one quote:
So why wasn’t I dating Mormon men? In a nutshell, the pool is small, and people marry young, for obvious reasons. The leftovers were left over: closeted gay men, porn-addicted virgins, along with the merely awkward, uncompromising and unlucky.

The Rapture is COMING!!!! SOON!!!!
by brotherdan inbiblical scholar's date for rapture: may 21, 2011theologyjanuary 01, 2010|by justin berton, chronicle staff writerformer civil engineer harold camping of oakland, who runs family radio, has studied the bible for almost 70 years.credit: lance iversen / the chronicleharold camping lets out a hearty chuckle when he considers the people who believe the world will end in 2012.. "that date has not one stitch of biblical authority," camping says from the oakland office where he runs family radio, an evangelical station that reaches listeners around the world.
"it's like a fairy tale.".
the real date for the end of times, he says, is in 2011.. the mayans and the recent hollywood movie "2012" have put the apocalypse in the popular mind this year, but camping has been at this business for a long time.

Huge WT parallel....
"We are now translated into 48 languages and have been transmitting into China on an AM station without getting jammed once," Camping said. "How can that happen without God's mercy?"
Somehow success equals Gods blessing.

There are currently 109 branches worldwide. The arrangement to have Branch Committees care for the spiritual needs of brothers living in various lands has been functioning since 1976. These committees follow the Scriptural direction and lead given by the Governing Body. Branch Committees have the responsibility to oversee the preaching of the good news in the territory assigned to the branch. The committee gives the necessary supervision to Christian congregations, missionaries, and pioneers. It also organizes the congregations into circuits and districts and makes recommendations to the Governing Body for the appointment of circuit and district overseers, Bethel family members, and students for Gilead School. Besides having general oversight of the service in the field, the Branch Committee cares for organizing the work at Bethel. There is no doubt that Jehovah’s rich blessing has been on this arrangement.

Question on Christmas Lights
by TD inin the jw world, is there a difference between christmas lights and chile lights?.
chile lights are the same damn idea, but they are used as a party decoration all year long.

She loves snowmen but laments that snowmen decorations are up only at Christmas time
We have a room decorated year round with snowman, and almost everyone has to make a wise crack about secretly celebrating christmas, probably because they really want to.
I have often wondered why I couldn't put up white lights. Some JWs go through great lengths to make the house more dreary at Christmas.
So when is Christmas time? I can have a snowman up on January 1st, but not December 31, how about November 25th?
This is rhetorical, I know the answer.
Sadly, a witness would never reason like this because they risk contradicting the slave.
And you know the answer too.
Too bad they take being "no part of the world" so seriously....or out of context, depending on your view.

Can You "Read" People?
by minimus inmisery wrote on a thread how those of us who were born into the jw religion were taught how to read people.
we learn how to look for their weaknesses, their joys, what seems to be troubling them, what their yard looks like, etc.. do you have this ability, in all honesty?
i am told that i have that ability and it freaks people out sometimes (in a good way).

I am with FF, I cannot. I don't think it is something you can learn.
Snowbird, do you think it is something you were born with or learned?

JWs Come Home...do they need to try this approach?
by maninthemiddle init looks like the catholics are trying to bring lost members home.
would this approach work with jws?
i can think of some it may work on, but not me or most.. is this more useful to those that simply don't attend anymore, or those that have converted?.

do they only count you if you are not inactive? Just because the congregation still has your records, you are not counted in the 7 mil, right?

I think you are saying of the about 7 mil claimed to be "publishers" there are many more who identify as JW?
That makes sense, I have met people who were disfellowshipped and still believed the doctrine, I have also met people who got reinstated just to be with family, they still identified and JWs. I think they could be included in the "potential" count.
