I think a JW not saying "Jesus is Lord" has alot to do with the WT Mediator Teaching and WT application of NT scriptures to the annointed only. The average JW don't feel a close attachment to Jesus. Jehovah has all the power.

Sexual abuse and how the WTS handles it - 2 issues that get confused
by Lady Lee inthe wts proudly proclaims that its 2-witness rule is sufficient to deal with cases of sexual abuse.
and internally they would have the right to hold to that policy.. but they fail to separate the internal handling of the case with the external -- going to the authorities.
the wts uses it 2 things to stop jws from going outside the congregation.. they believe their policy is higher than the world's policies on dealing with the abuse.

Since these court issues, has ANY THING changed at all in their handling of abuse?
In the UK, the victim / victim's family are told they can report the abuse to the secular authorities if they want to, without Judicial consequence.
I don't think this is the case in the US.

My experience
by spawn inthought i'd better say hi!
to say i was once a "worldly person" would be an understatement.
i consider myself to be a man who has "been there and done that" and enjoyed all the pleasures of the world.

The cliques, the power plays among the brothers, the lack of sheparding, phoney love etc are pretty much in every congregation. Welcome.

They get most of their "new light" from old commentaries. Sadly, I think that says all that needs to be said.
How are they able to come to WTBS or "annointed" only doctrinal application in the New Testament such as you would find in the Revelation Climax Book? I can't imagine that their application would be anything remotely close to what is referenced in those commentaries.
I remember reading in COC that 'worldy commentaries are used but I had no idea that the Writing Dept is still using them.

The Rise of the Conscious Class
by truthseeker in"i believe in one god, and no more; and i hope for happiness beyond this life.
i believe the equality of man, and i believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy.
but, lest it should be supposed that i believe many other things in addition to these, i shall, in the progress of this work, declare the things i do not believe, and my reasons for not believing them.

Great post. Like Miseryloveselders i look around the hall for any hint that there is someone of like mind listening with irritation. I'm so thankful i found this site, i would be in the looney bin without a place to process my doubts and thoughts.

More evidence that WTS is hurting for $$$ - change to special pioneer mileage reimbursement
by sir82 inper a letter sent to all special pioneers in the us:.
previously the society reimbursed the special pioneers at a flat rate of x cents per mile, to cover the cost of gasoline and maintenance on their cars.
if i recall correctly, it may even have been the standard irs allowable deduction, something like 40-50 cents per mile.. beginning in 2010, the society will reimburse for mileage only, and strictly follow a mathematical formula, using:.

Another thought - Maybe there is another wave of Bethel layoffs and this new "arrangement" will offset new sp pios that will be added to the field.

Why am I Renouncing My JW Faith...Part 2
by tjlibre ini left off on my first posts on this topic with this sentence: one of the big discoveries and the genesis of my semi-apostate ways came one day when i decided to look up some of the books cited in the reasoning from the scriptures book (almost 99% of the works cited by the society were available at the universitys library).
the research that was meant to solidify my faith in the jw religion, actually made the first crack on the foundation of my faith.. .

Blondie,
I've been lurking for along time and I appreciate your efforts in preparing the comments every week esp since you are not always feeling well. For now, I have to keep up with this crap. Thanks so much.
Unfornately, I had to attend the mtg today. It seemed to me that the WT is implying that if we are praying for anything other than the preaching work or the santification of god's name, our motives are questionable and self-centered. Also, if you commit a serious sin, praying to god is not enough. You must confess to the elders.
Wives can pray for their husbands to get a position but they have to work in harmony with their prayers...barf! Slacker JW men watch out!
Although it's not expressly stated, it's implied that it's not cool to pray for "worldly" folk. The majority congregation commented on this.
When the paragraphs on holding hands were covered, ALL of the elderettes commented that it was ok for couples to hold hands discreetly but the minions better keep there hands to themselves. It was funny, the best part of the lesson!

Did You Exit the Witnesses Due to Injustices / Difference with Doctrine-Both?
by flipper inmany of us leave due to injustices committed inside the organization.
i did initially.
i had doubts about some doctrines for years - but not until after leaving the witnesses was i free to be able to confirm my suspicions and see that yes, i did have valid reasons to have doubts all those years .

I'm exiting for both reasons. The lingering doubts were always there but i pushed them back. But I faced those doubts head-on and started researching AFTER i saw firsthand injustice among the BOE and lack of love in the congregation.

1975 For Deniers
by Farkel in1975 for deniers.
most of today's jws were not members in 1975 or in the 9 years prior to 1975, so they were not eyewitnesses to what really went on during that period.
i was a pioneer in that period, and i was an eyewitness to what went on.. those jws who are still active today and who were around in that period will typically say it was the "brothers" who "ran ahead of jehovah" and "read more into" the 1975 prediction than what was actually stated.

1975 came up many times over the years in my family. When the end didn't come, my mother viewed it as her second chance at getting "in" before the Big A drops. She first studied in the early 70's under the "six month plan" with my aunt and didn't progress. Like clockwork, the aunt dropped the study and withdrew her association. My mother studied again in the late 70's, that time it took!
The frenzy regarding 1975 was very real, so was the letdown. My mother never attributed the absence of the Big A in 1975 as false prophecy, she saw it as jahgod acting mercifully...right. Seeing in print the "six month plan" took me back to those conversations.
