I know this is silly quibbling, but...

How can a year 9 student attain 17As and Bs? The very most these are are teacher/in school assessments. These are not exams. Year 9 students don't take formal exams. They haven't even chosen their GCSE subjects yet (or equivalent exams taken at 16).

I don't think this is accurate.

And unless Swedish students spend way more time in school than anyone else I'm not sure how they manage 17 subjects, either, in that year.

I learnt a lot reading this. A couple years back I got a call from a sweet elderly Jamaican witness who just bought his Bible with him and we had a nice conversation. Next time he came around he bought a woman with him about my age, who'd obviously had been raised in the cult.

He talked briefly about his son and mentioned his son saying how much he loved his mum and dad. The woman asked smilingly "was it so-and-so" when he said "no it was John" her face suddenly had a look of revulsion and I knew this son had left the cult! She'd displayed her programming perfectly.

When we ended by discussing their 'closed off' attitude to non JWs she became increasingly unpleasant and finally hit back at me with "bad associations spoil useful habits"(obviously testing me since that's a dog whistle to exJWs). She said "you should only associate with good people" (iron sharpens iron etc)and I was a bit stumped.

I wish I'd had read what you've written about what "encouragement" really means in a cult. I'd have been able to craft a far better response.

i see that marvel are introducing a gay captain america as dc announce the son of superman is bi-sexual.. whereas i don't give a hoot about a person's use of their genitalia as long as it is consensual and not with kids, i'm finding all this 'inclusivity' becoming a bit boring.. are dc and marvel just virtue signalling in the hopes of selling comics and not being set on fire by the antifa frauds?

my last memory of her… a friend from long ago.. julie was a startling beauty, a blue-eyed, natural blonde; a model, guitar player, a singer with glowing purity of tone, a talented writer, and possessed of a wicked sense of humor.. she was too young to be dating and yet she was a natural flirt.

Even if the data dumps show there's myriad ways of avoiding the law, you've got to start somewhere.

As to pensions, I don't see your point Dubstep . No one's talking about cutting their massive profits. Just paying a little tax (which won't touch pensions). And it will be a little. But it's better than nothing....Which is precisely what they pay now.

don't know about the states but employers get tax breaks in UK and property taxes a drop in the ocean for businesses like Facebook & Google etc

there was a recent legal challenge, brought about by a woman who herself has down's, which sought to overturn this sad state of affairs.. and a few days ago, a judge upheld the original law and denied her legal challenge.

this is pretty sick, don't you think?.

Those who think it's wrong, let me ask....are you willing to adopt these kids then? Once they're born with major heart defects, Vision problems hearing loss, infections, Hypothyroidism, blood disorders, hypotonia (poor muscle tone), problems with the upper part of the spine. It's not just a question of having learning disabilities.

Someone used that lass with downs syndrome who went to court to challenge the law. It must have greatly upset her and it's not something she needed to know. Highly doubtful she found out through her own research.

In the UK it's extremely difficult to find adoptive parents for heathy boys over 3, let alone a downs child. They'd face a life of being in state care and as one who was in care for a while I can tell you it's horrific. When my babies were tested for downs (being an older mother) I had to seriously think about how they would manage after I died. The thought of their lonely struggle. There's many in an adult care facility on my road. Most of them get no visitors of their own (who aren't home volunteers).
