My Latest to the Editor
by AK - Jeff indear editor:.
the letter below is somewhat longer than most you run in your newspaper, i know.
i hope you will run it however, as painting the picture of cults and their insidious control is not something that can be done in a few words.

Is school back in session where you live?
by compound complex ingreetings, back-to-school-community dwellers!.
i just heard the high school bus rumble by.
if i time my excursions on the road properly during the coming semesters, i will stay ahead of the school buses picking up/depositing kids throughout the day.. if a parent, are you really ready, once again, to start making lunches, going to soccer practice, volunteering in class?.

Yes, classes started this week. Like CC, I must either pull out of the driveway on time or follow the school bus for several miles.

A Fond Farewell
by 5thGeneration ini want to take this opportunity to say goodbye to all of the members on jwn and thank you for your support over the years.. circumstances have arisen that make it impossible for me to continue posting here.. i have truly appreciated your love and support during some hard times when i had no one else to talk to.. you showed compassion and a non-judgmental, christlike attitude for thoughts and feelings that could not be openly expressed to any of the brothers in the congregation for fear of reprisal.
for that, i am so grateful!.
thanks to the many of you that could relate to the pain and worthlessness that i have felt about myself for so many years because of my experiences and upbringing in the truth.

Farewell, 5th. I hope life leads you to new and better places, where you can live free and find peace.
If you ever again need need a safe place to vent, you know where to find us.
All the best to you,

Well done, Jeff!
If you do take Open Mind's advice to remove the Watchtower buzz words, also consider substituting a word like "sinner" for "worldly". That is less likely to trigger the reflexive Off Switch cults program into their members.
I hope it will be printed.

Yes, the WTBTS "Power" Really IS Powerful, More Than Most Imagine...
by AGuest infor they, alone, have apparently been able to do for some what no other religion, teaching, philosophy, belief, or faith, was able to do: turn some completely away from the most holy one of israel, jah of armies.
may you all have peace.... of course, such ones may want to attribute their "change of heart" to something they call "atheism", but that really isn't the truth.
atheism didn't call them; atheism was simply the final "oasis" to which they fled when the wtbts proved itself to be a "waterless region"... a wasteland... desolate.

They are NOT worth a second of my breath, let alone what it takes to be... and stay... angry with them.
That sentence sums up this topic very well. It's a hard lesson, one I must work on every day. Staying angry accomplishes nothing; learning from a bad exerience and moving on in a more productive direction is the best we can do with our lives. We're not all headed in the same direction, but we are alike when we strive to put the abyss of despair behind us.
Peace to you too, Shelby!

Attended a funeral this morning
by man in black ina lady i work with recently lost her husband to brain cancer, she is a very nice person so i made it a point to attend his memorial.
mass at the local evangelical church.. as the service went on, the pastor had asked the man's son, brother, and two sisters to give a little speech about their father, and brother.. it was one of the most emotional things i ever witnessed at a funeral.. .
remember, most of these people are from a different religion, or don't have any belief at all.. the brother gave a very nice talk about growing up together, one sister just stuck to her written script, it was very hard for her to speak in public.. the other sister read a letter that she started when her brother discovered that he had cancer, so her letter covered events for two years.. she started crying several times when something she was reading struck her, yet she was able to laugh, and get the entire church to laugh along with one of her personal observations regarding her brother as he grew up.. the most emotional part was when his 23 year old son got up and read a tribute that he wrote to his dad,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

There were two funerals I attended this summer. The contrast in "people skills" was startling.
The first was for the brother of a "Brother" I know through the Ex's congregation. The whole thing lasted but fourty-five minutes. The eulogy was the obituary from the local newespaper, verbatim. My impression was that the elder who performed the service either didn't know the deceased at all, or had nothing good to say about him (if he was at all like his surviving brother, that couldn't possibly be the case). It was dry, it was sad, it was not consoling, as short as it was the atmosphere was so depressing I couldn't wait for it to be over.
The second was for the husband of an elderly lady I work with. This was at the biggest evangelical church in town. Despite having a congregation of thousands, the minister had many good, first-hand stories to tell about the man and his family. The service was supportive and respectful, including a Navy honor guard playing taps for this WWII veteran. This funeral was about honoring the deceased and supporting his survivors, not just giving another canned talk.

What Beliefs/ Practices of Jehovah's Witnesses do you Disagree With Most?
by flipper inmost of us either when exiting the witnesses or after exiting have certain beliefs/practices that bothered us so much we could not suport this organization anymore.
what were your breaking points ?
here were a few of mine :.

- Blood policy: a loyalty test coming as close to human sacrifice as they can get away with
- Psychological manipulation to coerce obedience to the org. (Zid's #5, stated more bluntly)
- Treating their own publications as equal to the Bible, even superior to it
- Polarized, false dichotomy mind set, leading to...
- Us-against-the-world bunker mentality

New Apostate here
by skitt ini did not know where to start, but figured the personal experience section was a good place to begin.
won't bore you with all the particulars today....but i was raised in "it" (wont call it the truth, cause it ain't) from about 1968. baptized in 1985, faded about 2001.....woke up from the insanity after reading ray franz forbidden book a few years ago(crisis).
only sorry i did not read it earlier....but there was that fear factor instilled in me.
