It's about progress, not perfection...
by scratchme1010 ini guess at this point in time and space i'm ok if there's an indication of things going in the right direction.. my jw father, who joined the jws in 1973 when i was 8, has always had all the characteristics of the stereotypical brainwashed born again weirdo.
as a jw he always felt the need to show that he was more devoted than the rest of the crop.
to him, life became very easy from that point on: "the bible", interpreted by the millions of wt publications, along with the information in the meetings and getting involved in all jw activities, were the answer to everything and anything in his life".

Thanks for the update, can you tell the kids about when you were young and why things didn't make sense. Changes (new light) etc.; and ask what they are thinking. Keep encouraging education!
Keep us in the loop.

How/when did you become a jehovas witness?
by Lewis1998 inso i've been a protestant for most of my life, it's how i was raised, but recently i started questioning my faith more and more and now i feel like my beliefs resemble that of a jehovas witness rather than a protestant.
i don't know any jehovas witnesses, so i was just wondering how a lot of you found the religion and adapted to it?.

Lewis, this website is for EX Witnesses for the most part, I was raised in the religion and left after high school never being baptized. I still have some family in the faith so try to keep informed with current teachings. The religion has changed so much in the last 40 years I don't recognize most of the beliefs.

Went to the 69 assembly in Vancouver, my sister drove as I didn't drive then. She is still in and one of her sons, everyone else is out. Saw some cousins, and they are out. We were from Seattle and in those days we didn't need passports.

Armageddon is not just around the corner! They said that when I was in my teens and that was nearly 50 years ago. You have the rest of your own life, to plan, to retire, to explore without the witness blinders. Take your time, the search function on this site has sooo much information. Some of the older posts are wonderful; check out Amazing's posts about bringing his family out of that mess. He used family study time to ask questions and lead them slowly to logic (of all things).
Welcome to a long journey.

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

I love mine too, got them at estate sales long ago. Sometime you can find one at a thrift store or antique stores for less than the Lodge and so much better. Wish I could have my moms pans. If you have a self cleaning oven you can clean them in there too.
Don't drop them on your toes when barefoot. Ask me how I found out. Did you know they don't put a cast or brace on broken toes; just tape them to the next toe.
