  Apathy and of course Scandals!

  i remember as a young dub, being told by others and particularly from the platform that apathy was the number one enemy and in many ways i think that's true today.

  people are seeing a change from the 70's - 80's (the last time the end 'felt' close to many) and now the witnesses are in a rut.

  the society seem to have backed off from making bold claims and instead seem to be trying their best to retain the members they have as opposed to trying to gain attention of others as they did in the formative years of the religion when they wore sandwich boards - throw in the growing spotlight on child abuse issues and you've got yourself a religion that's trapped in a purgatory of sorts - the majority of long time members will stay in the religion and die in the religion but as time goes on i think are clearly losing interest and the 'fiery passion' that used to be so obvious before and outsiders just arent interested as there are better, more interesting things to do.

  What precisely is the point of the UK Chelmsford branch? With no printing and all video content coming from the US, what will they all be doing there?

  So they maybe need a Service dept. and legal/child abuse dept. to keep the dwindling publishers in line, but I guarantee that puppy will be sold off within the next 20 years, and within 50 years there will be virtually no UK Jehovahs Witness congregations left. Maybe some in the major cities but that will be it at most.

  Neaty B.Plus, the NWT is the only Bible I know of that says that people would thereafter go to "give commendation" to Jepthas daughter. Every other Bible I've seen including the original Hebrew says that they would go to 'mourn' her.

  Outrageous example of changing The meaning totally. NWT is not a translation just another piece of their propaganda.

  The particularly rambling point I was trying to make, too, was that Jehovah really was complicit in the whole thing, which is why Jehovahs Witnesses are so keen to outright change the Bible translation.

  Yup, Judges is a particularly unpleasant work of fiction.

  these special pioneers took the lead in the phonograph work when the society voluntarily withdrew from commercial use of the radio.. to learn of the effectiveness of this new program let's read from the 1940 yearbook, which presents the report for the 1939 service year:.

  the special pioneer work was announced at the columbus convention in september, 1937, and that work has continued now for two years with good results.

  when the special pioneer work began the company publishers were not convinced of the value of making back-calls and the regular daily use of the phonograph.. about 200 specially chosen pioneers throughout the country took upon themselves the responsibility of really putting to use the phonograph.

  Pretty soon they will own a bank that handles all the atm transactions so they can charge an extra fee for JW's contributions. Why not?

  Interestingly when it comes to making online contributions to the cong, a 3rd party * JW privately owned company* deals with these! I wonder how much they have or had to pay Watchtower for a piece of that action. Nepotism played a part, too, no doubt.There's a Mike and Kim vid somewhere on the subject.

  i've been to the kingdom ministry school (for elders) recently and can report that it is mostly the usual mix of cliches and platitudes.

  several letters where basically just read through one line at a time.

  one point early on though almost made me laugh out loud.

Interestingly, on both occasions someone was gonna get a roasting - the first time when Abraham offers to sacrifice Issac to Jehovah, and the second time when Saul threatens to sacrifice Johnathan. This time to placate Jehovah, since Johnathan had broken a rule on fasting after a fortunate outcome in battle. Saul feared that without a human offering Jehovah would be too angry to allow them to complete their winning streak.

  On both Occasions God, or man, intervened to prevent the offering. In the case of Jephthah, his daughter requested two months grace to bewail "her virginity", you would think that someone in that time could have worked out a deal to stop it! And why was Jephthah offering the first thing "out of his house"??? He must have known it was at least likely to be human, which makes you think human sacrifice wasn't unheard of amoung the Isrealites, if they wanted something from God badly enough, that is.

  The witnesses insist that this daughter was merely offered up in a spiritual sense, to serve at the temple, perhaps.They claim she went to bewail she would not marry- not her impending death. But since the Jews at that time had no concept of an afterlife, or any life, but this one, having children meant, essentially, your immortality. To this day having children is incredibly important to Jews. Since she was Jephthah's only child, it meant he too would have no descendents to mourn him.

  As to the Witness interpretation, the guys who wrote the Hebrew scriptures aren't having any of it. The modern Jews completely accept this was a human sacrifice. They know that their word "olah" means one thing. In fact I believe it's the root of the word "holocaust", coined by author Ellie Weisel, an "offering up" of the Jewish people. Despite scriptures prohibiting the practice, like polytheism, human sacrifice was definately practiced by ancient Isrealites, and there is evidence of both scattered throughout the Bible.

  Can someone tell me why Joan's ark and the flood not true and impossible?

  hey everyone.

  i have a question and i hope i'm not confusing this with something else i heard.

  while watching ex jw videos on youtube many of them talk about how noah's ark and the flood didn't happen and it's impossible.

  I want to offer some information, not from a scientific point of view ( ice core) but from a textual one. You see, Noahs arc isnt the original flood myth, there is a summarian legend called the epic of Gilgamesh which is 1,000 years older than the Noah story. But that isn't even the oldest one, there's another with all the same details which is 500 years older than Gilgamesh called Atra-Hassis. But even that isn't the oldest. We have fragments of yet an older story about a man called Ziasudra. All these stories feature an angry god who orders a man onto a boat with all the animals. They even send out birds to find dry land. If Noah is the original story, why did it take them over 1,700 years to write it down??https://youtu.be/_um69RqBpSw

  2 january 15, 1892 to help the reader understand the truth regarding russell and his supposed appointment as, what the watchtower this year referred to, "he certainly was that minister" ...making vague reference to his being called "the laodicean minister" (found on his tombstone).

  Well, yes, strictly speaking, as it was his wife Maria who called him the faithfull and wise servant. He didn't reject it, and when it's your wife who is calling you such, most people would assume that he must have approved of the idea at the very least - otherwise he would have soon " shut that shit down" as Negan would say!
