ANOTHER GILEAD STUDENT

i've been reading this forum a for some time now.

since i find myself on a crossroad i decided to start participating.

i was at gilead in 1980 and remember standing in de elevator alone with ray franz, how just gave us a lecture.

with april's rediculous generation renewal, the hyped 2012, then the 100th aniversary of 1914 two years later, the continued increase and spread of internet use, the age of the gb, and the lackluster of the rank n file, i give it 8-10 years before the whole show collapses.. .

Since they are a cult they have assured a long life, almost everlasting no matter how many years or centuries they need to move their prophecies forward, there will be always new light to explain the changes and there will always be the ban on education and research, so theres no hope there. Since they are also a religion they also have assured demand. People need to believe in something. Also theres alot of poverty on the world so that gives them more customers to catch.

However we have the internet now. And the generations are changing more than what we were used to. If this generation were to suddenly die the new generation for sure wouldnt continue the Cult. Internet access is now available in schools. Knowledge is more accessible to everyone. If a wealthy person would invest money to advertise questions or fact that wouldnt attack them but make them think, that would lead more people to do their own research and the more websites like this and books and videos there are then more and more people will drop or even avoid joining in. So tons of bad publicity will definetly help. The more bad publicity the better, the more access to information the better.

I think at least one full generation 70-100 years they will not be as strong as they are now. I think that probably in 150 years they wont exist. Wishfull thinking.

It would be great to have a prediction by someone who studies religion and sociology.

The upside of atheism

i realize whether you believe in god or the non-existence of god it has to be taken on faith since both positions are unknowable and unprovable.

however, i can understand faith in god as basically a hope for something better.

i can also understand agnosticism; admitting it's unknowable but still leaving the door open (perhaps the only intellectually honest option).

The upside of being an atheist is the same as the upside of not believing in santa claus. I am really glad I dont believe in him cuz at least I dont know a lie. I am certain of not beliving a lie and that feels better than not knowing if the lie is true or even believing the lie is true.

Who do you pray when you feel the need to pray if you dont believe in God?

sometimes when we face difficult situations i feel the need to pray to god for help, and i know that plenty of times the sole act of praying makes you feel hope and have a better outcome of the situation.

you can call it suggestive or that you prepare a positive scenario by using faith.

the outcome is that regardless if there is someone who listens or not to your prayers oftentimes you feel better afterwards and have more positive attitude.. the problem is that i dont believe in god anymore.

cantleave: How about desperation? It can also lead you to look for help. And sometimes it is after thinking of a solution and not being able to find the answer that desperation kicks in.
