I don't really care for VD either, but it is the point that I can't do it because someone says I can't, and it doesn't matter what I think.

Think about it,

well, I thought about it...sorry just had to..... my problem is my wife, she doesn't agree...with us.... and would rather I not question anything, so that is the cause of my frustration. I am trying to to right my myself and my son, but I also have to meet somewhere in the middle with my wife.

i know we have all talked about the fact that holidays today don't mean what they did in the ancient past.

i don't like the word pagan, becuase of all the negative conatations associated with it.

but with something as simple as valentine's day; that the history beyond the known facts that a christian known as valentine was martyed on feb 14th, why is there so much disdaine for it?

Thanks, I missed that post when it was new, still reading all the responses now.

Regarding Valentines day, I always got the exceuse that it was from a pagan holiday. well now learning that pagan doesn't mean the the WTS says it means changes things for me. There are only so many days in a year, I would be suprised if some traditions didn't morph and get picked up by others (christians).

The cool thing is I got my wife to go to a co-workers birthday party with me. She seemed suprisingly comfortable. Maybe because nobody died?????

how so they are tormented from the humiliating exposure by the messages that these prophets(gb/fbs/jw/wbts) proclaim.this proclamation by the gb/jw is what christendom will experience(a 2nd death).

ok smart ....how will you torment someone for ever and ever with your message(ecc9:5)?.

i was reading acts 20 the other day and noted how it makes a clear case against the annual "memorial" as instructed by the wt.. acts 20

paul in macedonia and greece6 but we sailed away from philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and in five days we came to them at troas, where we stayed for seven days.. eutychus raised from the dead7 on the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.. .

I like what you say here especially 1 cor 17.

I also want to point out that Jesus said "keep doing this", where did he say that it must be done that same DAY yearly, and that it must be after sundown wherever you live? I got such a laugh out out watching someone run out side to make sure the sun had actually set. If they took it as seriously as they make it out to seem, then it would be after sundown in Jeresualm, no?

I mentioned this to my wife last year, becuase they had so much trouble fitting all the congreations into a building that had enough room.

They make such a point about the jewish days being sundown to sundown, why not have another meeting the next day before sundown?

If you have ever been in a large town, finding room for everyone is a big challange.

My wife and I almost had an arguement, becase I don't what my son sitting in the library like I did, just becuse the kids are passing around cards.

but does this not really get back to the matter or mind and life style control?

Birthdays, are really what opened my mind up. I was talking with a coworker one day, saying that we dont; do birthdays, and he cornered me on there being no biblical backing for that belife, that was the thing that shook me up, wait these aren't my beliefs, they are what I was told to belive.

my mum ruled house with iron fist (whole story just there) we were the perfect jw family, never missed fs or meetings all baptised at magic age of 14, all pioneered.

My mother sent me this crap. I wrote a reply back about how manipulitive it was. I don't have a copy of my reply but this was her response. I told her she should call the information desk to find out if it was real, though I don't expect her to.

You are right about the e-mail, it did sound like a scare tactic. I got counseled from several people on the proof of that e-mail. This was more of the sisters feelings on the talk, and not the talk itself. I apologize for sending it out, please forgive me.

I figure if I can get her to apologize for sending me something that was intended to be "upbuilding" then maybe I have made some progress with her.
