A Must Read Update on WBTS and Darkspilver from reddit

many of us know that watch tower (yes, two words in this case) has issued a subpoena to reddit to try to gain darkspilver's identity due to accusations of copyright infringement:.

tl;dr: on april 9, watch tower filed a response to the eff's motion to quash (filed march 26) regarding the subpoena submitted to reddit in an attempt to find /u/darkspilver's identity.. the wt response is publicly available here as a pdf, from the site court listener.. a number of other documents relating to the case are available on the same site, here.. and the eff's motion to quash is available on the eff's website here.. details: as i'm sure many of us know, watch tower (yes, two words in this case) has issued a subpoena to reddit to try to gain /u/darkspilver's identity due to accusations of copyright infringement.

specifically, watch tower is claiming copyright infringement for two things: first, darkspilver posted the back page of the november 2018 watchtower which was an article entitled "what gift can we give to jehovah?” which explained how to donate.

Thanks so much Blondie for posting. It sounds all good and I'd be very surprised if the judge rules in Watchtower's favour

It seems as if Reddit has met the requirements of the Takedown and taking the issue any further doesn't serve to achieve anything from a copyright point of view or "taking traffic away' from JW.orgs website (Lol). It also seems from a procedural point of view Magistrate Kim should not have ruled the way she did without first consulting with Darkspilver (consent).

Either way the harms would be very great for future (1st amendment) rights to annonymous commentry, which surely must be the courts first priority given that DS is not a US citizen anyway.

In case anyone ( or anyone you know) is strapped for cash or disagrees with expensive funerals, here is some information about "direct cremation". It doesn't mean you don't get to celebrate the persons death in the way they wish, it just means cutting out the major costs. Once you have the persons ashes you can really be creative, individual and personalize the celebration of their life.

I've thought of it a lot. There are so many options, especially in the states.

Whatever you do don't embalm it's so bad for the environment. Nasty chemicals. Have a natural burial where you help the soil. It's also much cheaper. Lots of undertaker don't tell the truth and over charge. I love this lady who is a qualified mortician and does affordable natural burials. She's very honest about all aspects of the funeral industry - as well as gorgeous and super entertaining!

Blew it this morning with 4 JWs

so i decided to go hunting for jws this morning.

walked to the end of my driveway and who should be approaching...but 2 ladies, one old (dianne) and one younger both with watchtower mags in hand.

dianne shared how the world was under the control of satan etc.

I like that Sparky, who is he? Never heard of him, sounds like a wise dude. Interesting.

Anyway, Van, you meant well! As did the JW if we're being honest. Just because the Org is hypocritical doesn't mean most JWs are. I find the most effective method is to drop one, or at most two, thoughts/questions/statements of fact. That way they don't get overwhelmed & can remember what you've said later on when they calm down.

on the way, she was almost crying with joy when she read that jw's will have free public transportation if they wear their lapel badge and have matching id.

The truth is JWs look forward to International conventions for the Extra-curriculars - the fun and games, sight-seeing, evenings out and 'shows' they get to rehearse and organize, let alone watch.

Watchtowers 'spiritual food' is a snore-fest they have to tolerate in order to enjoy the good stuff. The Org allows all this razzamatazz because it's probably well aware dubs wouldn't fork out a fortune just to listen to a Watchtower-study in another language.

This is a great interview with a Polish exjw who talks about the loss of Polish JWs and the possible reasons for this.

10,000 Polish JWs have left the Org in the last few years. Some have claimed they have moved to the UK but the numbers of UK JWs haven't increased during the same period. In fact they have slightly declined. Which poses the question, where have the British JWs gone if the Polish JWs are all in the UK?
