If they keep this up, they could go the way of the Shakers: down to a small handful of members, because they believe they must be celibate. Between the lack of born-ins and the ramifications of becoming a convert, it's no wonder they have virtually vanished.

Want to read a surprising comment/complaint posted on my website about JW's encouraged not to have kids. Who would have thought!
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://watchtowerdocuments.org/did-you-know-having-children/#comment-474.
here's the short article found in the "did you know?
" series found on watchtower documents, and, underneath it, is the unusual comment:.

I'm surprised that China hasn't tried to covertly remove the present wacky President of North Korea and replace him with someone more stable.
How do we know that they haven't? There was a reason Fearless Leader had his own kin poisoned...he may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean that nobody is out to get him.

Jehovah's witness doctrine on "only 144,000 are born again" easily debunked!
by yogosans14 inthese verses in particular were an eye opener for me.
of course in the jws i thought only 144,000 are truly born again and are part of the new covenant but the bible says else wise.
i know most here will disagree with me but try to have a open mind here :).

"After that I saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe, and language; they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the lamb, dressed in white robes and carrying palms in their hands."

Aren't you a bit amazed that the WTS/JWS is still around ?
by Finkelstein ini know i am, to me its a bit of a peculiar anomaly that the wts is still around and functioning in reflection of its decades and now complete century that the wts has been bullshitting to people .
organizations like the church of god have shrunk dramatically from its heyday of the 1980's, this too was another organization that spread and grew by publishing its own magazine proclaiming a armageddon soon doctrine and its main publication was called " the truth " .
i'm guessing some of this has to do with the fact that people who get lured into this cult aren't aware of its past, its doctrines, the people who started it and so forth.

The leaders following Herbert W. and Garner Ted changed them to a more mainstream Evangelical sect. They no longer call themselves Worldwide Church of God, and would hardly recognize the original teachings...though witnesses might, as their respective founders had many doctrines in common. -

A nice part about working for a small, family-owned business is having cake and greetings honoring all employees with recent birthdays at every monthly staff meeting. The owners pay for it.

The Bible Texts Watchtower has never commented on
by ILoveTTATT2 inthe watchtower library is a great tool to learn more about the watchtower itself.
for example, answering the question "does the word "organization" ever appear in the bible"?
is easy to answer using it.

John, chapter 6. Were does it say it is meant only for "the anointed"? Where does it mention "emblems"? How can "eat" and "drink" be interpreted to mean "do not partake"?

Hello Sylvia, good to see you're still here! Enjoy the new tablet. It seems to me your grandson deserves to be bragged about.

200,000 evacuated last night in Northern California.
by compound complex inwhere a few of us here on the forum live is in an emergency situation.
the main spillway on oroville dam -- the tallest dam in the usa -- is damaged.
the emergency spillway, never used before in the 48 years the dam has operated, is eroding.. major confusion and panic occurred when the order went out sunday, late afternoon: this is not a drill!.

This Mercury-News report discusses what is (and isn't) happening to the dam. The dam itself is in good shape, but the main spillway (drain) was damaged, and had to be throttled back to about 1/3 its maximum flow to avoid its complete failure. The emergency spillway is basically a deliberate low spot where water can flow out if the level gets too high, something which has never happened until now. The emergency spillway's capacity was identified as a limitation years ago, but the money was not spent to upgrade it. The article states:
In denying the request, an engineer for the federal government wrote that "during a rare flood event, it is acceptable for the emergency spillway to sustain significant damage."
That "acceptable risk" has become reality.

TV commercial seen in the United States, from a Law firm "Asking if you were ever sexually abused by JEHOVAHS WITNESSES, please call".
by Dunedain inok, so i don't know if this is "old news", and if this has been seen, and or mentioned already.
if it was, i do apologize, but i feel i have to mention what has been seen on tv, within the past 24 hours.. first off, i would like to say that i did not personally see this commercial.
however, it was seen by someone that i can verify 100% is telling the truth, as it was my own father who saw it.

I'd bet that they have ongoing relationships with "expert witnesses" and a file of background documents ready to use for filing cases against the WTBTS. Having done the research once, preparing another case for a client with similar claims takes less time, and they have presumably found an effective strategy to settle these cases.

Which bible translation do you think is best and most acurate?
by NikL infor those that still care to read the bible of course.
those that don't, please keep the snarky comments to yourselves :-).
i am assuming nwt is not very popular?.

"Best" and "Most Accurate" are not necessarily equivalent. The Bible is not a text book, not all in a single literary style, not a product of any single cultural era, and not even written in a single language (let alone a single dialect of the language).
Literal, word-for-word "formal equivalence"" translations may be technically accurate in a scholarly sense, but the thought for thought "dynamic equivalence" versions make better sense of ancient idioms that are foreign to modern ears. Much was originally verse, to be recited as poetry or sung aloud. Trying to accomplish all these goals in a translation is, needless to say, very difficult. My own preference is the original (1966) Jerusalem Bible, followed by NRSV. The New Jerusalem Bible is OK, but is not of the same literary excellence as the original. I understand the CTS New Catholic Bible uses the 1966 text, except for changing "Yahweh" to "Lord" (required for readings used in Catholic worship services) and using a different translation of the Psalms; I have never read this one myself.
