  Naturally. The Quran gives women a few rights, the right to inherit property for example, pathetic I know, but the bible gives women no rights. Women are property.

  As to the rest the bible is just as monstrous as the quaran - take your pick slavery, paedophilia, incest, homophobia, immolation, stoning, cuting of hands, child sacrifice etc bigoted violent attitudes abound.

  Anyone who pretends one is better than the other hasn't read them.

  I found the bible (in parts)less nonsensical but that's probably cultural bias.

  i would like to see a unified effort from those that have defected.

  certainly there are exceptional, very legitimate, detailed experiences from a few.

  what about the regulars that chose to leave?

  Actually, I don't believe they are Christian - at least they don't believe in the central tenets of the Christian faith.

  And they have the cheek to call other faith's 'so - called Christians'. Humnph. Sassa frassin'....

  we have done this before but we have a fair number of newbie's on this site and some are struggling with the question about other belief systems and non belief.

  where are you now in your own mind?

  Yes JWdaughter, you are right, they would never have taken the word of a women against a man, so she just got away with her life due to the 'blessings'of this law.

  It seems even a bunch of bronze age nomads outdo the Watchtower when it comes to women and children's rights!

  saw a stat that there have been 1.4 million Americans killed by guns since the late 60's. More deaths than Americans in all the wars.

  That stat is simply horrendous. I am speechless. That's got to be as bad as some war torn countries, surely. Gobsmaked.

  I don't believe the nonsense that there's one person out there for everyone. You can find another girl that will be just as compatible and you'll feel just as strongly about that won't be in a cult. Just move on. I absolutely promise you that your life will be better if you do. There is no doubt in my mind.

  I know you really don't want to hear this, lovey, but it's 100% true. I mean if were true we have these 1 special soul-mates imagine what the chances of meeting them would be, let alone at the same age, language etc etc. Mother nature is not fussy. She want's you making babies asap!! There really are lot's of fantastic girls & boys out there, any number of whom you could be trully happy with, if only you will let yourself!

  Is there more going on here? Would you like to be her knight in shining armour - and resue her maybe? I am very sorry if I have this wrong, but do I remember you mentioning she is homeless, & was sleeping on a bench or something? If so it gives you an idea of how uncaring the WT association is, a Christian org who allow their own to be homeless with no charitable branch -that it's just a business shines out in this area of JW - dom like no other. Even that I can easily imagine it say's a lot. They strongly discourage education, request money then provide no aid to needy members. How un-Christian!

  Please take care of yourself and maybe seek some help, counselling, to try and work this out of your system. As to the phone call, I only know JW's do not celebrate, but if you wish to call a friend to give them a warm greeting go right ahead! Who know's, it may lift her spirits enough to get her thinking why simple good wishes for a holiday could be so wrong!

  i know i still have so much to learn i mean im only 14 but but even at a young age i have learned and i know what love is.

  As a mother, I can say of the two of you you are in far the best position. You have all options open to you that a normal 14 year old has - to have a girlfriend or not, to play sports or join a club, to go to college or become an apprentice, to study the arts or the sciences, to learn an instrument or join the scouts, the world is your oyster.

  Not so for your young lady, her options are severely limited. She has, effectively two choices. To do all of those things I've listed (and more)and loose all her friends and family for the rest of her life, or become a 'baptised publisher' - the clue is in the name - effectively a magazine salesman for the Watchtower corporation in order that her loving god will not destroy her in some ghastly way at armaggedon.

  The choice is really that stark. I am sorry to be the harbenger of such news. Take your time, (you have all the time in the world as armaggedon is NOT going to happen anytime soon!) perhaps try to establish how commited she is. If she has doubts perhaps you could peruse JW facts.com together. If she is commited you have a problem. But whatever she decides it must be on her own terms and not for you and vice versa, it will only lead to resentment.

  Oh & try & focus on working on yourself - educationally, physically, emotionally & artistically. That way you will find happiness from within ( oh and be a better catch for her or whoever rolls along!)

  john cedars has posted his latest blog "the trouble with apostates (and why it shouldn't put you off becoming one)".

  i acknowledge that he is entitled to his opionin just as we are ours but i am disappointed in some of his comments.. at this stage i'll try to be objective about it.

  he is defending his own position after all.. what bothers me most is his comments about athiests and christians which he seems to identify as being in conflict with each other.

  I am a thorough going atheist , however I do recognize that I am extremely fortunate to have had the oppertunity of experiencing a sufficient level of education that allowed me to come to that conclusion.

  If I had been left to my own device I would probably be praying to a rock at this very moment.

  Even the smartest of us has had to "stand on the shoulders' of giants" to see as far as we can.

  In fact, in my experience, the more knowledgeable a person is the less condescending they are probably because they,more than anyone, are acutely aware of that fact.
