New sex offender in my hall

just found out that there is a sex offender in my hall.

the "brother" that i was with said " the brothers will make sure that he is not put with any kids in service".

wtf !!!!

I appreciated the sister who came forward risking herself to tell me and my husband about the sex offender in our congregation. The elders told her the same thing that SHE could be disfellowshipped for slander or causing divisions.

Anyway, I went and told several other families. One wierdo mother didn't care one bit even though she had two young boys. She was a WT drone anyway. But when I called another sister with a little girl she totally gasped. She got very histerical and told me that the child molester spent the night at their home just the previous night. Apparently he told the husband he needed a place to stay because he was being abused in his apt complex by a few young men who did not like JW's, the guy was elderly so the brother and sister felt bad and let him stay the night. The molestor tells them he will speak with the elders the next day to see if they can help. Well when I called she knew he purposely thought up a story to get into their home and around their child.

So, was any action taken against this man? NO. Nothing at all. The elders basically blamed the couple for letting the guy stay in their home saying they should have been more careful because the world is filled with child molestors after all and that is why the society prints articles in their publications so the "friends" can be warned.

That is when I told my husband I would not allow my kids to step foot in that kh again! I just stopped attending. They call themselves "friends" but what kind of friend would not warn you of a threat to your child? Also, the elders claim to be appointed by God's holy spirit and yet they cannot measure out even close to the justice a so called "worldly" person would. Society has laws more just then that of this organization that claims to have God's approval.

Does anyone else think that Just the fact that they have to have "studies" about being nice to people and offering kind words once in a while shows them up for their true ugly spirit they have most of the time?

Why aren't they being nice ALL the time anyway and displaying Christ's love for others? Peace, Lilly

i just would like to open a little debate here on retirement and jws.

my mother, who is the breadwinner of the family, (dad's quite pathetic) is socking away money like mad for retirement.

i can't blame her, since i know she'll need it, but she's convinced that the end is so near.

I would just leave it alone. If you say something she may feel she is not trusting in Jehovah enough and to be a better example to you, may stop putting away money. And that would be terrible. You know how much JW's want to look faithful in peoples eyes trying to "win them over" to God?

Be happy she is saving because the WT does not care one iota for their elderly members. Unlike Christendoms other churches they will not provide food, shelter or any other aide to your mom in her old age if she was in need. If I were you, I would encourage her to save as much as she can "just in case".

I bought the New International Version (NIV) when I was newly out. That was 7 years ago I still love this edition. Even though since then, I bought a few more bibles for comparison, the NIV is my every day bible. I would stay clear of King James unless you have a lot of experience with old world english. It will be a very difficult translation. Lilly

I was not going to answer any more posts on this thread but feel compelled to answer you because of the way you are asking.

First, I would like to clear up that I am not saying at all that you or anyone else Must believe the miracles written in the gospel. I think I was quite clear that it is a faith book and you do not have to believe in it. It is your personal choice to believe what you choose. What I said was that believers trust that these accounts are true and that trust is based on our own personal faith.

Secondly, I cannot give you faith in something you do not believe and I cannot give you any of the "proof" you will need in order to believe in miracles. Even if someone can show you a miracle and you see it with your own eyes, you may still not believe it. This was the case in Jesus day even when he performed miracles and they were witnessed. The majority of people did not follow him. For a non believer, there simply is not enough proof in this world to convince you.

As far as Paul, well there is ample proof in the bible to show that he did indeed believe in the same Jesus as the gospel writers and his teachings were in harmony with those of Jesus. You need to remember that Paul was not a believer when Christ was alive on earth and did not "walk with" Jesus like the gospel writers. He was NOT an eye witness to any healings or miracles of Jesus and so it is not surprising that he did not write about them. But he did write about his supernatural conversion and how Christ called him to be his vessel to reach the gentile people. Actually to Paul this supernatural act was a miracle of Christ. It humbled Paul and forever changed him and he spent the rest of his life teaching about Jesus and preaching to the Gentiles. He in fact fulfilled his commission, he himself says Christ gave him, which was to make Christ's name great among the gentiles.

The gospel accounts were written by Jesus' inner circle of followers who personally knew him during the time he was on earth, this does not include Paul. Paul mainly wrote letters to congregations to either encourage them for work well done or admonish them for false teachings. He had a totally different function in the early church then the gospel writers. And had a different perspective on Christ. However, nowhere does he go against any teachings in the gospel. His writings are in full harmony with the rest of the bible, in particular Jesus' teachings.

