  growing up as a jw in the 1960s and 1970s, a common refrain from the yearbook, local elders and circuit overseers was how jws were protected at meetings, conventions, and in the field service by "the angels".

  experiences of "divine intervention" during service, ww2, in communist lands, and conventions were common.

  the internet and google are regularly debunking this myth in the 21st century.

  Blues I don’t know where you were, but I was never taught that we had Gods protection at meetings… Now I did hear a few of the more dopey ones say such things but we never took it seriously.

  Meetings/assemblies were a little more hazy, mainly because of the Australia bombing incident. But service....c'mon Blues, we were certainly taught we were protected out in the ministry by the angels! Perhaps as an elder you lived a little less in La-La Land than we young female 'agreeables' lol.

  Initially the majority would find the highest ranking dub available and rally around him (because..of course).

  Later on....I don't know. They'll definitely assume persecution, even if the media reports tax dodging, bankruptcy or some such. I presume most would eventually organise splinter groups of some kind, others would drift away - some would be devastated - many simply relieved. I think an awful lot would just keep on living because that's what we humans do. We carry on...Carry on J-Dubb🤔

  Really good point, Ding. Actually the concept of sacrifice itself couldn't be more pagan & superstitious....yet the apostles didn't have an issue.

  I think there were servants of God who celebrated birthdays (Lott's children) but the Borg wiggle out of that one because the translation is 'loose'.

  R&R yes a lot of acceptable celebrations are of recent, American origin - too new to have been banned in the olden days by Rutherford/Knorr/Franz etc

  Zo and I never wrote one letter that was actually sent off, during covid zoom ministry. I think most were the same as us.

  i been reading quite a few experiences on reddit lately, and their seems to be a common theme coming up….

  …dialed-up-to-eleven shunning of xjws by their witness relatives.. it reminds me of back in the day, listening to some of the over-the-top vitriol displayed by hard-core loyalists when the topic of evolution or apostates came up….

  …i was gobsmacked when i finally realized these guys weren’t offended and indignant because they thought it was lies….
