Toasted daughter: Why Jephthah almost certainly sacrificed his daughter to a complicit Jehovah
by Diogenesister injehovah's witnesses insist that jephthah did not sacrifice his daughter to jehovah.
this is important to them because, rarther than jephthah just being a random bad person, jehovah was very much in on the deal.
after all, he made the promise to jehovah that he would "offer up as a burnt offering" on his return the first thing to come out of his house if jehovah would give the ammonites into his hands in battle, and since they were this makes jehovah complicit.. the isrealites had been getting a good thrashing of late, and the gilead elders (oh boy) had come out to ask jephthah, the rejected son of a prostitute (wouldn't you know it) and renown soldier, if he would lead the isrealites into battle for them.. this is when jephthah makes the deal with jehobo, and it all centres on the word for "burnt offering", which is given as "olah".

After all, he made the promise to Jehovah that he would "offer up as a burnt offering" on his return the first thing to come out of his house if Jehovah would give the Ammonites into his hands in Battle, and since they were this makes Jehovah complicit.
The Isrealites had been getting a good thrashing of late, and the Gilead Elders (Oh boy) had come out to ask Jephthah, the rejected son of a prostitute (wouldn't you know it) and renown soldier, if he would lead the Isrealites into battle for them.
This is when Jephthah makes the deal with Jehobo, and it all centres on the word for "burnt offering", which is given as "olah". Now "olah" is used two other times in the Bible. Interestingly, on both occasions someone was gonna get a roasting - the first time when Abraham offers to sacrifice Issac to Jehovah, and the second time when Saul threatens to sacrifice Johnathan. This time to placate Jehovah, since Johnathan had broken a rule on fasting after a fortunate outcome in battle. Saul feared that without a human offering Jehovah would be too angry to allow them to complete their winning streak.
On both Occasions God, or man, intervened to prevent the offering. In the case of Jephthah, his daughter requested two months grace to bewail "her virginity", you would think that someone in that time could have worked out a deal to stop it! And why was Jephthah offering the first thing "out of his house"??? He must have known it was at least likely to be human, which makes you think human sacrifice wasn't unheard of amoung the Isrealites, if they wanted something from God badly enough, that is.
The witnesses insist that this daughter was merely offered up in a spiritual sense, to serve at the temple, perhaps. They claim she went to bewail she would not marry- not her impending death. But since the Jews at that time had no concept of an afterlife, or any life, but this one, having children meant, essentially, your immortality. To this day having children is incredibly important to Jews. Since she was Jephthah's only child, it meant he too would have no descendents to mourn him.
As to the Witness interpretation, the guys who wrote the Hebrew scriptures aren't having any of it. The modern Jews completely accept this was a human sacrifice. They know that their word "olah" means one thing. In fact I believe it's the root of the word "holocaust", coined by author Ellie Weisel, an "offering up" of the Jewish people. Despite scriptures prohibiting the practice, like polytheism, human sacrifice was definately practiced by ancient Isrealites, and there is evidence of both scattered throughout the Bible.

Can someone tell me why Joan's ark and the flood not true and impossible?

I want to offer some information, not from a scientific point of view ( ice core) but from a textual one. You see, Noahs arc isnt the original flood myth, there is a summarian legend called the epic of Gilgamesh which is 1,000 years older than the Noah story. But that isn't even the oldest one, there's another with all the same details which is 500 years older than Gilgamesh called Atra-Hassis. But even that isn't the oldest. We have fragments of yet an older story about a man called Ziasudra. All these stories feature an angry god who orders a man onto a boat with all the animals. They even send out birds to find dry land. If Noah is the original story, why did it take them over 1,700 years to write it down??https://youtu.be/_um69RqBpSw

CT Russell, he loved and supported genocidal militants.
by lastmanstanding ini have the first volumes of the watchtower from the 1800's to the 1900's.. .
i will highlight vol.
2 january 15, 1892 to help the reader understand the truth regarding russell and his supposed appointment as, what the watchtower this year referred to, "he certainly was that minister" ...making vague reference to his being called "the laodicean minister" (found on his tombstone).

Reslight 2Russell never claimed to be the faithful and wise servant and he never claimed to be the Laodicean angel. These claims were made by others.
Well, yes, strictly speaking, as it was his wife Maria who called him the faithfull and wise servant. He didn't reject it, and when it's your wife who is calling you such, most people would assume that he must have approved of the idea at the very least - otherwise he would have soon " shut that shit down" as Negan would say!

yes Dark Spliver they were known as " Pennsylvania Dutch" were they not? I did make the connection though wasn't sure if I was being a bit, well, prejudiced, but I thought that Watchtower has been run by Germans or their descendents for years. Whether the hierarchy appeals to them I don't know.
The fact that German Watchtower encouraged joining the German army, but the British Watchtower didn't, is a bit suspicious given the background of all these Germanic Watchtower high ups /presidents!!

Another congregation bites the dust
by NikL inwent to the meeting last night with my believing wife.
the co was visiting and delivered a really cult-ish talk on loyalty but that's another story.. they made the announcement that starting january 1st they were going to have only 3 congregations in this town instead of 4.. they are dissolving one and growing the territories of the remaining 3. the reason given is that many of the elders are getting up there in age and can't do what they used to do.
basically not enough elders and ministerial servants...or even men reaching out for that matter.

redvip, when they say that elders and mini servants are appointed by holy spirit, they simply mean those ones fit the qualifications given in the scriptures. If ones are not appointed, then the elders consider them lacking in one or more of those qualifications. Also although elders etc may fade or be kicked out, it doesnt change the fact that at one time they did meet the requirements. The org would point to Judas Iscariot as an example
Oh come on AlanA, there are guys who have been appointed or been asked to take the position who simply do not believe in God let alone the Watchtower. what's the holy spirit doing there???
I have also known guys who more than fit the bill who have not been asked, simply because they either don't believe in titles, have a beard or don't fit in the clique of unpleasant, bullying, cheating or alcoholic elders on the BOE already.

I can't wait until they are so short of men there will be 'new light' that Sisters can now be 'Diakanos' ( Deacons) or ministerial servants since they've suddenly " discovered" that Pheobe, a sister, was a Diakanos in the NT!!
Whose taking bets when that will happen? I say the next 10 years.

Wow, thanks Lasty, incredible, I had no idea. The holy spirit really did work wonders *for him* through the German army, since their declaration of war in 1914 led to his daft brand of Christianity being taken at face value by over 8 million people 100 years later!!
It has taken sleepy, thoughtless boys from the farm and has waked them up and educated them, often to far more practical benefit than four years of a college course would have done. As a result, one seldom meets a stupid German.”
Interesting, again as a man with not even a high school diploma, he really did have a chip on his shoulder about further education that has carried on down to this day.

Funnily enough I was surprised they were so worried about getting in (that's obviously why they went with the Bible student guy), after all it's supposedly for the public (as long as they can deal with the numbers no?)
I thought it was interesting that they redacted Maria Russell out of the picture, literally and metaphorically. I wonder if she had pushed for a divorce on grounds of adultery( which she could have done, gracious lady), whether this religion would have turned into the behemoth it has. After all, could an adulterer be the FDS?
The chap accompanying Lloyd is the one who called the police on The Warwick protestors by the way!!!

He's the closet thing to a journalist that I've seen come out of the ex-dub forums.
I think Thats partially why, Data. I think some get the impression he is using the whole exjw thing as a leg-up to a career in journalism. He also, unlike many visable exjw activists, does not help recovering/waking up jws on a personal level ( i.e. unless you can help him with his career path he doesnt want to know )