Here are a few examples;

Jesus said to "not be anxious over our life and what we are to eat, drink or put on" Matthew 6:25

Paul said "not be anxious over anything, but in prayer and supplication, let your requests be known to God" Phillipians 4:6

Jesus said " I am the way, and the truth, and the life, noone comes to the father except thru me" John 14:6

Paul said "There is one mediator between God and Men, a man Christ Jesus" 1Timothy 2:5

Jesus said to "do not commit adultery or murder or steal and love our nieghbors as ourselves" Matthew 19:18

Paul said "do not murder, do not steal, do not covet and love your niegbors as yourself" Romans 13:8-10

Jesus said "the son of man will be delivered up to men, he will be killed and raised on the third day" Matthew 17:22-23

Paul said " I delivered to you what I recieved that Christ died for our sins, was buried and raised to life on the third day, according to the scriptures" 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

It does not matter if the elders are watching these guys or not. Here in the U.S. most states have laws stating that child sex offenders cannot come into contact with any children. If the guy is allowed to go door to door, whether or not he has a chaperone does not matter, he is breaking the law as many homes have young kids.

The reason they get away with this is more people do not call and turn these guys in. I am sure the community would not want a child sex offender knocking at their doors.

I would take photos of him doing this, and mail them along with a copy of his record to the local paper and police station. You can turn him in anonymously you know. The elders may suspect you but if they cannot prove it is you, what can they do to you. Lilly

for those questioning the miracles of Jesus;

The evidence of the miracles IS the written record of it in the gospel accounts. It was written down so that future generations of believers may have their faith in Christ strengthend. There is no physical or visual proof anyone can give you. But honestly, would it matter? Maybe, or maybe not. Even the Bible says that many who did literally SEE the miracles of Jesus did not believe. Belief in anything is a personal thing.

This is why I stand by my statement that the bible, in particular the gospel accounts, should not be any concern for those who do not believe in it. It is simply a faith book.

Thank you for your response. I do not know if you noted the statement in one of my posts about Josephus which was "if you accept this writing to be true" but the reason I said that is that I am fully aware that there is a controversy about whether or not what is written in the book of Josephus about Jesus really was written by him or by a christian interloper at a later time.

I've read a lot on this subject and have found that the evidence is probably stronger that while Josephus did give a very generic account of a man named Jesus living during that time in history, someone else added more details later on about Jesus being the Christ. I came to this conclusion by reading lots of commentaries about this book as well as looking at evidence provided by the earliest copies of manuscripts of Josephus' writings.

Believe me my friend, I take nothing at face value any more and have no problem looking at evidence that goes contrary to my belief. If I do not do this, how can I learn to defend my beliefs with non believers? The evidence has not swayed me in any way because part of belief in Christ is based upon Faith and not how much was written about him, or how many people believe the testimony of him. It is simply a personal decision I have made in my life, after wieghing the evidence, to accept Jesus as the Christ.

The fact that non believers either do not have the same belief in Jesus existance or do not give Jesus the same authority or esteem in their lives than that of being a mortal man is not surprising at all to me. Why would they anyway? Jesus means as much to them as Budha means to me which is nothing at all.

But I am not going around trying to disprove Budha and wonder why so many try to disprove Jesus? The NT is a collection of letters written by and for people of a certain faith belief and WE (who belong to that faith) have to determine how much wieght to give it in our lives. It really should not concern non believers in any way unless of course you have nothing better to do with your time then try to dismantle other peoples belief? I just do not get it. Life is too short to spend time argueing about a book you do not believe in anyway.

anyway, they went on and on nonstop about how we should all be grateful and how we are a bunch of spoiled brats and how it personally offends god if we are not grateful.

They sound negative to me.

I personally enjoy the christian radio programs put out by Plain Truth Ministries. You can listen anytime online. Here is the link www.ptm.org Just click on radio and then click on the program you want to listen to. They have a new 30 minute program on a different topic everyday. And you can download mp3s for free.

Also on Sundays, if you click the link for "worship online" you can hear a 30 minute sermon. They even have a hymm book so you can sing a song before the sermon. It is an online church, non denominational. I've been enjoying this for a while now as I work overnights on Saturday and am too tired to go to a physical church building on sunday mornings. So when I get up around noon, my husband and I listen to the program together.

I think you may enjoy it becuase they do not push their views on you and are not negative at all. The point of all thier programs is to upbuild people in the faith not remind them how sinful or unworthy they are. Peace, Lilly
