Just got off the phone with my mom
by doublelife init's so depressing.
we were talking about what she's going to do as she gets older and reaches retirement age.
now that my dad has died(they were divorced unscripturally and she's stayed single this whole time), she is trying to lose weight so she can start man hunting.

yknot: I don't think I'd be able to talk her into going back to school. We've already talked about that before, and she had such a hard time with MA school(she just barely passed) that I don't think she'd be able to do nursing school. She live about 20 outside of Dallas. I think the reason she's having a hard time getting hired is because she was fired from her last job. She worked as a dental assistant for about 12 or 13 years, but only at one place. So she was fired from the only place that she can use as a job reference. Of course, my mom thinks that the reason she was fired is because she is a jw(persecution complex). The company she worked for started moving her around to different locations towards the end, and the last boss she worked with told her that the reason they were doing that is because she just isn't good at her job. I don't know a whole lot about what Texas brothers around her age are looking for, but I'd love to get her "slim and HAWT" again. And my mom already wears support undergarments, but it'll be a challenge to get her to fix her hair and makeup properly. Most Texan women overapply makeup and hair products, my mom underapplies it.
Black Sheep: Very true. I even had a jw friend tell me the same thing a few years ago. However, she is still my mom and I'm going to worry about her, especially since she has nothing to take care of herself with.

blondie: My mom was a dental assistant for all of my teenage and adult years. She just got fired last year. Texas workforce commission paid for her to go to medical assisting school. So she is certified in both dental and medical assisting. But it's really hard for her to find any jobs right now. She's even gotten to the point where she's willing to do office work. She's never wanted to do that because she's had carpal tunnel surgery on both arms.

jamiebowers: Good point. It seems that you have to be either rich to take care of yourself or be in poverty so the government will take care of you. If you're just barely above poverty, you're on your own. Btw, I'm sorry about your mom shunning you. The reason I called my mom tonight was because I haven't talked to her in a couple of weeks, and I missed her. I can't imagine what's it's like to be shunned by my mom. I just hope I'll never find out. The thought scares me that, if I end up eventually moving in with the guy I'm with now, and the elders find out and decide to df me, that my mom will decide to shun me.

She's 53 and currently unemployed. She's living with my dad's parents(her dad is dead and her mom is not a jw so she's living with my dad's parents who are jws.) She's looking for a job, been on some interviews, but nobody wants to hire her.

It's so depressing. We were talking about what she's going to do as she gets older and reaches retirement age. She's hoping that she'll either find someone who can take care of her or hoping that this system will end. I just started asking her questions about what she's doing to lose weight so that I didn't have to hear her talk about this system ending. It really saddens me to hear her talk like that. I wish I could grab her by the shoulders and shake it out of her. As much as I don't want my mom man hunting, I really do hope she finds someone who could take care of her. But I also know that's nearly impossible in jw world. I don't know what I'm going to do with my mom when she get really old. I just left the jws last year. I've pioneered for most of my adult life which means I've just started working full-time, for the first time, a few months ago. And I'm living paycheck to paycheck. I don't make enough money to start saving for my own retirement, let alone to take care of my mom in her old age. What do children of jws who have no retirement plan do? How do you take care of your parents when you can barely take care of yourself?

funnyface: There were 2 men and 3 women, or maybe I should say young men and young women. They looked like they were around 18 or so.
cameo-d: JWs wear normal people clothes also, except for when they're in the ministry. Then, they weae dress clothes. These people were wearing casual clothes such as jeans. Like I said a few post up in my response to Ding, clothes that you would see kids wearing to high school. JWs don't wear jeans in the ministry. I've seen some men wear khakis, but jeans are definitely not allowed.

Ding: No, they weren't mormons. No white shirts or nameplates. They were all young and wearing casual clothes. The kind of clothes you would see any young person wear to high school. I saw them talking to my down stairs neighbor, and they handed him a pamplet.

There were some preachers at my apartment building. Not sure which religion they were, but definitely not jws. They were wearing normal people clothing. Anyway, I was hoping they would come to my door because I was curious to know which religion it was. They saw me get out of my car and walk passed them and go into my apartment. But they never came. I guess Jesus doesn't love me.
