don't know if i spelled that correctly, but am wondering just what books were contained in it.
and if memory, or lack there of, serves me wasn't there a hebrew and a greek one???

The Catholic Church DID include them in the canon.
The RCC Septuagint excludes 3 Macc and 4 Macc; they are in various Orthodox churches' translations.
Or could it just be that these books didn't fit certain peoples doctrinal agendas?
I'm at a loss: how could anybody object to Wisdom and Sirach (Ecclesiaticus)?

let me introduce you to a term used in the roman catholic church you may not be familiar with: governing body.
in the roman catholic church the word "magisterium" refers to the teaching authority of the church.
this authority is understood to be embodied in the episcopacy, which is the aggregation of the current bishops of the church, led by the bishop of rome (the pope), who has authority over the bishops, individually and as a body, as well as over each and every catholic directly.
They also had this little thing called the Dark Ages where the rank and file weren't taught to read or allowed to own a Bible.
There was nothing unusal or sinister about that. Literacy was a perogative of the ruling class long before the church existed. Owning books (any books, not just the Bible) was financially impossible for most people until Gutenberg lowered the cost of the printed word; only the wealthy could afford them. Books were prohibitively expensive for the lower classes when they had to be copied by hand. The only hope the average person had to become literate was to join a Catholic monastary and devote their life to making new copies of the Bible with pen and ink.
Mass literacy is a modern phenomenon. Don't make conclusions about life in Europe 1500 years ago based on 2010 in America.

but first, i'm going to set the question up properly.. the original christianity became officially established when the catholic church found constantine as its protector and defender in the mid 4th century.. that church grew mighty, powerful and exerted an influence over vast reaches of the earth.. the church had an absolute fetish for anything of nature deemed "holy" that might be a relic of jesus or his apostles or (as time went by) any saint.. this took the form of conserving the true cross, splinters from the true cross (one in the pope's ring!
) the bones of martyrs, robes, chalices, knuckles, fingers, etc.
Doesn't it seem very odd to you...that...THE BIBLE itself was NOT PRESERVED??
That's a puzzling statement to me. The thing is, the Bible wasn't the unified work(s) we know today until centuries after Christ, when Christians could practice and communicate their faith openly. Before then, it existed as many different books and letters, and no one group accepts all of them to this day. The biblical canon wasn't formally completed (by Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant, churches) until the time of the Reformation. So saying "the Bible", as though there has always been a definitive version, is misleading. Ever since there were books of the New Testament (let alone the very concept of a New Testament), there have been different collections of the various works collectively known as the Bible. The various churches' efforts to standardize their Bibles were an effort to find order amid the scriptural chaos ensuing from centuries of Roman persecution, not a casual disregard of an ideal Bible that never existed.

so it appears that jws are letting their freaky side come out on fb for everyone to see.. there was talk on the ca yesterday strongly warning all true lovers of jehovah to delete their fb accounts.
the talk was solely about fb.
the speaker mentioned that jws are associating with people that would not associate with in real life, often using the excuse that the person is a relative.
Here's the reason they want JWs off of facebook: they might become fans of the Pope!

This is a big reason why I won't let the WT ruin my relationship with our children. They have the talent to make something of themselves, and I want them to have the opportunity to do so. My JW Ex seems to be of like mind, fortunately. Perhaps she sees now how her dreams and prospects were curtailed by the WT anti-education teachings, and wants our children to enjoy the opportunities she was denied.

i am in urgent need of a medical professional (in coaatal carolina are - between charleston and savannah) for my jw wife -blood count dangerously low.. released from hospital with blood count at 5.5 and "there is nothing else we can do for you here that you cannot do at home (iron supplements, high iron/protein diet)..
Alternator, I don't have much advice to offer you that hasn't already been said. You're in the position I have dreaded: having a loved one risk her life for the sake of Watchtower treachings. For my (now Ex) wife I probably would have made the same decision you did: allowing her, as an adult, to make a decision that I find reprehensible. But for our minor children, I could never allow their lives to be risked as a WT loyalty test.
I hope you have consulted your own pastor for guidance on dealing with this. Since you have said that you are Catholic, consider articles 2280 and 2282 of the Catechism and how they relate to this situation: are you being pressured to cooperate with a suicide, a willful refusal to protect one's own life? That is why I mention getting advice from the clergy.
I hope all goes well for your wife, despite the medical teachings of the Witch Doctor Society. Please let us know how things turn out.

although a cult, jehovah's witnesses should not be underestimated as to their smarts.
sometimes, exiting jw's, due to indoctrination, feel a lot of guilt for leaving.
of course, the governing body wouldn't have it any other way.. upon leaving, many for the first time feel a freedom to express themselves, which is as it should be.
These so called Sensible business men parted with their company money based on the power of the spoken word.
Acolytes, I always marveled at how easily management consultants could get somebody to buy into their programs. I think it does have similarities to followers of the WT: when you think there's a problem and are at a loss for the answer, it's tempting to follow a convincing sales pitch. Whether the product is good or bad, the buyer is comforted to know that they have done the right thing by listening to an authoritative source.

Yes Moshe, that happens to us loose cannons from time to time! Somebody once called me that at work. He thought it was a rebuke, but I felt somewhat flattered. No problem ever gets solved by pretending it isn't really a problem.
