however, my wife did do some research in her wt publications and on the internet!
frankly, i was surprised she even went to the internet but i told her that to 'stay away' from 'apostate' sites all she had to do was google 'babylonian captivity' and see what comes up.

Yeah, I am just going to let the facts speak for themselves. Hopefully, she will be reasonable and at least conclude that the society may have gotten the date wrong. At the very least, she will be presented with a glaring contradiction between actual facts and what the WT teaches.

i just did a quick search on the wt cd and confirmed that that jehovah doesn't approve the salvation army.
but would a jw accept help from them just like they will accept help from the red cross?.

Frankly, I was surprised she even went to the Internet but I told her that to 'stay away' from 'apostate' sites all she had to do was Google 'Babylonian Captivity' and see what comes up. Heck, just go to wikipedia or some other online encyclopedia for that matter.
Well, I am not sure exactly how she did her research but she told me later that now SHE REALLY wants to go to the library. This is because her WT publications place the whole 'tree being chopped down and stump clamp' date to coincide with the 9th or 10th year of Zedekiah's reign over Israel. HOWEVER, Zedekiah did not ascend to the throne until 597 B.C.E. (Uh Oh).... I just told her, "It does present a conundrum, doesn't it?"
Now that I am feeling better, I hope we make some time this week to go.

Reminds me of the silly rules I encountered when I first became involved in Christianity to start with. For about a year off and on, I was attending one of the larger Southern Baptist churches in my home town. I remember the pastor's son began doing the 'running man' dance as we were leaving the service. His mom immediately told him to stop that right now in a loud commanding tone. I recall later at the IF baptist church I was attending later one of the ladies telling me that Christians are not allowed to dance.
Hmmm, where in the Bible does it ever state, "Thou shalt not dance?"
This afternoon, I saw my wife 'studying' her watchtower magazine. I don't really see the point in that exercise since the answers are right in the paragraphs and all anyone has to do is parrot them.
Where in the Bible does it ever state, "Thou shalt study your WT articles and underline the answers before coming to your christian meetings?"

Is this for real? Seems the more and more I look at this religion, the more and more ridiculous it looks. Are you are actually saying that if your WT article isn't highlighted/underlined before the meeting, they tend to look down on you?
I remember going to a meeting with my wife a few years ago and she did not have a WT. Since she did not have the WT, she was not sure how to answer the questions. I told her to simply listen to what is being read, the answer is in there. A light bulb went off in her head and she actually managed to answer a question. She later told one of the 'sisters' about it and they were like, wow isn't that nice of your husband to suggest that.
During my 'study' with the witnesses, I picked up on this point early on. I don't understand why a witness even needs to 'study' beforehand.
i spoke with a fellow ex-jw whose wife is still a jw.
she was missing some meetings, but had to get to her first meeting of the month.
she needed to turn her "time" in.
I was picking up and cleaning up around the living room and found one of those time slips for counting time laying around. As I looked at it, I could not help but to wonder why in the world is this even important? I recall when I use to attend the IF baptist church that whenever we went soul winning (basically a fundamentalist version of FS) we never counted time or report time to any pastor, deacon, etc.. We just simply went door to door, discussed the Bible, and had a good time.
Why is it so important that people actually track time that they spend out in FS? Does it really measure how 'spiritual' they are? What happens if a congregation reports low FS hours over all? Seems to me that this has the potential for fraud if you feel like your 'spirituality' and worthiness for life everlasting is dependent on this.

I've asked my wife on multiple occasions, "So, do you (collectively) go out and feed the hungry or help with homeless shelters?" Her answer, "We do not make a show of it like churches do, but we do feed them spiritually and shelter them spiritually. Jehovah God provides for is it not written, '"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." --Matthew 6:33'"
Then I said, "For believers yes, but how do you think this happens? Does not the Bible also say, '15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?' James 2:15-16."
Considering that her favorite verse she likes to use against me (...faith without works is dead) is in this same chapter, one would think that witnesses, of all people, would understand the significance of this. Instead that use the overquoted verse to stress the importance of FS and meeting attendance.
