around here in fundiedubland, it was considered practice for political elections.

we were not allowed to do it at all.. i had to get a parental note stating i wasn't allowed to participate.. watchtower society: sucking the normal out of childhood since 1881.tm.

No,I wasn't allowed. In the fourth grade,the class even nominated me for secretary. And I even won the the vote,but my mother called the teacher the next day,and so I was only secretary for a day.

So,many things came up in school that caused me great stress as a Witness. In kindergarten,I couldn't handle the stress and threw up every other day.

But,the only thing I wish I would have participated in was band. I just didn't think I could,because all the band concerts were either holiday themes or patriotic.

But,then,a younger group of Witness students still were able to receive lessons from the music teacher.

How do I help my best friend who just told me he is gay?

a little background for you.... my best friend (a 44 year old baptised jw with a wife & 2 preteen boys) told me a few days ago that he is gay.

to me, not a big deal as i am also.

but, he is so tormented by this with regard to his relationship with god.

He needs professional counseling. This is a complicated situation,and he needs to proceed with caution. And I feel,it would be the best way for him to figure everything out.

i'm still a semi member of the kh but not at all active and have major doubts when i started reading all kinds of opposing literature.

talked to elders about this and also my father but my father but he still believes it's the "truth".

anyways jist of this story is i gave my father a copy of "crisis of conscience".

has anybody here read lord of the flies.the book is by william golding and he takes during a world war and it involves 12 boys lost on an island.anybody i like the book because it describes very well human nature at it's worst.

that deep down we are savage humans bent on killing and destruction.

the book also made me think that children are not as innocent as we make them out to be.people can do evil to one another if law and order did not exist..

I read it in ninth grade. I understand the symbolism,but as far as literature goes,it was not my favorite.

Can you be appointed as an Elder while attending college?

what is the current stance on this issue?

i've heard of a lot of ms who were going to university, and yet i've never heard of that being the case for elders.

someone on this board also mentioned recently that they knew of man who was denied appointment as an elder despite otherwise excellent qualifications because he was a college student.

I just had this discussion with my brother who is an elder. And I would say "no"from what I got with his answer. They instructed the brothers,on how could they counsel against going to college, if they themselves or their children were attending college.

They have become more dogmatic on this issue,if it's possible.

It doesn't make sense at all. There are some who join the work force full-time after high school. What is the difference? They are around so-called,"worldly" influences too.

They have no real scriptural backing for this.

We had a circuit overseer who actually gave a talk about demons having sex with people,how twisted is that. I was sixteen at the time,and it freaked me out,gave me nightmares.

And I also heard of others trying to destroy the ouija board. When I was at school,I'd hear kids talking about using an ouija board.

I heard of one Witness who claimed to be walking through the toy department and one board fell right in front of them in the store,lol.

But,growing up,I heard so many demon stories,it was big in the 80's with the Witnesses. It feaked me out,and I still don't want to mess with anything of the sort,real or imagined. If it's fake,why bother,if it's real,best not to bother.
