  Straightshooter, I was born and raised in Madrid. But it was really cold today too! The northern half of Spain is also full of snow. Although it's true, the sunshine was shining on it... It will soon melt.

  PSacramento, thank you so much for sending the photo! Your family is beautiful, and I loved the loving words you used to refer to them. Now I'll have your picture in my mind every time I read one of your posts.

  Awildflower, I've also checked your first posts... You are an excellent writer. Your story is fascinating. And... tears are still rolling down my face after I read your post "I want to thank my children"... I have no words to describe what I felt. You so made me think of my own kids (10 and 8). Just beautiful...

  I love it when your avatar is a real picture of you. I look at it with interest and my heart warms up. As for those of you whose avatar is just anything else, I try to imagine you (Minimus, Snowbird, JWoods, Cantleave, Tjlibre, Nugget, Outlaw, PSacramento, Wobble, Undercover, MrFlipper, and many, many others... -I stop for lack of space, not for lack of affection-). I'd love to know what all of you look like, I feel so close to most of you! As for me, I've been wanting to change mine for my real face, but I've tried and it doesn't work. I've also tried to post a photo, but I'm new to technology and can't find the way either.

  You are a part of my life, and I want you to know I think of you often in my daily life and I wish you all the very best.

  Sunk Costs

  it is interesting that many who do not believe any more or others with good thinking abilities choose to remain a witness.

  i believe that the sunk costs are the reason... i will explain more below.

  i also think this is why maybe even the governing body or other decision-makers at bethel are so reluctant to own up to real truth.

  Great advice, Zarco. How interesting! I had never thought about the "sunk costs", but now that you bring it to my attention, I realize I totally brushed them off when I awakened. I didn 't stop for even one second to think about the investment (after 45 years in!). Once I "saw the light", I immediately made my decision and implemented it without ever looking back. Your words may help many still in to consider to what extent that may be holding them back.

  Why Do Some Elders Go After "Faded Ones" While Others Leave Us Alone?

  then i read of how some are always getting calls and visits.

  No idea, Minimus. I passed from being 100% active in June to NOTHING, and nobody has bothered me. The few I've met have been extremely nice to me (I loved them lots when I left -still do- and I know it was reciprocal). Just this morning I stopped at a zebra-crossing to let a gentleman go past and it turned out to be one of my best friends, a MS in my congregation. He was SO happy to see me! But nobody has dared asked a question. Two elders come to my house from time to time for a beer after their tennis-match with my husband (who has never been a witness) and their mouth hasn't opened yet to question me. They talk to me happily as if nothing was the matter, exactly as they did before. I must say that, although fully involved in the activities of the congregation, I've always minded my own business and I've therefore gained the respect of my brothers. Also, in my phone call to the presiding elder in June (one of the tennis players), when I told him I wouldn't be coming to meetings any more, I insisted I didn't want ANYBODY to try to find out any of the reasons, because I wouldn't say a word. It seems to have worked so far...

  The Day I had an Epiphany

  my eyes opened in more ways than one.

  as i lay in bed that sunday morning, i knew i was never again going to rise hurriedly to get myself and the kids dressed and fed for field service.

  i was actually feeling relieved and wanted to just turn over and go back to sleep, certain and content in my decision.. the day before, i had stood at the end of the block, after working a territory filled with barking dogs and people sleeping in after a hard days work week, and thinking, "never again".

  around three weeks ago, one of you (i think it was bohm) posted a link with a superbly written thesis attempting to prove yahweh as depicted in the old testament doesn't exist.

  i'm nearly through with it (it's thick and parts of it are beyond my understanding, but it's fascinating).

  Dear PSacramento, I think you are very sensible praying for strength rather than for a solution. I think that's pretty much what I've been doing lately. My point is He may not even have the power to give us that strength. I'm a bit jealous of you for not expecting omnipotence or eternity from God. To me that thought is something new, since I've always assumed God possessed both for the simple fact of being God. It would take me a little while to assimilate it. For the moment it's just, as I said, one more possibility.
