Venus, Serena & Oprah
by jazbug infyi...in case no one else has posted this.
the williams sisters are going to be on oprah today....wonder if they'll do any "national witnessing".
judging by the commercials for the show, they must be setting new trends in proper dress for jw's.

Should I continue to support Bill Bowen?
by Gamaliel into whom it may concern, .
i have contributed financially to the cause of silentlambs.org and have, to a smaller extent, even promoted the website.
it is difficult enough to fathom the depth of hurt heaped on humankind, but impossible for me to understand how such suffering can be compounded with injustice, as i read experiences on silentlambs.org.

I'm not taking sides with Bill/Ray issue but I do support Bill's work. He has been helping me and 2 others with issues involving the WTS. I don't know how much time he actually spends with what we do but I know it is not minimal. Feeling badly that he was doing this free, I told him I would like to pay him something for his help. He told me that I could donate to SL if my heart moved me to do so but he would not take any money for his time. His comment was, "Maybe it will make up for some of those talks I gave (at the KH)." So I would have trouble finding fault with what he does.
As someone said a couple of weeks ago, Ray did what he felt was right at the time and Bill is doing what is needed now. And I agree with others who wrote that Bill (or Ray) is perfect. This is somethiing Bill has never done before so it's a learn as you go process. Since he is so passionate about what he does, he is bound to step on some toes along the way but at least he is DOING something and not just talking about it or pretending that the problem doesn't exist.

ADVICE NEEDED
by Mary ini need some advice on this one: a friend of mine who is still an active jw called me today all freaked out because another friend of hers, who only got baptized this summer, wants to leave "the truth".
this is because she's been talking to "worldly" people and they've almost got her convinced that the religion is a cult.. .
my girlfriend, sarah says of course, that this is "satan" trying to blind her, etc.

I'm pretty new at this exit thing....exiting from a cult .....but one of the things that really helped me is Steve Hassans book, "COMBATTING CULT MIND CONTROL". I don't know if she has been it long enough to see the connections between cults and JW's but it was sure an eye opener for me. The trick is to get someone to read it in the first place. Of course, the first one I read was C of C by Franz which helped to really open my mind to anything else.
Good luck jazbug

new service report (upturn)
by whatiloveaboutwater in.
has anyone seen the new figures in the jan 1st watchtower - i have.
what do you think about them?.
-
jazbug
It appears that JW's are having more children the last 20yrs. Many stifled that desire before '75. So many of those are old enuf in the WTS world to get baptized. The last baptism I saw (Mar.02) almost all that were baptized looked like they were under 16. So I wonder how much of the increase is JW kids, since most of them don't have a choice. I also doubt the figures. I think next year will be more telling tho. Dateline didn't show till May 28 and it takes awhile for people to decide what to do. Those figures close the end of Aug. I know that many are leaving since the abuse scandal has come to light, myself included along with 2 others just in my circle of influence which isn't a very large circle.

In my opinion, no subscriptions is part of a bigger picture. It's not a $ issue. It's control. Put these three changes together...NO SUBS...COUNT 15 MIN.OF TIME if you are ill, disabled, etc....1ST 3 MO. OF 2003 WILL SEE A MASSIVE CAMPAIGN BY ELDERS TO REACTIVATE INACTIVE ONES. Sooo, if you are inactive, you aren't going to get any info from the WTS and I would guess that with the other 2 points above, SOMETHING IS GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT INACTIVE ONES....maybe da'd. Being able to count 15 min. means that no one has an excuse for not turning in time. I think inactive ones are becoming a threat to the WTS and they want to tighten up the control on the members. Just my observations....jazbug

Why Are JWs So Hard To Get Through To?
by Tower Man inwe have a brand new audio mp3 on our site.
it's by fran sankey and it's called, "witnessing to jehovah's witnesses".
fran shares some practical witnessing tips, discusses the watchtower mindset and reveals reasons why jehovah's witnesses are so difficult to penetrate with the gospel.

After reading Steve Hassan's book on Combatting Cults, the answer is so simple....JW's are totally mind controlled. Even as I read the book, I kept trying to rationalize his points and saying to myself, "Well at least we don't do this," then a second later, I would say, "oh, yes we do"> Some of the things are so subtle and since JW's don't wear strange clothes, and chant on street corners (pass out mags on street corners tho) many people don't recognize the cult connection. He also says, "If you are mind controlled, how would you know it?" If you knew it, you would get out......So after almost 35 yrs as a JW, I am on my way out. But it is very difficult because I spent a lot of time trying to disprove this was a cult (thru the yrs. ) and now here I am, having to accept the fact that JW's are a cult and I have taught people for years all of this untruth.
I think for most JW's it will take something hitting them very personally before they will question the WTS. As long as everything is going well for them, they will believe that if things weren't going well, they would get the help and love they need. As Ray franz said, "It is all a perception but not reality." JW's perceve the organization one way but in reality it is completely different.

i sent this today after re-reading blondies post on the article for todays watchtower study on apostates :-) .

rwagoner's letter reminds me of this commentary at www.jhuger.com/kisshank.mv. This was NOT written by a JW, believe it or not.
