This is a very interesting thread and I have enjoyed reading all the posts.

The good which some religions do (such as promoting sensible moral values and by helping the needy) could also be dome by purely secular organizations, however without organized religion it probably would be much harder to unite people into having a common set of values in a non-totalitarian way. It would probably also be hard to create secular institutions which would have enough power to effectively resist tyranny and organized evil.

I agree. However I think the Jan 6th event in the US merely demonstrates “entitlement” (as the kids would say) rather than the collapse of democracy, in that particular case.

SBFIf it saves people some money they would otherwise have sent to a psychopathic criminal (psychopath according to a qualified psychiatrist and criminal according to his own description of the countries he has paid vulnerable people for sex) then it’s a good thing that the thread continues to let people know what they are getting into. I am surprised there are still some people who support his behaviour but that’s their choice. At least they can make an informed choice, just as a majority of his patrons have chosen to withdraw their support.

I agree with Slim here. Whilst I think some of the posts have strayed from the subject at hand (with maybe some posts not reflecting well on us 😬) I know the reason that drives the thread at this point is to prevent this grifter from scamming any more money from poor and young/newly awakened JWs.

At least if this thread is visible on Google, they get to make an informed decision if they decide to go ahead and financially support him anyway.

I do understand why others may think otherwise, though….

Interesting this thread has popped up given the recent Montana case with JW lawyer Phillip Brumley being caught and subsequently fined for seriously misleading the court and wasting 17 months of its time.

Not to mention the infamous case of Canadian JW layer David Gnum stating to the Canadian Supreme Court, no less, that shunning does not exist within JW families, that their relationships “remain the same” with the exception of “spiritual matters”.

My god just because someone is created from a stem cell and is effectively a clone, doesn’t make them a “synthetic” person!! This sounds like a revolting way to get around legal definitions of what a human embryo is….and therefore what you can and cannot do with them. How horrific.

Did you ever meet someone born in the 1800’s?

i met freddie franz who was born in the 1880’s and many others from the 1880’s.

but as a very small child i remember someone very old aged 106 and that person was born around 1856 which means that he was around people from the 1700’s..

I knew my great grandmothers and a smattering of great great aunts and uncles, too. All born in the 1800s.

I always thought that my great grandmother who grew up before & without a telephone and even radio & lived to see my school computer and our pong (lol) and Atari, lived through the worlds biggest changes. Now watching my own children’s childhood as the first to truly grow up online, I’m not so sure.

Waton At 91+, if you asked me if I belonged to that now gone generation or the newer crop, I would have to stay with the gone seniors. Does that make me an overlapper? my feelings do not render valid the overlapping overreach of the wt anointed generation .

Waton I’m in my 50s and even I feel that way. I deeply loved my grandparents (maybe 18 yrs your senior?) my great grandmothers, great and even great great aunties and uncles. I miss them so much and I yearn for the time their generation were all here…..it breaks my heart my own children will never know them and seem to have inherited a commercialised, greedy, violent world😔

watchtower lawyer david brumley has been fined for misleading the court during the discovery process of the montana case.

the result was another 17 months of the courts time and the plaintiff having to produce evidence that wtpa did have a pivotal role in congregational business, which brumley had denied hoping that the courts would take his word for it.

Here with the hope that the Court would dismiss Plaintiffs’ cases against WTPA, in-house counsel Brumley signed affidavits that were materially false and intentionally misleading. Doc. 86 at 2-17 (setting forth how WTPA’s own documents establish that Brumley’s sworn statements were obviously and materially false). Brumley’s affidavits formed the sole evidentiary basis of WTPA’s Motion. Both in-house counsel Brumley, as well as WTNY Associate General Counsel Taylor (who also represented WTPA in this case), were uniquely in possession of the documents and information establishing the falsity of Brumley’s representations to the Court. Brumley and Taylor knew that Brumley’s representations were false.

The perpetuation of Brumley’s false and misleading statements wasted Plaintiffs’ and the Court’s time and energy litigating and resolving matters that were not legitimately in dispute. This included not only litigating WTPA’s Motion, but also litigating collateral discovery matters. All told, Brumley and Taylor’s conduct resulted in a 17-month delay of this case, unnecessarily forced Plaintiffs and the Court to waste significant time and resources, and was an intentional attempt to undermine the integrity of these proceedings with false statements and obstruction.

Brumley and Taylor knowingly made and perpetuated false statements and then attempted to cover those false statements up by refusing to produce discoverable and material evidence. The record in this case, as well as the record from other sexual abuse cases, establishes that Brumley’s and Taylor’s conduct is not an aberration; it was immediately obvious that Brumley’s sworn statements to this Court were false and their bad faith conduct here is consistent with how WTPA’s lawyers have conducted themselves in other cases. In short, this is what they do.

Based on the foregoing, Plaintiffs believe that sanctions are appropriate, including:

Awarding Plaintiffs’ attorneys' fees and costs for all of the time spent addressing WTPA’s Motion - including all the time spent on all of the jurisdictional discovery;
Requiring attorneys Brumley and Taylor to self-report to all applicable licensing boards and courts for knowingly perpetuating false and misleading statements; and
Daily sanctions of an amount determined appropriate by the Court for each day that WTPA, acting through Brumley and Taylor, improperly and vexatiously delayed this case.

In this case, no, given that Phil Brumley* is probably the most senior US based Watchtower lawyer. I don’t think your average elder should model themselves on Brumley, however, when relying on watchtower to cough up for them! He is of the 1% who has made himself a very tidy income out of being a JW.

yes he intentionally mislead the court in using the present tense when describing WTPA current relationship with the Montana congregations. However the court also noted that the Governing Body still has overall governance for all areas of watchtower procedure and all congregations and departments to this day.

The courts really do have Watchtowers number!

*Apologies I gave the lawyers name as ‘David Brumley’ on page one…..probably conflating David Guam, the Canadian perjurer, and Philip Brumley, his US counterpart!
