If the WT is a "money making machine"...who gets the money?
by NikL ini've seen claims over the years that wt is in the real estate, book publishing business and is a for profit enterprise at it's core.. can those of you that believe this to be the case tell me who benefits from all this wealth?.
the governing body lives in relatively humble conditions no?.
i've been curious about this for a while.

They use the money to balance out the needs of those publishers/ congregations in poorer,/developing countries I would guess
I apologize for not having the Awake no. to hand, but there was a piece written, or rarther bragging, that poor African brothers and sisters who could not afford to donate much cash would section off a piece of their land to grow veg for the Watchtower. These veg would then be sold at market and the money donated to the org. These are subsistence farmers who can barely grow enough to feed their families. Yet Watchtower takes this pittance from them every month in order to fund the "world wide work".
How very egalitarian of them.

Quality of newer membership
by Lostandfound inon a previous post mamacita29 pointed up the low quality of new jw converts.. is the quality falling even more as the society use lower than low meeting, talks, broadcasts etc.. when i was active initially the organisation and standards seemed totally different today.
i have seen hard working intelligent elders fall by death or exhaustion.
the younger generation that came along never really grasped responsibility hence shortage of good elders, never mind the watered down to almost nothing quality of meetings.

Although the magazine's handed out to the public are smaller and simpler nowadays, I think the argument that the content has become less intellectually challenging is laughable.
The older Awake and Watchtower articles may appear to have more stimulating content but the truth is that most of it is disable goble-de-hook such as
Giants v. Dwarves
Demons
All sorts of pseudo-medical clap-trap such as aluminium pots being dangerous and the heart really governing emotion, anti-vax rubbish etc
Even the so-called deep Bible studies are replacement theory rubbish such as the Franz's anti-type cobblers and the UN stuff.
Try reading it sometime. Its rubbish and always has been.

Phizzy here I smell the whiff of JW propaganda and dissembling is in the WT/JW Org saying that the reason many of the surviving JW's left the Org in the years after gaining freedom was that they "succumbed to materialism".
Dear God I cannot believe the Watchtower had the audacity to print that!
Those of you who think we are over-reacting to Watchtower's untrustworthy nephariousness just meditate on the sentence above...their acusation that jw concentration camp survivors left the org after "succumbing to materialism".
Orphan Crow as always thank you for your well researched contribution to the thread.
And just to finish mad Irishman many contributors to this forum are extremely well educated.

Poor people are sub-human?

escpecially the elders, and they treat their subordinates like filthy gum on the bottom of their shoe?
just wondering because i too am poorer than poor and have spent a fourth of my life homeless already and i am 22.. another thing to consider is why domost of the population on this planet seem to hate the poor, even though we outnumber the middle class and the rich greatly?

The rebel Because many teenagers in England got knocked up because it was good business, and required no education, but entitled the person to free housing and benefits . I blame the government for being so stupid to allow teenagers to simply get knocked up, and be set up for life. That's the pathetic point. Where was the responsible accountable behavior from the government that didn't prevent this happening? Please note governments, its my taxes that pay for your mismanagement.

Some young teens fall pregnant because They lack any love in their life, quite often, with an alcoholic or violent parent. Sometimes they grow up in care homes etc etc and if you think a life of miserable poverty, living on benefits in a council flat is being set up for life then why don't you try it? Or if male recommend it to your daughter???
Have you ever seen the film " Cathy come home"? It kick started help for single mothers as the protagonist becomes homeless and has to literally flee from the authorities, who find her at a railway station in the last, heartbreaking scene, where they take away her children .
Most teen moms try hard to get an education and an awful lot, despite horrendous starts, turn their lives around. A few are too damaged to do so, but do you really envy them or think they are happy or " cushy"??
Why don't you talk about the huge swath of middle and upper classes who inherit their money And fiddle their taxes, baby boomers who got lucky getting mortgages for peanuts and do the same.
