Congregation in PA sues over mandatory reporting
by Corney inivy hill congregation of jehovah's witnesses is currently suing the pa department of human services.
it requests "a declaration that its elders are entitled to" clergy privilege, or, in the alternative,.
to the extent that the clergyman privilege is determined to exclude its elders on the basis that they are "members of [a] religious organization[] in which members other than the leader thereof are deemed clergymen or ministers," the court declare the statute to be unconstitutional.

They can also be sued when they disclose ecclesiastical communications to law enforcement.
Fisherman This is all irrelevant because the fact is elders don't find out through 'ecclesiastical confession', they find out because a parent or child reports it to them. Victims report it to them because watchtower makes them fear going to the police and they are primed to only tell the elders when the culprit is another witness.
Even if you can argue an elder isn't paid clergy, the circuit overseer certainly is! Abuse is also always reported to them during their circuit/elder meetings. I think authorities should be prosecuting COs for failure to report.
NB LHG makes a very good point about priests being priests for life, whereas elders frequently step down, get deleted, get DF or wake up!!

It seems growing up in a cult many of us become prey to a manipulative and narcissistic types. Having been a victim of CSA, it's possible her sexual boundaries were messed up too. If she has gotten involved with BDSM with an unsafe man it doesn't excuse her if she's guilty. I'm just saying it makes her more vulnerable to emotional abuse and manipulation by sexual predators.
Also as we've said on other threads, just because we reject some of Jehovah's witnesses system of morality doesn't mean that suddenly everything is on the table and that we don't have any sense of sexual morality whatsoever.
I think most ordinary people would concur with 80% of the values JWs hold, actually. Just because we want to reject that 20% that's so toxic, doesn't mean we (particularly as women) don't need to remain careful about the types of guys we allow into our lives.....and our bedrooms.

TonusOH like an advance, if you were working with a publisher. The difference being that the investors don't recoup this advance; they are doing it specifically to support the author. I like the concept, it helps creators get around the gates put up by publishers and industries to maintain control of a product they don't actually create.
not well regulated, so people need to be smart and cautious when deciding where to spend money.
Yes I've supported an author that way but the money I put up was basically the value of the book, a copy of which I received when it was published. So basically it's an advance you provide the author - one they wouldn't get from a publisher. Thoroughly enjoyed the book as did my son who is a history nerd.
So nothing like Lloyds situation, whereby people donated to his Indigogo of £25,000 but still had to buy the book.
Then for the second, he had the nerve to rip off Neil The Great Apostate's book AND charge people for the pleasure. -

Here's a question that I guarantee no one has ever thought of!
by nowwhat? inunlike men who took no note, surely the fallen angels knew of gods plan to flood the earth, so why didn't they build an ark(s) for their nephilum sons?

Indeed, it didn't take long for Noah to grow grapes, make wine, and get drunk. He stripped off his clothes and passed out. So who committed the real sin?
His son, who saw his father naked and reported this to his brothers. LOL
- Have you guys still not figured out the answer yet? - from gross unfairness to logical inconsistencies and plain weird Ass-ery!
- .......according to Jehovah's witnesses, whoever's the BOSS is always RIGHT, always makes perfect sense and is a damnably fine looking* specimen, too!
*See JESUS W 6/17 "Jesus’ was a well formed man" with "a sturdy build.... a strong and powerful man"💪🦵🤸🏋️🏃 with "warm countenance, appealing demeanor (which) must have made this invitation particularly attractive"! 😜😁

Can anyone please tell me why Lloyd's head and face is so fat? His body isn't nearly as fat as his face and head would have you believe. What's up with that? Not that his body is any great shakes either, but compared to his face
Not sure I think it's very helpful to focus on looks. None of us are perfect in that department (except me🤡) But since you asked....
The short answer is he is overweight. Lloyd is very tall, so it's not as apparent as it would be for a shorter person. This picture was taken in his 30s. It's the weight around the midriff that's most damaging for someone so young.
I always knew there was something going on with Lloyd emotionally because his weight fluctuated so dramatically for a man in his 30s...like literally from one video to the next, at times. It all says to me that he needs councilling. That he gives people life advice who leave questions on his "speakpipe" is ridiculous. The physician needs to heal himself first!!
I think Lloyd's hair trigger response to a perceived slight, that has alienated him from so many, stems from childhood. His thin skin derives from a sense of shame at any perceived criticism.Psychologists say narcissistic anger stems from the threat of 'being found out as not being the person the narcissist portrays themselves as'.
You can easily imagine how that could stem partly from a rigidly controlled JW upbringing!

Lloyd is notorious for creating an illusion that they are hurting for money and needing everything to be crowdfunded. On his last trip to Australia a collection was taken up amongst the locals that ended up covering his entire family's trip when you damn well know he could have afforded it.
When a family of four is being flown to the other side of the planet on other people's generosity is the point where activism isn't really activism anymore. It's a front for living a rather comfortable lifestyle, which is why he is so angry and is lashing out with lawsuits.
I tried to say something to this effect on the thread on this board about the Australian gathering.
I'm not going to say much more but it has been glaringly obvious he has used the generosity and kind heartedness, in particular, of two people who used to be on this board quite often. Whom I watched awaken.
I felt deflated because I had my one and only contra temps with Dub stepped over it. I tried to explain to him privately it really wasn't born of resentment. I just really hate seeing people taken advantage of. I think mainly because it's happened to me so often in my life it's....as the kids say.....quite triggering for me.😜

Does the WTS have a clergy class
by blondie inthis can be confusing because the wts has adjusted from not having a clergy class to not having a "paid" clergy class.. "a congregation of brothers precludes having a proud clergy class that honors itself with high-sounding titles and elevates itself above a laity" wt 6/1/2001 p. 12, pp 11. still same idea in 2021 wt october, p. 20, pp.
7, but 2022 in the wt publication, frequently asked questions about jehovah’s witnesses, page 13, the wts inserts "paid" in front of "clergy perhaps to shore up their current statement in secular courts they have clergy, just not paid) "following the model of first-century christianity, jehovah’s witnesses have no clergy-laity division.
all baptized witnesses are ordained ministers and share in the preaching and teaching work.

But they do have a paid clergy class....Circuit overseer's (the most thoughtless name for an American religion!).
The stipend of Christendom's clergy is entirely the same thing as the monthly allowance of that of a CO!
