  I Wrote a Young Adult Novel About Being a Witness...Looking for beta-readers

  hey everyone, i posted this over on reddit as well, but recently i wrote a young adult novel about the pressures of growing up as a wtiness.

  i am looking for some volunteers who would be interested in reading it and giving me feedback.

  the novel is a little over 75,000 words and would be around 200- 250 pages in book form if i were to guess roughly.

  Magnum I observed all that the whole while thinking that my wife and I will have nobody - not one single soul. I worry that I will die first and leave her completely alone in the world.

  Reading this breaks my heart. I only wish I lived near you. I'm longing for family, too.

  You know what hurts too? My own beautiful boys were shunned by my own mother. They have no other living grandparents and all the extended family they had died of cancer. I would have given anything to have a surrogate couple to be grandparents to them. They are lovely kids, would have brought pleasure and joy wherever they went and I know they feel bad they have no family.

  Where was "Grandparents R US' when I needed them?

  OP Orange I have noted similar "arrested development" in witnesses. I think I suffered from it myself before I left. A child-like state is "safe" - because we are not allowed to grow into adults emotionally, after all we may develop adult 'interests' which are generally forbidden as JWs!!! There's no temptation if you don't stray from the preoccupations of your average 9 year old.

  The great majority of JWs couldn't begin to show you what a genuine apostate is from the Bible itself.

  Again, More confusion about the direction of the Watchtower Society

  hi friends, i have not been on this board in awhile, and i would like to get some thoughts from some of you.

  i have noticed a change within my 4 siblings in approximately the last year and a half to 2 years regarding their communication with my mother and i. they have either phoned us, texted, emailed, or written a letter or card to us.

  the conversation has been good, and on any topic that comes to mind.

  And up until recently, I never thought that the GB would try to reform the Church ... and yet now we are seeing signs of them trying.

  But do they have the courage, to do a good job of it? Or will the reluctance for change, make them want to drag things out, too long? I just don't know.

  No Zombie My old pal I think it's all about money (as usual!). Donations are going down and their 'outside consultancy firm' has probably told them if they want to keep the coffers coming in, they need to stop hemorrhaging JWs and lighten up.

  Of course we also have plenty of PiMOs not donating now, too!

  Well Barbara Anderson said he's not only inaccurate in statements he's made to British media, but she made it pretty clear in Saturdays podcast she finds it abhorrent that a certain exjw you tuber is paid a monthly salary for his for-profit 'hacktivism' without which he'd have no interest in it.

  I concur with Barb - a true activist driven by genuine principals for whom we all have enormous respect.

  Why Do JW's Believe that Hell is Symbolic When the Disciples of the Apostles believed it Was Literal ?

  looks like the early christians believed jesus when he warned about hell over 40 times.

  why don't the jw's do the same?.

  Apocrypha or church father writings or folk tales etc don't carry any weight for JW's, as I'm sure you know.

  I don't see any mention of it, or any concept here. She called him a different name to his father? Either on her death bed or before?

  after the roman church had consolidated its power in the early middle ages, heretics came to be regarded as enemies of society.

  the crime of heresy was defined as a deliberate denial of an article of truth of the catholic faith, and a public and obstinate persistence in that alleged error.

  at this time, there was a sense of christian unity among townspeople and rulers alike, and most of them agreed with the church that heretics seemed to threaten society itself.. however, the repression of heresy remained unorganized, and with the large scale heresies in the 11th and 12th centuries, pope gregory ix instituted the papal inquisition in 1231 for the apprehension and trial of heretics.

  I thought the reason the church burned people at the stake was because they could not shed blood (clearly an absurd "work around". A perfect example of the letter of the law but not the spirit).

  Saying the church is holy but the people transgress....well, I'm not buying it. The people are the church.

  However, I find your argument about the threat non European's pretending to be Christian posed, whilst spying for the Caliphate. A compelling reason to take drastic action, Since the caliphate wished to reconquer Spain. But what of the Jews? The church cannot claim the conversos were a threat?

  Interesting Watchtower judicial meetings follow the exact same methodology the Spanish inquisition used, according to Dr. Jim Penton!

  Oh boy. If Cedars gets a monthly salary from a wealthy donor, does it even make any difference if others stop donating? He'll continue regardless.
