Going along with what Heaven said about how the Bible can be used anyway anyone wants to, and especially since Revelation is symbolic, any nutcase can come along and say he (or they) fulfill those scriptures. And many nutcases have! How many crazy fringe cults have started because someone says they fulfill some scripture and then they get a following. It's scary.

My JW Friend's Justification for the WT Being God's Chosen Organisation
by maputo95 inbelow is my jw friend's "proof" that the wt is god's only organisation and mouthpiece on earth.
he has yet to reinforce his strange story by biblical text or the church fathers or any historical evidence.. please, suggest how i may respond to his assertion.
i believe that this is the fundamental doctrine of the 'borg' and the one on which wt credibility rests.. thank you.. .

What They Tell a CO
by WalkTall indid it ever bother any of you that you and your family were talked about to the co during the elders meeting with him?
and for those who have been elders, my question is: how much do they tell him?
for some reason, it has always bothered me that this man, who is a complete stranger really, is informed of family or personal situations through the lense of elder's opinions.

Thanks all. This is just one of the those things about this religion that always made me uncomfortable, even when I was a firm believer. To think that a person's 'sprituality' is being reported on and evaluated by a group of men behind closed doors, is just creepy I always wondered when talking to the CO what he thinks he knows about me and my family.

Thanks Blondie...I'll do that next time.
Griffin, the Patterson town supervisor, also asked the order to not canvass in town and, he said, the Witnesses have complied with that request 100 percent.
Does this mean they do no door-to-door work in Patterson? How can they agree to this? What about the 'life-saving' message? Aren't there JW's in banned countries who are risking their lives so as not to be 'bloodguilty' by not preaching the message. But they agree not to do that in a whole town so that they can develop real estate and not pay property taxes! Is that what this means???

The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path of Loving Kindness- No need for religion in spirituality
by OnTheWayOut inreading tmj4477's thread about religion after jw's and reading perry trying to counter ak-jeff on a thread about god and suffering, both of these made me want to post some eastern thought that doesn't fall into the category of "religious" but might help nonetheless.. .
excerpt from the wisdom of no escape (with subtitle: and the path of loving-kindness).
chapter 8: no such thing as a true storyin taoism there's a famous saying that goes, "the tao that can be spoken is not the ultimate tao.

Me too, wildflower. The Tao has so much wisdom, some of which can be found in the Bible as well, but minus the fairy tales and gory history.
Thanks so much for posting this, OTWO. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And, Burn the Ships, I enjoyed your posting too. I continue to learn from this board all the time. I have done more thinking, and soul searching, from reading this board, than I ever did in my over 30 years as a Witness.

Wildflower, it's because it helps their image. They get good PR for disaster relief. Would those same food supplies be offered to local brothers and sisters who are in need because of lack of employment, ill health, or some unfortunate circumstance. I have never know the organization itself to do anything for the poor among its members. But when there are headline making events, they open their wallets (a little).

That will never happen metatron. Sisters need to keep their 'place' in the organization....doing the bulk of the door knocking work...and lest I forget they can participate in the 'privilege' of cleaning the bathrooms.

What if he was a real person, but then his activities and persona were embellished after he died? It seems to be human nature, even today, to remember people who have died differently than who they really were. For example, my grandmother was not a very nice person and when she was alive, my mom and her siblings moaned and groaned about her all the time. After she died, you would have thought she was the best mother that ever lived. Imagine a strong and dynamic individual like Jesus, who perhaps was even a revolutionary of his time. The subjective reactions of people to a smart and charismatic person like Jesus, someone who touched their lives, could have clouded the realities of his life, and their retelling of what he said and did became what they wanted him to be, the way their minds remembered him. It was what, 60 years, before they finally started writing down his biography. How the stories could have grown in that time. That's my opinion on it anyway.

Clearly, a true Christian's spiritual advancement is not connected to his personal appearance, natural abilities, or
prominence. And it may not necessarily be reflected in years of service in the congregation. Rather, true spiritual
advancement is made manifest by our being obedient to Jehovah in thought, speech, and conduct.
Paragraph 18 is a crock. In Witness speak, they are talking in circles. Our 'spriritual advancement' is made manifest by our being obedient to the GB (not Jehovah) in thought, speech, and conduct. And the GB tells us that our 'spiritual advancement' is evidenced by obeying their rules on dress and grooming, preaching, and reaching out for privileges. In this religion, there is not true spiritual advancement (a ridiculous phrase to being with)by just being a good, honest, moral, and compassionate person. So they are making it appear that these outward appearances are not important in a spiritual sense, but negate that thought in the next sentence because we all know what "being obedient to Jehovah" really means.
Thanks Blondie for getting this out before I have to attend the meeting tomorrow. Reading your comments ahead of time really helps me to get through this nonsense.
