Finds in Jerusalem shore up biblical account of Babylonian conquest (586 BCE date)
by Hecce inthis is a nice article about archaeological finds, what caught my attention is the use of 586 bce as the date for the destruction of jerusalem.. according to biblical descriptions, in 586 bce, the babylonian king nebuchadnezzar vanquished the judaean king zedekiah and razed his capital city, jerusalem.
the babylonian captain of the guard nebuzaradan was dispatched into the city, where, as told in the book of jeremiah, he “burned the house of the lord, and the king’s house; and all the houses of jerusalem, even every great man’s house, burned he with fire.”.

who used to show up on every 607 post? I always hoped he lived long enough to see the WT drop the significance of that date.
Am I missing something ? They haven't dropped the significance of 607 have they?

Great story, very amusingly written.
At first, I thought oh, c'mon, just let it go but you know what...their behaviour stinks. They know darn well what they do..." keep your mouth shut" How dare he!!! Honestly, they are like the mafia ( minus the violence)NOT YOU! Threatening people like that especially when they hold your family hostage.

I can't wait to see it.
The truth is, though, that it was Hitler's resistance to finishing his trapped prey off that allowed them to escape.

Apparently, ISIS fighters have been caught fleeing Mosul dressed as women ...
by LoveUniHateExams ini suppose this is one of those pieces of news that could have been posted in the entertainment section.. yes, isis fighters have been caught by the iraqi army trying to flee mosul dressed as women.. some have been caught wearing the full face veil.
a sensible choice, as it hides those masculine cheekbones, heavy jaw or five o' clock shadow.
others have been more creative, dressing like prostitutes in a shakespeare play.

Jehovah's people are not happy people
by Phoebe ini finally stopped attending the meetings about 4 months go.
i won't be going back - ever.. but i've decided the best reply to the watchtower is to be happy and i do try to be happy every day even thought i wasted my entire life on this religion.
i cherish every day, practice mindfulness and do my best to be content with the life i have.. it is only now that i see that most jws i know are deeply unhappy people.

PheobeIt's a strange, but nice feeling, taking each day as it comes without worrying that I'm not good enough and if I didn't do better God would kill me. Jeez! 60 odd years of that!!! I can't get the time back but think myself lucky that I did finally see the truth and been set free.
Many awake younger JWs don't know whether they should help awaken their 50 plus mum's and Dads , often very depressed people on meds, who bemoan their lack of friends at the hall. One lassie's mum's husband left her, she was desperately miserable until she found a hobby and a wonderful worldly friend. Well, wouldn't you know it they guilted her into giving that up in order to " do more" for the Org.
I would love people like her to see your post - I always encourage them wake their parents unless their is a very particular extenuating factor.

And they are so, so clever to stick random ( in the sense they have nothing to do with their claims) Bible quotes in amongst that toxic rubbish.
I mean ok, no one should be " quickly shaken from ( their) reason," but really what in hells name has that to do with sticking with the WTBTS???

What happened in 1995?
by pale.emperor ini was born in 1984 so was only 9yo in 1995. i read on various posts on here and on other websites about false expectations about 1975 and 1995. i'm aware of the 1975 failure but what was said in 1995?.

why jw's commit suicide?
by notalone inwe all know the rate of suicide is high among jw's.
my question is this- was there some subliminal messages that encourage this.
i was a born in and my entire life i would have these thoughts that could come out of nowhere,"kill yourself.

MOrpheus If you only knew one suicide in however many years in a big city I would say you were very lucky. Check out the exjw reddit sub - we get postings grieving the death of friends ( accompanied with newspaper articles often) every few weeks. They tend to be young, tragically, and stuck in (Pimo) or DF and shunned.
Perhaps you are right, some of these people would have suffered depression anyway, JW or not .Perhaps the statistics for jw's are the same as for the General population. But I would say two things to you.
1) control has increased over the years
2) shunning has increased, too
This has made things worse since your day
