They think they know because they think mother knows.
The blind leading the blind...
i never was a jw.
i was brought up in a fairly fundie sect (pb) and have been for many years an interested atheist.
i am an admirer of the work of bart ehrman (and recommend his blog).. from time to time, jws call at my door and invite me to partake in a 'bible study'.
They think they know because they think mother knows.
The blind leading the blind...
when i was growing up, the worst thing a jw could do was be 'blasphemous against the holy spirit'.
that was certain to be instant death in the eyes of the wt.
now, as i understand it, apostacy is the worst thing you can do.
If the Watchtower correctly defined and explained apostasy and blasphemy they would be guilty of both.
Apostasy: spiritual unfaithfulness
Blasphemy: ascribing the Holy Spirit's work and testimony to the forces of darkness
i think this may be a bigger issue for the society than we realise.. when you consider that witnesses have now had well over a year of regularly seeing their 'channel to god' with their own eyes, what do you think they're thinking?.
i'm going to put this as respectfully as i can; these men are clearly a bunch of utter clowns who are laughably inadequate to present a tv show, but also, they are now ridiculously discredited due to the absolute shite that they've spoken in these laughable productions.. consider things from a jw's perspective; tony morris, stephen lett & geoffrey jackson are 'the channel' that makes their religion 'special'.
these men are the channel god is using to lead his people in the modern day.
If and when I choose to see the emperor's blatant and odious nakedness, militant ignorance, and malignant self-righteousness I can...
i have been out now for 6 years but lately i have been giving some thought to da.
i just kind of feel that chapter in my life is still open and for some reason i feel like da'ing might close that chapter but i'm not entirely sure.
im not df either, when i left i basically faded and disappeared.
It was the right thing for our family, and allowed us to be open about our beliefs and choices without looking over our shoulders all the time.
The freedom to take a book out from the library without fear of assassination by a Judging Committee is fundamental and priceless to us.
In rejecting the Watchtower we were also rejecting their apostasy (spiritual unfaithfulness).
jehovah's witnesses accept jesus as christ, the son of god.
they try, in their own way, to live by his teachings and imitate him.
they pray, read the bible and meet together regularly for worship.. i won't minimise any of the harm and damage they cause but for the life of me, i can't see how anyone can credibly deny that they are christians.. why do so many former jws have a problem with this?
If being a Christian means belonging to a religious group that claim to follow Jesus, but in reality follow men instead, then the JWs are Christian as far as I can tell.
However if a Christian is someone who follows Jesus, instead of a religious group, then the JWs are assuredly not Christian as far as I can tell.
so i ask because of all the books, mags and testimonies that the wts promotes.
not only the wts, but many other christians attempt to speak about the bible with authority.
how do we measure who is an authority if we don't know that much?.
In my experience God speaks directly to each of all the time.
We hear or experience this as an inner knowing.
The best tool or framework for tuning in it seems is the liberating gospel of grace.
The best tool or framework for tuning out it seems is religion (Matt 23 esp v15).
hello all.... i am new here so i figured i'd make a quick post introducing myself and giving a brief intro as to who i am and what i'm here for... as well as to hopefully meet others.. so, i made a profile and in it i gave a pretty detailed explanation as to my intent here and exactly why i decided to participate in the boards.
in case you don't read it, i'll give a brief summary.
the name is robert.
Hello Robert
What are your thoughts on the 5 solas?
jehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.
i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.
.....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.
In my 44 years as a third generation born-in not a single Christian ever shared the liberating gospel of grace with me, when knocking at their doors.
All they had to do was ask a simple question.
What a pity no one had the ability or courage to ask a simple question...
hello friends,.
after receiving a letter at my home calling me for a "judicial audience" after having quit 5 years ago the jw, i decided to go to the police and talk about the policy within jw.org: social abuse, judicial threats and in my case sexual abuses.. a national newspaper in spain www.elperiodico.es has decided to give visibility to this situation.
please find the first link:.
Well done Miguel for getting the "bad news" aka TTATT out there in Spanish which I recently learnt has the second most native speakers of all languages, beating English.
would you agree:.
there are three main paths in life?.
secular, religious or spiritual?.
@a watcher
Which path have you chosen and why do you prefer it to the other two?
