the members of this board should not be tolerated, I cannot help but to think that he must have just snapped and lashed out at that point. I guess like Mouthy said, it is probably for the best.

I asked my brother/elder if he could explain it and he just emited an awkward laugh and said "you are the only one who even knows about it" as though he hasn't heard through the org. Simply a defense mechanism because he doesn't know what to say.
Yeah, I get responses similar to that too. Something like, "You're the only one making a big deal out of it."

I asked my wife. She said "huh?"
Classic!
I asked my wife this past Sunday and she had little to say on it. It must indeed be embarrasing as knowsnothing pointed out.

Can you get banned from this forum for talking about Rick?
If so, then ban me then.

After the little skit at the last assembly where one brother was asking another for understanding about the generation teaching I thought, "Wow, these people will believe ANYTHING the Watchtower tells them." The 'more mature brother' practically said VERBATIM everything the Watchtower said as his explanation. So, has anyone brought this up to their witness friends and/or family? What is the response?

I'm not going this year. I've supported my wife by occasionally attending meetings, going to the assemblies, and even attending the memorial from time to time. I figured that it was the least I could do since she was real good about buying gifts at Christmas, going to see my family at Thanksgiving, and she even went out and bought Easter baskets for the kids.
However, everytime I go, the kids act up and I get fussed at for not being a 'good enough' parent for keeping them quiet. I guess we have different expectations for the kids but I frankly do not expect kids to sit still for two hours or more at a meeting that is totally boring to them (and me). When I take them in the hallway, she accuses me of letting them get too wild and disturb the meeting. The people in the 'sanctuary' can hear us in the hallway according to her. I don't see where we are all THAT loud and I believe the walls must be paper thin if they can hear anything louder than a whisper FROM THE HALLWAY. We got into a really BAD argument two Sundays ago because I did not think my youngest holding a set of car keys in her hand was being 'disruptive' to the others, she downright patronized me and made me feel stupid. That was the final straw for me as I tried to be supportive of this stupid religion but I can't do it anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that Rick Fearon was booted out.

Well, I need not wonder how you all think of this teaching but I do find it amazing how witnesses will not look at this teaching and not wonder how the Governing Body could try to push this nonsense on them.
When I ask my wife to explain how this teaching is even remotely correct, she shuts down or tries to side step it with the belief that it does not matter. How have your witness friends and loved ones responding to this?

An Elder's honest opinion...saw this on another site...thoughts?
by MsGrowingGirl20 inby "shadow elder".
before i express my opinion to the readers and contributors to this website (www.ex-jw.com), i would like to explain who i am and to present my bona fides as someone qualified to comment on this website and jehovah's witnesses in general.. first of all, i am an active jehovah's witness living just outside of new york city.
being a large metropolis, new york has many kingdom halls located within the city and several more in surrounding boroughs, counties, and suburbs.

Whilst a lot of what the Watchtower teaches is plainly wrong, at the same time, can somebody point me to another religion that is not even more wrong?
Define 'even more wrong?'
Iam in the position where I would Love to attend a church that teaches truth, for the same reasons I originally joined the JWs, that hasnt changed, I would go back to the JWs because I think most of them are about the nicest people you can meet, thats probably why half of them are still in it.
I see, it is that 'where else can we go' mentality that keeps a lot of witnesses in. I will admit, I was never a witness but even I fell victim to this mentality.
Nambo, it took me a while to realize this but the whole point is not to run to another church or religion as a replacement but to be free to serve God in a way that you do not find unacceptable. Good luck to you.
As to the elder, I really do appreciate his honest post about the Society.
