i've been reading a book called nonsense from the bible.

in it it makes the point that the romans did not crucify robbers.

having since researched this it seems this is true.

How? By reading the new testiment like anyone else?

Almost every book I have ever read had been quite certain that IN GENERAL crucifixtion was reserved for crimes against the state, sidition basically.

Now, that's not to say that this general principal was not abused.

This piece was called a sidile, and likely rested under the bottom, for the purpose described.

Interestingly, another witness myth, that Jesus was crucified on a stake, has been laid to rest by archeologists who say that the victim would carry the crossbar or patibulum (weighing 50-100lbs)and that this would rest on the upright (in a t bar shape at the top.* described as a tau which is Latin equivelent shape T )

Yes, I believe the Romans' reserved crucifiction for treason, basically, certainly not a minor crime like theft. Mindyou, does the NT actually call them thiefs?I can't remember, if so that definately does not fit historically.

Regarding the slow death, it's true that the Romans, if they were being 'merciful'would brake the victims' legs to speed up what was normally a slow death from suffocation basically.

The NT states that a Roman soldier pierces Jesus'side to speed up death so all could be completed prior to the sabbath. This is supposed to fulfill a "scripture" but it is unclear what scripture it is supposed to refer to. Exodus 12 and Numbers 9 are commandments regarding the pashel lamb and Psalms 34.20/19 talk about in the plural righteous people in general.

Another one decides to leave

well in a month where i had a friend of 20 years tell me "we can't kick it no mo" because i no longer go to meetings, i had an even older friend who is coming to visit me, call me and tell me hes out.. currently a high profile ms who gives talks out all over the place, the elders said they are recommending him for appt to the body in sep when the co is coming through.

but nope......hes about to step down all together.. what did it?

because i am not disfellowshipped, and soft peddle my issues with the org, i was able to speak to him about things like blood, and a couple other things.

Problemaddict2 , but she wanted to raise her kids as JW's to give them a moral center,

Bad move, try to disuade her...what if they shun their parents in the years to come when parents totally get ttatt and can't bear the hypocracy of attending.

Moral? In what sense? Beating kids, sexism, homophobia, lies, total disregard for one's neighbour if they don't happen to agree with one's worldview, puting symbolism above people's lives, hypocracy of waiting for legislation to do the right thing, perjury...need I go on?

Discussing the RC with a friend and my JW wife was listening.

i am fuming at the moment and my wife has made me so angry.. i live in germany and an ex jw, a friend of mine is also ex jw but does not understand english so i was giving him a rundown on the friday session of the rc with gj.

my wife was in another part of the house but heard my phone ring and so she came to listen, i did not realize this, because when the phone rang i closed two doors between myself and my wife.

she opened the first door and started listening to the conversation.

DF, this is just rubbish innit? Two people who used to love each other (still do) hurting each other over a 3000 yr old story book. Everyone is right, it is, of course, that rich publishing company that is the root of the problem.

Have you got Steve Hassans' book on cult mind control? Glad you are getting help. One thing I will say, this life is oh so short. We open our eyes for a short time on this beautiful, insane universe- make the most of it, remember you can only control you (and that is arguable!)Life can be tough, grab all the happiness you can and don't let go, oh & make sure you have kids at some point - its the only kind of immortality you will ever have, the ancient jews were right about that!

The Royal Commission and Watchtower - A game changer

i had finished watching all the videos on the royal commission's investigation of jehovah's witnesses (yes, i know more videos are being released).

i am still processing the information of everything that has emerged.

i do not plan to cover it all here, but i would like to point out that it is patently obvious that some of the wt representatives provided misleading information.

I also believe they will be, incrementally, forced to change. I mean when these religons who offered shelter from the evils of society, now have the secular world giving THEM a demonstration in what is trully moral, fair decent behaviour is , its hugely embarrasing for them. Steve is right they are being chastened. Slowly but surely the world IS improving, and religon is going to be dragged kicking and screaming, along with it. Or there won't be any adherents in 100 years time left. Personally, I bloody hope there aren't.

@ nuggat Technically women can be involved in the ~JC process as complainants, victims or witnesses they have no part in the investigative process or the decision making process.

Is Jackson embarrassed to be a JW?

i listened to the majority of jackson's part one testimony and it seems apparent to me that he either:1) is embarrassed to be a jw or 2) doesn't really believe.

i've heard countless times from the platform and in print that we should be proud to be jws and take every opportunity to defend our beliefs.

yet, it seems jackson didn't even want to admit that he believed he was being directly used by jehovah to lead the congregation as his spokesman.

Honestly, I don't believe a #3 would be able to handle a GB position.All the unethical stuff would bother him too much.

After all, Ray Franze was, arguably, a #3.

Too right, can you imagine Ray Franze tolarating this BS for one min, having such a pompous, evasive attitude to such a horrific crime would have made that man physically sick. He was a true "clothe yourselves in love" Christian first, wtbts second.

Old "guardian of the doctrine" knows full well there is no two way intercom with the big man, but is a conservative reactionary with a "keep the great unwashed behaving themselves" attitude, like Rutherford and his ilk Pope Francis Jackson the 2nd is a narcissist who doesn't believe the normal rules of the game apply to him.

Sumerian history

StartrekAngel n my own inquiries, I found Georges Roux's "Ancient Iraq" very informative. It's available from Penguin in paperback and has been updated from time to time by the author. Other books of some help have been guides to hieroglyphics, who wrote what, how and when.

Ha ha, that book is staring right at me as I read this! Now I am definately gonna read it!
