Education has always been a thorn in my side. I had problems in school from being "different" that greatly impacted my attention to work. I loved to read and always stayed ahead of the class. Of course, some of that was becuase of spending time in the library during many "fun" functions. My parents thought that high school was going to be a problem, that is how I landed in homeschool.
Skeeter..you know that is true. They will quickly accept a married couple if they have professional skills. They also sent notices out over the years they were looking for computer degrees. Do you think these people shared a room with three others.
Now I am not knocking blue collar jobs, I was just afraid of being stuck in laundry or kitchen forever and never having a chance to do anything different. I knew quite o few guys that spent their entire stay in the kitchen.

redsox...that is something near to me. I was homeschooled and never learned how to study properly, much less ever have a chance to get a "higher" education.
I was denied a proper education becuase of this cult, i'll be damned if my son follows the same path. If he doesn't want to go to college, then that will be his choice to make.
NV...it killed me that everyone wanted me to go to bethel but expected that I would have no education to go farther than laundry. No offence to anyone who worked in laundry, but it is about having the choice taken away from you.

Well said...NV
Here is the same paragraph from the Simplified version. As usuall they see it as a binary option.
4 Many men think that having money
and a job is more important than
studying the Bible and obeying what it
teaches. To get a university degree and
a well-paid job is more important to
them.

And this mag just keeps on going. In another article that is clearly trying to get more men into servent roles takes on reasons way they are not "reaching out".
4 Men often put material security ahead of
spiritual pursuits. Getting higher education
and securing a well-paying job are priorities
formany of them. According to their way of
thinking, the reward of making money is
more urgent and practical than any benefits
that might come from studying the Scriptures
and seeking a close relationship with
God. What the Bible teaches may appeal to
them, but “the anxieties of this system of
things and the deceptive power of riches”
choke whatever interest they may have.
(Mark 4:18, 19) Consider how Jesus helped
his disciples to adjust their priorities.

11 Vigilant Christians refrain from using the world to the full with regard to higher education.
Many people in this world consider higher education an indispensable stepping-stone to prestige and an affluent
life.
But we Christians live as temporary residents and pursue different goals. We avoid “minding lofty things.” (Rom. 12:16; Jer.45:5)
Since we are Jesus’ followers, we heed his warning: “Keep your eyes open and guard against every sort of covetousness, because evenwhen a person has an abundance his life does not result from the things he possesses.” (Luke 12:15)
Consequently, young Christians are encouraged to pursue spiritual goals, getting only as much education as is required to meet their basic needs while focusing on preparing themselves to serve Jehovah ‘with their whole heart, soul, strength, and mind.’ (Luke 10:27)
By doing so, they can become “rich toward God.”

from this forum post: http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/jehovahs-witness/TB299JUKHKGOHD45G
As a parent from the school who witnessed all events I can tell you it was not a bikini but old underwear and a cape! The boundary hedge belongs to the school and yesterday she was wearing a rather fetching witches hat with a shower cap on top! She is scaring the children and playing her music so loud that they cannot learn. Not a very godly thing to do in my opinion. I can also assure you that she is a JW as she tries to give out the Watchtower whilst dressed in this way. Unfortunately most kids now think that JW's are mad so she's not doing much for the cause at all.

No Cabbage Patch dolls
Really? I live near the Cabbage Patch and they were really popular around here.
Now the Smurf legend was realy big around here, maye it morphed as it traveled across the country?
My pet peeve stupid rule was the killing of congragation wide gatherings. We had some rather fun and large parties when I was young, but as I got older the only parties had to be around an "excuse" like graduation.

Aug. 15th WT - WT Society Dissing Internet Again - All JW's Beware !
by flipper inwe always know when the gb or wt leaders are nervous and worried about potential alleged " threats " to jehovah's witnesses - because they repetitively keep mentioning these perceived " threats " in talks at assemblies or in wt articles constantly.. the " witness only " august 15th wt is no different.
in a non-study article entitled " the internet - making wise use of a global tool " once again the wt society instills doubt and fear into witnesses by " warning " them about use of the internet.
3 " while the internet can provide valuable information, save us time, and serve a useful function, it can also misinform us, consune an inordinate amount of our time, and corrupt us morally.

Repost:
I remember that article, and that picture, fear mongering indeed.
Today, anyone with an Internet connection can become a desktop professor, pretending to be in the know, without even revealing his name. And there are no rules on who can publish ideas, information, images, and suggestions. "
However I find this statement most hypocritical considering we don’t know who writes their books. In religion there are also no rules on who can publish ideas, information, images and suggestions. Suggestions indeed. Think about that for a moment, are there rules in this country on who can publish physical books or magazines.
