the question i have is, should i even bother?

i am not even sure why he wants to watch this particular video.

ive already seen it with my wife a few days ago and already seen how they leave a lot of details out concerning their teachings of old.

Well, thanks for the responses so far. I believe I will take a rain check on this Saturday to allow me more time to prepare. He has not answered my original question on blood and do want him to answer that.

I am not sure which topic I want to bring up concerning the movie. The only thing coming to my mind is the part where they made a big deal about the book called, The Finished Mystery. According to the video, the witnesses were all excited about the book while the clergy of Christendom were all upset because it had a lot of bad things to say about them. That book alone would make their beliefs of the time look like laughing stocks but I am not sure how to use it to target the dishonesty.

These are some things I do know about that book. If I have any information off please correct me.

Demons are suppose to invade the minds of Christian churches in the year 1918.
Michael the Archangel is the Pope and his cherubs are his bishops and a war broke out between pagan Rome and papal Rome.
The Leviathan is a steam locomotive.
The distance of 1600 furlongs is the distance between Scranton, PA and Watchtower headquarters in Brooklyn, NY (provided you go by way of the Hoboken Ferrey and the Lakawanna Railroad).

Any suggestions?

Don't tell him it's dishonest, make him explain it why it isn't, honestly, using documentation, or admit it. Do not move on until until he is making promises he can't keep.

I am not sure I follow you. Pause the CD but don't tell him that it is dishonest but make him explain why it isn't? Are you suggesting I provide the documentation?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think my watching it with him will hinge on whether or not my wife will be there.

Tell him that after viewing the video, you examined what Russell actucally wrote in Studies in the Scriptures and found it very, very funny that they hold his teachings in such high esteem. I know that I'd decline to watch it since my laughter would probably hurt the feelings of a JW believer.

LOL @ Billy. You know, that video made a great deal out of the seventh volumn in the series, The Finished Mystery. I made it look like that the clergy of Christendom was all upset over what was said in it. I remember saying to my wife, "If I were a member of the clergy, I would be laughing at that book." That book makes them a laughing stock that's for sure. And to think, it was hot off the presses for Christ to investigate in 1919.

That may be my angle for Brother Hero if we do end up watching the video.

Well, if he against his will is forced/encouraged to watch this film, what wouldn't make more sense than doing this as reportable time.

I see, so a waste of time. Well, I am still debating whether or not I should do it or leave it alone. If we do it, I will insist that my wife watch with me but I need to be prepared.

The question I have is, should I even bother? I am not even sure why he wants to watch this particular video. I’ve already seen it with my wife a few days ago and already seen how they leave a lot of details out concerning their teachings of old. I also indicated to him that my wife and I have already seen this DVD together.

I know the congregations are asking their witnesses to look at this video but I did not think that this included looking at them with unbelievers. My guess is that he believes that it may sway me if I took a look at its beginnings and that he has probably already seen it and feels very encouraged by it. Perhaps he feels that this is the proof he needs to show me that Christ selected them in 1919, the proof that I asked for some time ago. If it is, any advice on how I can use this video to show that it is not?

The thing that bothers me is that he still has not provided me any proof on why their blood doctrine is scripturally (not to mention logically) sound.

you can cut & paste all the excerpts from articles you want...you can leak all the boe letters, you can pretend to be witnesses and come to the conventions and meetings...but.

no other organization can begin to rival the success and magnitude of the prophecy found in mt 24:14. so apostates....don't waste your time spending countless hours digging up articles and reading books to convince yourself to turn away from jh's organization.

no matter what "evidence" you find you cannot ignore the obvious fulfillment of matthew 24:14.. .

Yawn... If this don't sound like the stuff my wife says as she is walking off trying to avoid any deep thinking. Don't waste your time, this person is not listening.

one thing i have observed being able to speak freely to individuals now about the wtbts is that even though they fade, they hold one to all or a portion of the doctrine.. if you examine the doctrine openly and fully you will see it has as many holes in it as the org does.

although it may appeal to you it doesn't make it sound scripturally.

I think they have their bible facts in order much better than all the other Christian faiths that are mixed with Pagan stuff, Trinity garbage etc.

Interesting, I can just as easily say that upon leaving the IFB's I felt that they had their Bible facts in order more so than other faiths. They believed in the 'Trinity garbage.' It's all about perspective really as I too did not leave the IFB churches because of doctrine.

I notice a lot of people who post here would often remark about some of the things that the Watchtower has right. Their favorite targets tend to be the Trinity, hell-fire, and the immortal soul. I cannot hold that against them, though. Upon leaving the IFB's, I too held on to a lot of their teachings and believed them to be correct. That is just the nature of how cultists think upon exiting their cults I guess.
