IA with everyone that has said there are better alternatives to converse regularly with native speaker. Check out, meetup dot com for groups in various languages that get together regularly. Also, there are language institutes and cultural associations within the city that put on regular events and outings for lingual immersion.
As a male, it's hard to fade from a foreign language congregation. Those circuits are desperate for men. Once you show up, you're officially on the radar.

I remember this site, it was very popular in my area as well. Ringo, Myspace and a still fledgling Facebook were specifically mentioned by name at an assembly as being questionable entertainment.

given the weird dynamic of conversations with jw's, sometimes you only get the effect of it if you hear a recording of it.
i was wondering if it's illegal to post recorded conversations with them on the internet without their permission.
what about posting a typed-out transcript as long as the speakers are not identified?
Whatever you decide, omit personal identifiers out of the transcript and/or recording.
i was almost as worried as if i was giving a talk instead of my wife last night.

Props for supporting your wife and her choice to worship as she chooses. Even if she doesn't understand and support your choice.
SD-7 - I think last night showed me that if I really wanted to, I could simply go back to them, declare my faith in the 'faithful slave', and pretend none of this ever happened. It would show up in dreams and oft-buried thoughts, but it could all disappear. I think the sense of loss that these choices have resulted in is so deep that I don't think it matters anymore. It's just so hard to endure such ostracism, even though it is for the right reasons.
SD-7 - It is possible, I suppose, to be reprogrammed by them.
These are my fears as well, that's why I stay away from meetings. Intellectually, you know that the teachings are wrong. But the emotions, sense of familiarity and longing for family are often the reasons many go back.
can anyone recommend some good books on abusive relationships and how they relate to people joining cults?
i have heard of steven hassan in the cult area, but what about the abusive relationship aspect?.

i was wondering where (articles or books) the wt teaches that if you start a study & then stop, you become "bad association" and are treated almost like a df.
is this anywhere in the literature, or is it only an unwritten practice?
in the dictionary of jw-ese (http://www.cftf.com/dictionary/index.html#b), it says the practice has been discontinued, and i am wondering what an active jw would say about it if i asked.
