Which Online Discussion Archetype Are You?
by Simon intaken from codinghorror blog, funny but insightful as well:.
if you've participated in usenet, mailing lists, or web forum discussions for any length of time, you're probably familiar with godwin's law:.
as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving nazis or hitler approaches 1.. .

Is shunning a common religious punishment for reporting sexual abuse (or other crimes)?
by Fernando inin other words, is it true that the watchtower is just like other religions when it comes to cover-ups?.
from personal experience (with incest and doctrinal/financial fraud) in the watchtower i would say so.. especially when i compare stories like the one i read today:.
"its impossible to know how many women have been raped by jewish men.

I was very surprised a few months ago when reading how open and public a senior member of the Catholic Church was about child abuse and the root causes as he sees them (one of which is clericalism, aka the two class system of believers and the associated multi-tiered hierarchy of power). -

by Simon inwell, the switchover happened - there were a couple of things i had to fix which meant the posting was disabled for longer than i planned but it's now enabled and some people have already posted.. if you have any questions about the new format or suggestions on how to improve it, please post them here.. if you are having trouble signing in or posting then you'll need to email me instead.. many thanks to everyone for their patience during the changeover !.

Thank you for all the hard work and many hours Simon.
I wonder if a JWN to JWC landing page might make the changeover less bewildering to those folk who did not get a heads-up?
For a while I though JWN was down.
Then I thought maybe gone.
Then I looked around on JWC and discovered some posts that clarified.
I fear for those of this great community who are not internet savvy or not technically inclined.
We'd hate to lose a few dear "sheep"...

UNDERSTANDING WHY THE ORGANIZATION is a false idol and a BLASPHEMY
by Terry indo we understand these three words: worship, idolatry, and blasphemy?.
most christians have a vague notion of worship, idolatry, and blasphemy already, but.
a clear definition is necessary.. we must take care to differentiate, however.. how the words appear in original language and how they are defined today might be at odds.. ____________________.

Terry, you make a very compelling and informed case.
My verdict is "guilty as charged".
For me religion routinely co-opts and subverts terminology to suit a corrupt agenda.
So I am really fascinated by your depth of insight when it comes to uncovering and restoring correct meaning.
Thank you for sharing these eye opening comments especially on blasphemy.
I am saving this OP to re-read.
Best wishes.

Hey sparrowdown.
I still remember vividly one of your first posts in which you so aptly described the nature and origin of Watchtower corruption (Enter the Power Couple, assume the position).

Sorry to hear about how you were treated Jay Elle.
More proof that they are not who they claim to be.
Neither do they have the spiritual qualification they claim.
The very opposite is in evidence.
Best wishes for you and yours for the future.

In other words, is it true that the Watchtower is just like other religions when it comes to cover-ups?
From personal experience (with incest and doctrinal/financial fraud) in the Watchtower I would say so.
Especially when I compare stories like the one I read today:
"It’s impossible to know how many women have been raped by Jewish men. But too many women have anecdotes about a friend who was assaulted and never spoke up because “he’s such a great guy; no one would believe me.” Just look at what happened to some of the children who dared to publicly say that they were molested by rabbis or other trusted individuals in the ultra-Orthodox community — they were shunned by the communities who claimed to care about them."

Maybe this graph, with a website attribution below:
That is 54 years of 10 hours per month for one single baptism in 2013.
Double that if half the growth is organic (children of JW parents).
