Why I lost my religion
by Sour Grapes ini was a jw for over 50 years and recently just stopped cold turkey going to the meetings.
years of sitting at the meetings with the boredom, the gloom and doom, repetition of doctrine, the gloom and doom, the fake love, the gloom and doom, the end being so close, do more - do more, just got to be too much for me to stomach.
i stopped praying to god and no longer thank god for the food before i eat.

Pete Za Even at that, I couldn't get through the Watchtower study without ducking out to my car after the public talk, to have a sip of the beer or wine I stashed there, just to stop the waves of anxiety and flip flops going on in my stomach.
A week or two after ending my meeting attendance, the years of anxiety I had been suffering, magically disappeared.
Just wanna say I'm So glad Pete Zahut . Honestly you could have ended up slowly dying that way.Believe me I've seen it happen.👍

Kleenex Head Covering
by jwundubbed ingrowing up a woman in the cult was pretty bleak.
most of the adult women i knew were either depressed sad women or an embarrassment to me.
i was typical kid in that regard.

Having gotten out of the cult and having learned a whole lot more about cycles of abuse and what abuse does and does not look like,
"Cycles of abuse" yes there certainly is a good deal of that in the org. Abusive women, certainly, abusive parent's - very, very definitely. And of course abusive husbands. However, there were also some very, very decent, good sorts in the org, of both sexes.
The worst thing about the org is that their nonsense hierarchy and doctrines effectively gagged these good folks into saying nothing when they witnessed abusive behaviour and abuses of POWER.
You know how the saying goes: All it takes for evil to thrive is for good men to do nothing!

Why is there such a 'high turnover' within the Jehovahs Witnesses?
by UnshackleTheChains ini happened to come across a time article in 2008. it was basically talking about the high turnover in american faiths.
it mentioned the jdubs and highlighted the following point.. an even more extreme example of what might be called "masked churn" is the relatively tiny jehovah's witnesses, with a turnover rate of about two-thirds.
that means that two-thirds of the people who told pew they were raised jehovah's witnesses no longer are — yet the group attracts roughly the same number of converts.

Steve2 Sometimes, people who know me have asked, "How come you're still interested in what's going on in JW organization?" I point to my JW family and extended family members. Simple as that.
Of course, that's natural.
I also think it's wanting to be with/talk with/text or forum with exjws. We're a rarther nice little community, very diverse and interesting too!😜
But more than anything we understand each other like no one else can, and that's certainly what drives me to be on the boards or watch YouTube etc.

Ignoble
by Marcial inhttp://desperta.weebly.com/notiacutecias/jovem-de-23-anos-suicida-se-em-portugal-apos-entregar-carta-de-dissociacao.
the disgusting is reached - not only had her parents driven her away, she committed suicide and her exclusion is announced after her death, which means that she was ostracized by all and it will be said that this sect is a spiritual paradise.

Google translated( pretty well)
The " Awake" received firsthand the sad suicide news of a 20 year old in the north of Portugal, specifically in the Porto region.
According to the information received, this young woman had already discovered that Jehovah's Witnesses are indeed a sect and had communicated to her parents (with whom she lived), that she no longer wanted to remain in her.
After this attitude was taken, the parents invited her to leave the house, being pressured by the elders, who even advised them to discourage her from expressing her position in writing in a dissociation letter. This pressure for not having a formal separation lasted about 4 months, both by the parents and after the elders themselves.
It should be noted that parents have severed ties with their daughter after they have been thrown out of the house.
Last weekend, the young woman delivered the letter of dissociation and from Monday to Tuesday she committed suicide.
Now comes the most ironic:
Yesterday it was announced in the congregation that it belonged to her dissociation, ie, AFTER HER SUICIDE, it was announced that she was no longer a Witness.
Not even the body cooled yet, and the Watchtower Pharisees hastened to announce that she was no longer a Jehovah's Witness, thus promoting her ostracism even after her death.
For those who do not know, Jehovah's Witnesses will most likely not be present at the funeral of someone who has dissociated or been disfellowshipped from the congregation, much less will there be a funeral address made to such a person.
Another victim of this destructive sect! -

"Cultivate Self-Control"
by mrssauk inthis weeks watchtower study (september 2017) about self-control states: "clearly, people who lack self-control are causing problems for themselves and for others.
and the problem of lacking self-control is worsening.
self-discipline was studied in the 1940’s, but recent studies have shown that people have become much worse at exercising self-discipline.

Doubtfull1799 well said!!
I wonder if this study on kids considered if the poor mites back then were just too of terrified their belt wielding parents not to self regulate!
or
maybe people are just developing at a later age. Perhaps because there are less evolutionary pressures to do so! For instance the trend to reproduce later.

Talking about the article dark spilver :
Was that a necessarily 'bad' thing though from the JWs point-of-view?
And, I've always thought, it kind of fits in with their theology. That Jehovah "calls" people doesn't really make sense if whole extended families stay jws. It makes more sense ( to me anyway) that individuals become jws. I mean, ok, you might get a few whole families with ' the right heart condition' but if you got one person, who then influenced everyone else's 'heart condition' to become jw's, doesn't it make Armageddon unfair? That you are destroyed because you had the bad luck not to be born into, or related by, a Jehovahs witness?

Q. If their was in fact an ALMIGHTY GOD, CREATOR of the UNIVERSE then why is he/she relying on money from imperfect humans to fund his purpose.?
A.There spin on that is because it gives an opportunity for JWs to show their appreciation to Jehovah.
MY spin on THEIR spin would be ok, fine, lets show our appreciation to the God of all the gold and silver (since it's his already) - BY giving ONE penny, or cent, as a TOLKEN of our appreciation!

Why I get out of bed every morning.
by compound complex inbecause someone needs my help.. as a jw -- you can relate -- i truly believed that what everyone really needed was the kingdom hope and its eventual reality.
you know, the hope that does not lead to disappointment.
of course, if anyone needed practical help with a task or getting through some difficulty, most of us realized that was part of being a helpful and caring friend (or family member).. at nearly seventy years of age -- no, i didn't enter the promised kingdom in my healthful and vibrant youth -- my getting out of bed isn't so bad.

Yes CoCo it would be good, just now, to have back our youthful vigour.
But I always thought, as to others? Well I know the people I loved and respected most were, to a man and women, older people.
What would we *do* without them? They are, with young children, our very best we have and , without whom the world would be a cold and joyless place. In your case I have a proverb I will always think of *you * CoCo whenever I hear it:
Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.
