  Pete It would seem obvious to pasters in most other churches that their role is to offer comfort and support. In the JWs and some others they take on the role of detectives and prosecutors.

  Exactly. There's very little sensitivity & loving guidance and too much punishment and cruelty - especially when dealing with teens and young adults.

  Blues Also the Shepherd book/elder expectations have changed, mostly due to external pressure. In the very recent past elders where doing things such as forcing rape victims to listen to recordings of their assault - with absolutely no censure from the Borg.

  Samcats When I told him we didn't need that kind of information it stopped. Other than that I never had observed any impropriety while on a committee in regard to details about sexual misconduct

  But samcats Why do you think he went into such detail? I'd guess because that was his expectation, either from previous experience or being told that of others. Perhaps your presence prevented intrusive questions, but despite many decent elders like yourself the overwhelming experience of most people has been the opposite.

  Me too. I also let ads run to the end, but I don't know if it helps?

  Seeing Lloyds "speed networking" project made me think - because we know Lloyd never does anything without "Lloyd" in mind - he was looking for free young 'talent' (that kind too, no doubt). Since EXJWs have had a heads up now about him taking advantage of volunteers, he was hoping to find local Croatian's to work for 'the channel' for free, ostensibly to 'help cult victims' and their resume/CV.

  his cover for "how to leave JWs" is also bad, even though I know some exJW just made it up for him. A professional would have taken a hard pass and done it properly.

  i think the graphics are an option with the Amazon print because ive seen quite a few other self published books in exactly the same style - same colourway and artwork style?

  I also think its going to be hard for him to write another book without straying into serious slander territory, Because we know he wont have any other subject on his mind - or even material to call on -- than his own personal "Nakba" (as he sees it!)

  revelation 21:2 i also saw the holy city, new jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from god and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.. hebrews 11:10 for he (abraham) was awaiting the city having real foundations, whose designer and builder is god.. revelation 21:24 and the nations will walk by means of its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.. revelation 22:1 and he showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, flowing out from the throne of god and of the lamb 2 down the middle of its main street (of the holy city).

  growing up as a jw in the 1960s and 1970s, a common refrain from the yearbook, local elders and circuit overseers was how jws were protected at meetings, conventions, and in the field service by "the angels".

  experiences of "divine intervention" during service, ww2, in communist lands, and conventions were common.

  the internet and google are regularly debunking this myth in the 21st century.

  Blues I don’t know where you were, but I was never taught that we had Gods protection at meetings… Now I did hear a few of the more dopey ones say such things but we never took it seriously.

  Meetings/assemblies were a little more hazy, mainly because of the Australia bombing incident. But service....c'mon Blues, we were certainly taught we were protected out in the ministry by the angels! Perhaps as an elder you lived a little less in La-La Land than we young female 'agreeables' lol.

  perhaps the irs swooped in and claimed fraud and padlocked the headquarters and kingdom hall doors?

  or the gb took the money and ran to a nice non-extradition country to live out their years?

  Initially the majority would find the highest ranking dub available and rally around him (because..of course).

  Later on....I don't know. They'll definitely assume persecution, even if the media reports tax dodging, bankruptcy or some such. I presume most would eventually organise splinter groups of some kind, others would drift away - some would be devastated - many simply relieved. I think an awful lot would just keep on living because that's what we humans do. We carry on...Carry on J-Dubb🤔
