it was held at the santa clara convention center in the silicon valley http://www.santaclara.org/conventioncenter/ which is an improvement over the old s.f.
cow palace which is still used..just not as much.

I'm gonna have to decline your invite
by mrsjones5 inmy mother just told me today that her cousin's wife has extended an invite for me to attend their 35th wedding anniversary.
i find that i'm not in the mood to be surrounding by a group of jws especially since said cousin and his wife are both jws and i did accept the wife as a friend on facebook where i've been none too discreet about my distaste for the society.

the 2011 yearbook reported a 4.37% growth rate (based on 2010 membership figures).
according to the 2012 yearbook, the growth of the jehovah's witnesses was 1.85%, falling into 4th place.

Those are interesting figures, but the NCC report does not indicate how (or if) they vetted the data. The phrase "reported a membership of..." suggests these are figures various churches reported to them. They could be the total (baptized and unbaptized publishers) minus total (disfellowshipped or diassociated). Or it could be the total enrollment in their congregations. Or it could be estimated attendance at this year's Easter service. Others may be counting diifferent names appearing on checks in the collection basket.
I think it would be better to report the number of active members, information more meaningful than counting names on baptismal records.

I agree with OTWO. If you lived close by that is one thing, but a three hour drive is something else. Send a note expressing your regrets for not being able to make it. Include a gift card (less tacky than a check, and your bank account number isn't on it).

Than non-Witnesses who did have a transfusion, or those who didn't, or all non-Witnesses? That is not clear. The article lacks the details readers need to form a valid conclusion.
There are many variables the article does not talk about. An obvious factor is that "bloodless" surgery is likely to be done by more highly skilled surgeons in better equipped hospitals than average. Another is the relatively low percentage of Witnesses who smoke. Without seeing the details of their methodology, especially matching the abilities of care providers and the underlying condition of the patients, this news report is only...a news report.

If you cannot produce a different, more plausible, and scripturally accurate meaning of Jesus' words, how can you say for sure that JW's explanation of it is wrong?
Start by reading the passages before and after that one(*). They are all about being prepared, about not knowing the day and time. Now read the "faithful servant" passage, staying mindful of that context. What is that passage about? Is it an abrupt change in topic to identify a ruler of the faithful, immediately followed by a return to the previous topic? Or is it consistent with the other passsages in Matthew 24 and 25, a warning to always be ready because you never know when the time--your time--will come?
The Watchtower interpretation only makes sense in isolation. It does not fit when the passage is read in context.

How big of a deal is Kingdom Hall Weddings ?

That works no more than once (having been to a half-dozen or so KH weddings as my ex's UBM, I speak from personal experience). Outsiders catch on very quickly that the "wedding talk," rather than being lovingly composed based on a close relationship with the bride and groom, follows a standard script. By the time the last of my ex-in-laws was married, I could tell if the Elder/MS goofed and missed a part.

yep, over 2.5 million copies of the book have been sold, and the author is a woman (kathleen meyer).. now, if you are a man, do you feel comfortable with a woman telling you "how to shit in the woods"?
this book is in its third edition, in 8 languages to boot.

Yes, it's real book with real, practical advice. I have a copy.
As for what to do with the used paper, when fire regulations allow I strike a match and burn it right there in the hole; after it goes out refill the hole buring the ashes. The real problem is above tree line, where there's little to no dirt covering the rock. It's hard to dig a proper cat-hole in granite. Be careful when picking up loose rocks, there may be a surprise underneath.
And never wipe with poison oak, no matter how deperate you are!
