Slyvia, I can see most of that stuff from my house.
Are you just looking around that room and then posting what you see?

let's talk about prophecy!
for the purposes of this discussion it doesn't matter if it is "bible-based(tm)" prophecy or koran-based prophecy or any other type of prophecy as long it is to be assumed the prophecy comes from or was divinely inspired by god.. the first big question for prophecy.
the first question i have is one that no one seems to bother to ask whenever the subject of prophecy arises.:.
farkel, that was still a great post you wrote. I didn't mean to detract from it.

Farkel, you did say that, i did.
You did say:
Many of the prophecies in the Bible were worthless to the people living at the time they were written, since they were not to be "fulfilled" for hundreds or thousands of years later. Since the people living when they were written didn't see any fulfillment, they would either end up being skeptical of the propheices and the "God" who made them, or else they would make up shit about the prophecies being fulfilled in their day, or worse, die believing but also frustrated that nothing happened in their lifetimes. Whatever the reason, it doesn't look good for God and therefore the idea of "prophecy" defeats the very purpose it was created for.
This is what i believe that the WTS does, take somehting that has already happened, and apply prophecy "X" to it long after the date had past.

Good write up Farkel, It goes to show that phrophecy is easily fullfilled in hindsight.
Now that I am allowing myself to read other therories there is one that has interested me.
It is called Preterism. See this link for more info.
But the basis is that all prophecy was fullfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem or with the first century christians.
Really when you have so any symbols and signs and vague references to things, you can make it mean anything you want.

how many of the witness kids "and adults" get into trouble right within the congregation.
just recently talked to an old friend still in whose witness son in law left his daughter for another and subsequently his daughter got hooked up with that ladys husband.
Ziddina- Heh... I have a dirty mind... I was wondering; do you suppose that the average girl raised in a strict, all-girl Catholic school is any better equipped to handle the 'outside world' than a JW girl pressured into temporary pioneering during her summer vacations, and being baptised at 12 - 16 years old???
I think the CATHOLIC girls would still be better equipped - I think there would be a 'camaraderie' amongst the 'inmates', which would allow information - illicitly gained, perhaps, but information about the REAL world - to be passed among the girls...
Zid, I don't think that a strict Catholic girl is any better equpped physcially or emotionally balanced, but, I think that guilt may be less of a factor and that can lessen the chance of irrational behavior. i think that kids these days ave better access to information, no matter who they are. Hopefully from their parents. I feel worse for the JW kids that are homeschooled and even the ones (like me) who were allowed NO friends in school.
hi all, i am new to the forum and recently left the witnesses.
i was excited to see this site and enjoyed reading a lot of the posts.
it is nice to read so many of the same thoughts and feelings that i have had over the years.
Welcome to the board,
If you want some immediate reading use the search function, this board has existed for many years, and I think almost every question I have thought of, I could find disscussed at some point in time.
Example here:
with me it never actually was the case.all i remember and still hear is make sure you stay with jehovah....sometimes you just get tired of the same terd getting shoved down your throat..
I wasn't forced into babtisim early, but I was forced to go to the meetings or be kicked out of the house.
As far as choosing a religion, do you forget the "Mankinds search for God" book. That was all you had to make a choice about other religions/faiths/possibilities.
Just as HearOfABoy says, it is the only option if you wanted to keep your family or the only social group you have ever known.

I think this is also a product of an abstinence only aducation, doesn't matter if it is JWs or Catholics the results are the same, kids who have no concept of protecting themselves.
Also with some of the over protectiveness I have personal seen ,many of these kids are like overwound springs, with no self control when they get in a position that requies them to think something through.

This works for me.
i know about roku, but currently don't think it any better than the laptop i have connected to my television to stream netflix.. i have considered a media-pc with remote or perhaps a remote keyboard and mouse.
i like the idea of the tv subbing as an extra pc on occasion - plus i would like to be able to stream other programs besides just netflix [like fancast or national geo or history or some news clips].. any suggestions beyond or in addition?.
thank you in advance.
