  BbqbobThey use 1 Corinthians 5:11-13. Can you explain how this does not apply to Christians?

  Even If you accept that 1.cor 5 is a direct command to shun adult Christians who engage in the sins as listed, what about the many, many witnesses who are shunned for disassociating? Or merely stating they don't accept the two class system for Christian's as per Watchtower doctrine? For not accepting the GB is the faithful slave? For accepting a blood transfusion or for disobeying the branch and reporting child abuse to the authorities? What about the shunning of abuse victims who stop attending meetings their abusers attend and leave the religion that protects them? Victims of domestic violence who leave home - even if they don't remarry??

  We hear stories of such shunning again and again!

  Our own Barbara Anderson on this board is shunned by her only child and prevented from seeing her grandchild, all for protecting children in the congregations!

  One point he tried to drill that made little sense was how the book of Deuteronomy only forbade men from dressing like women, not necessarily transitioning to women.

  Riiiiight......even bronze age tribal peoples understood human biology well enough to know men can't change sex.....

  ......but then if Rutherford was doo- lally enough to think men becoming women was a "well established fact" why not cult leader 2.0 Lloyd "Evan's Gate" Evan's?

  New light on shunning?

  one theory why tony was booted out was because he was a stickler for not changing the shunning doctrine.

  he actually said the words we will never ever change it.. they are slowly deleting all of tony’s videos and now losing court cases and losing government hand outs in places like norway.. it’s looking very likely they will release new light on shunning policy after losing this latest one in norway.. .

  what are the odds they coincidentally get new light from jehovah and lighten up their shunning policy ?.

  I agree they're going to have to get around it when it comes to minors, because that's the issue that caught the Norwegian govts attention.

  With adults it may have been harder to argue around the whole freedom of belief thing in court.

  However they are in a tight spot, because on the one hand the easy, most straightforward solution is to stop minors being baptised in the first place. That way there's no disfellowshipping/shunning of minors without the need to make major doctrinal changes.

  But getting kids baptised and locked in through fear of loosing everybody, and everything, they've ever known is just about the only way they get new members. The risk in waiting until the kids of JWs are 18 to get baptised is that it leaves them enough time & maturity to start researching and/or thinking for themselves. The risk they become independent enough - emotionally & financially - to say 'no' to parental demands to join the religion.

  Wow Green hornet - did you ever put your life story down for posterity??

  That story is absolutely heartbreaking rending. Iron lungs were a kind of terror when I was young. We would read such stories with awe. Not that anyone my generation had to suffer the terrible effects of polio....thanks to vaccines. Those were the days when medicine was not so profit driven. I had a great aunt with the condition. She walked with calipers and sticks.

  hey everyone, i posted this over on reddit as well, but recently i wrote a young adult novel about the pressures of growing up as a wtiness.

  i am looking for some volunteers who would be interested in reading it and giving me feedback.

  the novel is a little over 75,000 words and would be around 200- 250 pages in book form if i were to guess roughly.

  Magnum I observed all that the whole while thinking that my wife and I will have nobody - not one single soul. I worry that I will die first and leave her completely alone in the world.

  Reading this breaks my heart. I only wish I lived near you. I'm longing for family, too.

  You know what hurts too? My own beautiful boys were shunned by my own mother. They have no other living grandparents and all the extended family they had died of cancer. I would have given anything to have a surrogate couple to be grandparents to them. They are lovely kids, would have brought pleasure and joy wherever they went and I know they feel bad they have no family.

  Where was "Grandparents R US' when I needed them?

  OP Orange I have noted similar "arrested development" in witnesses. I think I suffered from it myself before I left. A child-like state is "safe" - because we are not allowed to grow into adults emotionally, after all we may develop adult 'interests' which are generally forbidden as JWs!!! There's no temptation if you don't stray from the preoccupations of your average 9 year old.
