This has been a good exchange of thought, no faith intended. Existentialism aside, a good whack at co-adhesion has surfaced.

Atheist with crisis of conscience. Please help.
by parakeet ini'm an atheist having a serious crisis of conscience.
please help.. i've read many, many posts that talk about atheism as a faith as distinct as any other faith.
there has also been much made of the atheist lifestyle.. my dilemma -- i don't know what the atheistic faith entails.

After being indoctrinated by the borg and having doubt about a lot that is taught I took to study to try to understand what was being taught. I finally gave it up and walked because all that study confirmed my doubt about the so called truth. When I discovered this place and read so many posts the echoed my thoughts I was hooked. There is every sort here, scholar to athiest, believers and haters, the thing that makes this place special is that there is open discussion and opinion without much damnation. Whilst I don't post often I do read it all with great interest.

A Feckless Thug
by AllTimeJeff injust a few words on this rather extraordinary scene from "the west wing".
the video below shows the president, jed bartlett, after losing his secretary tragically, who has known jed since high school.
the entire episode centers on a crossroads as the fictional president is going through a lot of personal turmoil while losing someone he has loved and known for 40 years.

I think this was more of a WTF from Jed than anything else. Losing someone you love is one of the most cold slaps in the face that humans have to bear. The context of this story is about how little control we have of so many circumstances in our lives, even the most powerful person in the world cannot have it their way. Using "feckless thug" as a term in this scene had to be a brilliant insight for the writer, where else could such a term be used with so much impact than in a church to god by the president. Really skillfull writing.

Beating Gods Rotted, Dead Horses Corpse
by Nephilim inbeating gods rotted, dead horses corpse .
at erin's party on friday, myke "bertrand russel" chilian came bounding up to me with this disappointed smirk on his face and "confronted" me about this rumor he'd just heard that i believe in god.. .
nobody hears me when i explain this, i feel like i'm talking into a paper bag: the phrase "believe in god" is beneath me, that's how awesome i am.

There is nothing like individual thought to to push thesis and anti-thesis to the brink of new knowledge.

I do appreciate your having this discussion with me. I have read the bible through several times but I do not remember specfic locations of text. Someone said " there is no man who does not sin". Also that "through one man sin came into the world and death through sin" and "for as in Adam all die so as in the Christ all will be made alive". These things merit the question of who could live through the second resurrection vs the plain comment that all shall live. This becomes very confusing. Is there a clear presentation of what really is to occur?

Thank you AGuest for the explaination. May I now ask about the 144,000? In your reply to bobid you state that the first resurrection will be those in union with Christ, is that only 144,000 that will live again for a thousand years? Then the rest of the dead when they are ressurected after the thousand years are judged and those not in the book are then killed again in the lake of fire? I am trying to make sense of what you say.

So.....do you or don't you want them to come after you?
by Quillsky ini've noticed an interesting dichotomy in these discussions.
as a starting point, i understand that we are all different --- there is no "we" here except that we have all been, or been involved with, jw's.
but this is interesting..... some people complain about being "hounded" by elders and shepherding calls and previous "friends" and so on.

Withih the context of the question asked, the principle of "love your enemies" comes into play. While the guilt feelings for leaving are being discarded by your own effort and the knowledge that the organization is wrong and very flawed, it seems to me that knocking the people who are still in is a waste of emotion. Each one has the right to come or go as they see fit. Once your decision to leave is made, it is useless for them to try to change your mund.

Why do people say the god of the bible is Omnisciencent?
by Elsewhere ingen 3:8,9 then the man and his wife heard the sound of the lord god as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the lord god among the trees of the garden.
but the lord god called to the man, "where are you?".
in this passage in the bible the humans hid from the god and the god was left wondering around yelling: "where are you?"..

Is not the overriding factor what he said himself " I will be as I will be" Whether he knows all or chooses not to know his actions will be as he wants, those that were able to change his mind by reasoning were indeed fortunate. How he chooses is not in the scope of mans job description.
