i see i only get to post one thread a day so i'd better make this one count.. did anything scary or bad (besides shunning, etc.
) happen to you after you left?
what about if you decided to join another religion?.
I have panic attacks when entering churches, but I haven't been to one in a while, so that might not be a problem with anymore. That's just me though. You shouldn't have any issues... The majority of American's have been to a church with no problems; the only thing really holding you back is your own fears. Have you thought about going to a Unitarian Church at first, though? The more secular nature might make the transition a little bit easier on you at first.
Might be a good idea to do a lot of research before you jump into bed with any one particular group, though. I'm still trying to separate out my own beliefs from the things that I was taught as a JW, and I found out that a lot of things that I held dearly was a bunch of bologna. Just my two cents.
Oh, and a belated welcome to the forum.
recent news item in the uk.
this guy received a 8 month jail sentence which case was prosecuted under "hate crime" laws.
this is a very similar situation to the recent case that cedars, amelia, cantleave and others have pursued in hampshire with the police.
"Political statement" in the sense that the punishment was ill-suited for the crime but instead done to deter others... Which is manipulative, but whatever.
Thanks for the background. Makes much more sense now.

Yeah... But that is extremely mild compared to the stuff I see every day. I was hoping that someone could elaborate a little on the historical/social context I'm missing here. It referenced it briefly in the article, but I thought that the religious violence was limited to Ireland mainly.
Or is it just a case of "American's say things every day that people in the UK would be put in prison for?"
And I was referring to the judges verdict as a political statement, not the anti-Catholic sentiment.

Wait... Why would he go to prison for that? Am I missing something important? It does seem like a political statement more than anything.
@Teary: No.
I LOVE SEXY SAX MAN. That is all.
apparently our landlord is coming over tomorrow for to "inspect for cleanliness".
.
We've had them come out randomly before (with notice, of course), but the fact that they literally said "for cleanliness" kind of pushes my buttons a little bit. Oh well... Only one thing to do...

Apparently our landlord is coming over tomorrow for to "inspect for cleanliness". There's nothing I can really do, but is that common practice? WTF?
but when they end like that three times....it's strike three... or maybe it was strike #3,333,333.......but it is sad and painful for us both i know.....a person must be in a very very bad place to act like that in front a man you have loved and been intimate with for 15 years....and at that moment i am satan in front of her....a begging pleading attempting to reason satan...but still satan to her and her friends.....but this nice woman needs satan out of her life now....oompa.
i am not a bad person...i am not satan...i asked her why she thought i had tried so hard....told her that if she was in a burning building just how hard would she think i would try to get her out??
she did not like that analogy either...so i have started the painful process...the building is going to burn to the ground now....and i will never put her through that fingers in ears thing again.... and i will be fair and reasonable....and pay her the alimony and give her half....i could so be a satan to her in divorce....but i won't!...i can at least prove to them all that i am decent man...and not mentally diseased or satan.....and ahhhhh i feel good about that....plus both my boys are free now...
(((((oompa))))))
there was quite a debate on another post about the increase/decrease throughout the wt history surrounding 1975 and subsequent time periods when ther have been major adjustments in doctrine.
it was said that the stasticis from 1965-1985 do not reflect a massive defection, despite the failure of the wt's prophecy for the end of the wicked system of things by 1975. .
i see the overlapping generation as another potention issue to cause fallout.
Did someone say S. E. X.?
