NCC What is Roman law and how is that applicable to today?
Roman law is essentially the law practiced in Europe, as opposed to common law which is practiced in the UK*. "The main difference between the two systems is that in common law countries, case law โ in the form of published judicial opinions โ is of primary importance, whereas in civil law systems, codified statutes predominate".
*Scotland has a separate legal jurisdiction with its own courts. In general, the Scottish legal system is a hybrid of common and Roman law, brought mainly via Dutch & French legal influences.
