i'm reading a book about the battle of salamis and i ran across a real gem.

the ancient greeks had a class of people who were devoted to communicating the thoughts and will of the gods to the people.

these people, and their instutions were considered the gods' spokespeople.

Gawd.... every time I read that quote I want to be sick....

"The channel of communication that Jehovah is using today" == the Watchtower Society.

Ergo,

"By word or action, may we never challenge the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY."

I find it funny how, when faced with their false prophecies, the WT$ says "we never said we're a prophet!"..... all the while claiming to be God's "channel of communication" out of the other side of their mouth...

For all intents and purposes, there is no difference between the two. Prophet = God's channel of communication.

Major flaw in the Society's 1914-Gentile Times doctrine

one of the major flaws (i say one because there are many) in the society's '1914-gentile times' doctrine is an oft-overlooked one.

very simply, the watchtower society predicted the end of the "gentile times" for autumn of 1914; yet the first world war began in the summer of 1914 (july 28) and really was triggered in june of 1914 with the assassination of archduke ferdinand.

as such, the first world war actually lends no support whatsoever to the watchtower society's 1914-gentile times doctrine despite the fact that the society has continuously offered it as support.. rutherford was very aware of this major discrepancy in the doctrine.

The Oracle:

I thought I would check it out to see if the JWs could point to some kind of ramp up in involvement or ferocity of attacks during that month of October in 1914, and thus in typical spin doctor fashion rationalize the October date for the end of the Gentile Times and the subsequent ouster of Satan from the heavens as accurate and pivitol.

Good idea. If there had been something around Oct 1 for them to latch onto, they probably would have done just that.
