Every time I see one of them loving their kids, I think....
by jambon1 inevery time i see photos of new jw parents cuddling up to their new babies.. every time i see people giving the parents new baby cards & gifts.. every time i see them having fun with their children.. i think to myself; 'you would shun your kids' .
if they don't end up being jw's.
if they simply publicly declare that they don't believe.

Ideas to discreetly identify the awoken among us
by Truthexplorer inok. i know this has been brought up in the past, but i have often wondered who in our halls are awake (for those of us who attend).
there are some i would consider a 'maybe', but no way of ever really knowing.. so here is my idea.
i hope it doesn't sound too masonic,.

Another one I thought of is to invite a few maybe's out for a game of pool. When asked what drink you want. You ask for a specific drink. You could jokingly say ' Scotch on the rocks...shaken not stirred :-).
On the one hand you are being comical, on the other hand you are giving the message you are awake!?

Hey Rebel,
if the elders are able to spot the awakening brothers, then they too must be awake, but in denial :-)

OK. I know this has been brought up in the past, but I have often wondered who in our halls are awake (for those of us who attend). There are some I would consider a 'maybe', but no way of ever really knowing.
So here is my idea. I hope it doesn't sound too masonic,
1/ awoken brothers could wear a silver pinky ring on their right hand. Nothing abnormal about that (Steven Left does)
2/ If you see a brother wearing a silver pinky ring, shake the brothers hand as normal and usual hello etc....but then give a nod at same time. If he is awoken, he will nod back.
3/ To make absolutely sure he is awake, wait till the month the Awake mags are out and collect the amount you need for field service. Hold them in your left hand before going up to shake the brothers hand. After his nod and during conversation he points to the Awake mags in your left hand and says ' some really good topics in the Awake this month'.
Bingo - you will know for certain he is of the awoken class. Though caution needs to be taken, but can gradually gauge things with the brother.
Though the above is a little bit of fun, it is also a real idea and discreet (not so obvious to company men lurkers).
Any other ideas. Perhaps sisters can come up with some discreet ideas for the ladies :-)

The charity Commission has refused charity status to another religion in the recent past

Thought this was interesting. See link below
In 2012, the charity commission refused charitable status to the Plymouth bretheren for a number of reasons. Some of these reasons included the 'practice' of ,'shutting up' and 'withdrawal'.
Given what can happen (ie exclusive bretheren losing charitable status) and the fact that Watchtower have pissed off the cc by going to great lengths- fighting tooth and nail- to prevent their investigations into WT policies on handling child abuse cases, domestic violence and shunning here in the uk; even taking their case to the supreme court, yet lost! WT lawyers and branch committee members must be getting pretty nervous knowing they have to face a tenacious charity commission who will go through everything with a fine tooth comb.

HB.....I had a conversation with my own daughter about the shunning policy.
I was watching a documentary on the exclusive bretheren that has a similar shunning policy. My daughter asked what I was watching. I explained it to her and then said that the woman in the documentary had been completely shunned- by her parents for years. She asked why. I said because she left her religion. She said in her own kind of way ooohhh kayyy!
I said crazy isn't it? I then said believe it or not we (Jehovah's Witnesses) are also expected to do the same. She didn't say anything. I said I can assure you darling that mummy and I would NEVER EVER do such a cruel thing..... EVER. Seed planted. She is an intelligent girl and will see things for what they are as she turns into an adult.
Sadly my wife doesn't want to hear me speak negatively of the organisation any more. She knows things aren't right, but I understand why she burys her head in the sand. Fear of facing facts and rocking the boat I guess.

It's deeply saddening that the hard core JW's will follow this Policy to the letter. After all it comes from Gods representatives here on earth (aka Morris & Co).
The 'Good News' is that the charity commission here in the UK are very much aware of it. It will be interesting to see what transpires!

Jw's and beards
by wannaexit inwithout going into details.
it appears that new light might be coming down the pipes that beards are acceptable.

I saw a lot of men wearing beards here in the uk at the convention. In fact, several young lads from one local Cong were wearing them which I was really surprised about as some are sons of elders. To me it made a big statement.
