Sylvia, I'm happy to see you posting again! I'm sorry to hear you're having down days and computer hassles all at the same time, not at all a week worth remembering. I hope things are better soon!

What,s the difference between A fortuneteller and one who predict the end of time?
by jam infortune-tellers, magic, people that have extraordinary.

Fortune-tellers stay close enough to the truth that what they predict will sometimes actually happen.
A trait shared by expert fortune tellers and doomsday prophets alike is their skill in reading their patrons' character and desires, so they can predict something the clients want to hear and are willing to pay for.

Please remember that our little friends in fur coats need lots of water & some shade if no AC can be shared. Also, when walking them, remember their pads are very sensitive to heat and can get burned on hot pavement.
yes, keep the water dish filled. A small wading pool helps too, so they can dip hot paws and bodies in the water.

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth - Matt 5:5 anyone?
by punkofnice inon another thread concernedjw used an interesting quote from jesus at matt 5:5 'the meek shall inherit the earth.
' fair comment i'd say.
but jesus didn't say 'paradise' earth.. now i know some of you don't believe in the bible (which i respect), and i'm not after a debate.. what i'm interested to hear is how you would refyte that jesus was not talking about a jw 'paradise earth'.

IMHO Jesus was rather quoting from Psalms.
Yes, this reflects Psalm 37:10-11...
A little while longer, and the wicked will be no more,
search his place well, he will not be there;
but the humble shall have the land for their own
to enjoy untroubled peace.
..and also Proverbs 2:20-22
So you will pursue the way of good men,
persisting in the in the paths of the viruous.
For the land will be for honest men to live in,
the innocent will have it for their home;
while the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the faithless rooted out of it.
Nothing there about "paradise earth", nor mention of any special "class" to rule over the land. This theme recurs in Matthew 23:12-13, from another point of view. Instead of solace for the downtrodden, this version is a warning to their oppressors:
Anyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and anyone who humbles himself will be exalted.
Alas to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who shut up the kingdom of heaven in men's faces, neither going in yourself nor allowing others to go in who want to.

Try a cool bath or shower. Nausea from heat is a warning sign, get yourself cooled down!

Anyone wanna place a bet on what will happen to me when I have to go to the Kingdom Hall this Saturday??
by Coffee House Girl inwell since there is no "betting" (as it reeks of gambling) in jdub land, lets place a friendly wager on what will happen to me when i go to my father's "memorial" service at the kingdome hall this saturday..... to give you newbies background info: i am neither df'd or da'd- i left 2 years ago with no explanation.
i have been hounded by elders in my cong because they have suspicions that i am living with a man, but they have no proof (well, no proof in jdub land- you know...two witness rule).
after many attempts to get me to meet with them- i finally sent the elders a "cease & desist" letter after one of them spied in my miniblinds to see me eating breakfast with someone (they couldn't identify who).

I'd like to think it would be (d)--mind their manners out of respect for the bereaved. But my own limited experience at JW funerals tells me to slake by thirst by saying (b)--love bombing.

Should there be restrictions on who can donate blood?
by Snoozy infound this article on a "gay like" man that was refused and it got me to wondering..i really didn't know the rules!.
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/man-says-rejected-blood-bank-seeming-gay-151627659.html.
an indiana man says a blood donation center rejected him as a donor because he appears to be gay--even though he isn't.. .

I'd rather go through this every single time I donate rather than let one questionable unit of blood enter the system.
I agree! While I appreciate anybody who who is willing to donate blood, this is an issue of safety.
The donor qualifications also bar you for risky heterosexual behavior (prostitution, etc.), illegal drug use, travel to countries with histories of malaria and Crutzfeldt-Jakob disease, being in jail for more than three days, even taking many common prescriptions. My experience with US volunteer blood banks is the same as Scully describes for Canada.

The original story says this was at a paying plasma center, which is a high risk situation. There is a history of addicts lying on the questions so they can donate to get some quick cash. (This surprised me, I thought all the paid plasma centers were shut down years ago.) My experiences at Red Cross and similar volunteer donation centers was nothing like this.
There is a long list of qualifications, which you can read here.
