Finding peace
by Nickolas inthis is for those of you who are familiar with my periodic rants about being married to a jehovah's witness.
you won't be seeing any more of them.. my wife and i were up before dawn on friday and spent the entire day on our boat, trolling 10 miles from shore and talking.
we talked about our lives together, the ground we've covered in the 40 years since we met as university freshmen.

I'd tell them about a gentleman in town who went to the Kingdom Hall. I'd describe the successful small business he ran, drop names of people who patronized his shop, even though it's halfway accross the country, because he did such fine work. But no, you won't see him at the meetings, because the Watchtower doesn't allow blood transfusions, and he's dead now because he listened to them!
Most non-Witnesses know little about the Watchtower blood dogma, nor have they seriously pondered its consequences. Do them a favor, tell them about it before they swallow the bait!

Anne has good advice. For packing anything fragile, be sure the box is in perfect condition (new if possible)--wrap or pad each piece separately--make sure nothing is near any surface of the box, bottom sides or top (at least 2" away, according to UPS)--add extra padding to fill left-over spaces, so that nothing can shift or rattle around inside--seal the box with proper packaging tape, closing up the entire seam to use the strength of all the material in the top flaps (not masking tape, not just tucking in the flaps). The carefully set the boxes aside, to be loaded last in the safest possible place where nothing can fall on them, or crush them, and where they won't bounce around (buckled in to the back seat of the car, if there's room). If it must go with other items on a truck, use double boxing: fully pack the fragile items into a box, then pad and pack that box inside a larger one.
UPS, FedEx etc. have packing guidelines--which come from huge amounts of experience. Use their experience to your advantage.
Good luck with the move, CoCo!

Snakes = Married
by SnakesInTheTower init has been over a month and a half since i have even been on the board, and that really only to ask about gps units (got a tom-tom) and mention the new job.
way too busy with life - post jw now 4 years.. of course, the new job has benefits, health insurance, etc.
(including unlimited use of the company car for personal use and the company pays for the unlimited gas for about a $25/week out of my check -- huge benefit) and this has enabled toni and i to finally after a two year engagement, to get married.

Alienation of affection?
by Snoozy ini wonder if the jw's leaders can be sued when they disfellowship someone in a family and then the family shuns them?
after all the jw leaders are the sole cause of a loved one getting the shaft from their family members..right?...
isn't that what "alienation of affection means?
-

In most US states "alienation of affection" laws have been repealed. As with "no fault divorce", the law treats marriage breakups as contract disputes.

A question for the economist, roll back the gas prices.
by jam inthe goverment mandate a freeze on oil prices and.
roll the price back to $2.
a gallon for two years.. how would it help the economy.
-
GLTirebiter
Gasoline is already about $2.00 gal. The rest is taxes.
I understand your sentiment, but the numbers are exaggerated. State gas taxes (including sales tax, where applicable) range from a low of 8.0 cents cents/gallon in Alaska to a high of 47.7 cents/gallon in California. With the 18.4 cent/gallon federal tax, the total is 28.4 cents to 66.1 cents. So the present price of gas itself is around $3/gallon (more or less, depending where you live) rather than $2, with the rest being taxes.

If Fred Franz hadn't been such a witch-hunter, Ray Franz may have stayed on the GB and Crisis of Conscience may never have been written. By driving Ray out of the organization, Fred saved thousands from the clutches of the Watchtower.
