WHO ARE THE FALSE PROPHETS TODAY?
by Dogpatch inwho are the false prophets today.
by barbara anderson.
in 1991, one of the watch tower societys senior writers, colin quackenbush, told me in the privacy of his office about letters which the society had received from prominent and credible elders, not apostates (thats exactly what he said), who were concerned about the increase in accusations saying that jehovahs witnesses were false prophets.

Did you mark your calendar for sundown, September 5th 1975? Many witnesses did, because this wasn't some overzealous local MS saying it, it's straight from the top. False prophesy.

"Come Be My Follower" - Christendom is bad for sponsoring charities and feeding the poor - what?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini just got the "come be my follower" book and am shocked at their illustration on page 186. maybe i'm more shocked that at one time i would have accepted this warped reasoning.. first they quote jesus at matt.
7:21-23: "'lord, lord, did we not...perform many powerful works in your name?
' and yet then i will confess to them: i never knew you!

Is it just the late hour affecting me, or is there genuine irony in the WT using window-washing as a bad example?
The problem with this WT book is yet another false dichotomy. Charity vs. teaching the Gospel isn't an either/or choice; "both" is the answer. Baby sitters can look after the children properly and help out with some cleaning after putting them to bed; these are what parents call "good" baby sitters whom they will hire over and over again. Likewise most churches don't practice charity to the exclusion of everything else, they teach the Gospel and also go out in the world to put Jesus' teachings into action. The popular expression is "practice what you preach": Christians do it, hypocrites don't.

Introducing myself
by Jeremy430 ini'm mostly here to meet new like minded friends.
growing up in the religion has jaded my perspective.
most of my believes the wts is bs, but there is that part in the back of my mind that fears they have the truth.

Welcome to the forum Jeremy and Cooks!
In addition to all the printed books you've been pointed to, be sure to look through the many articles online at freeminds. They also sell many of the printed books that have been recommended to you.

They have a table at the local Walmart now
by life is to short inomg i just heard this morning that they have a table set up at the local walmart, so i had to drive by.
it is huge with two huge signs one spanish and one english of blown up pictures of some of the book covers like you can live forever and young people ask, etc with a card table in the middle and two very boarded looking people just sitting there.
this morning was the spanish congo's turn but the walmart is in my halls territory so the english speaking ones from my hall will man it on the english speaking times i guess.

Witnesses around here sign up for time at a "free speech" table located in the visitors' center at our nearby National Park. It's a way to contain the prosyletizing in a limited area while no tprohibiting it outright, which would lead to lawsuits.
I suspect Wal-Mart would need a similar policy: if they let the Girl Scouts sell cookies and the Salvation Army set up their donation kettles, they can't discriminate against other non-profit organizations without risking a lawsuit. The Watchtower organization has the legal savvy to know this, and use it to their advantage.

Because you have children. Children who are gonna watch your EVERY move for awhile, because they NEED to know the truth.
Shelby is right, you are now your children's role model for what an ex-JW really is. Show them a good example, don't bring those Watchtower stereotypes to life.

NVL, I'm sorry it's come to this painful turn for you.
Now is time to look out for your children. Most important, don't put them in a position where they are pressured to take sides with one parent or the other--and don't let your wife make them do that, either! Neither of you should be telling them details of why you're breaking up, about who did what to whom, or speak ill of the other parent (even if it is true, don't put children in the middle of adult disputes).
It may sound odd, but splitting up means you and your wife must now work together more than ever as parents. The worst part of a break-up is the effect on the children. Do what you can and must to take care of them, physically financially and emotionally. Expect to turn the other cheek many, many times--just remember that now you're doing it for the sake of your children, not for your wife.
It starts out rough, but trust those who have been there, with patience and time it will improve. Call out on the board when you need support.
