The dictaphone theory is not how the Bible was written. We see the human element in the different writing styles of the authors (Pauline and Johannine styles are different, even in the Greek nuances). However, inspiration ensures the accurate recording of what God wanted to be preserved, even down to the grammar (with small changes affecting meaning in some cases). The lies of Satan and men are in Scripture. They are inspired in the sense that they are accurately recorded. Revelation refers to divine truth from God. It is also accurately recorded. Illumination is the work of the Spirit so we can understand and apply the Word. Heart transformation vs mere head knowledge is the goal.

How many gods are there?
by jgnat inchristianity was birthed in a polytheistic world, inheriting from jewish roots the concept of one g-d. now, instead of one god for israel, we are offered one god for the whole world.
caesar (mortal men) was declared a god.
gods had powers beyond ordinary men, could grant requests, and demanded sacrifice and worship.

JWs are right to think the Bible is God's inspired Word. They are wrong to think that their sectarian NWT is an accurate, trustworthy translation.

Can you answer: What is "The Truth™"?
by serenitynow! ini mean can someone, preferably an active jw, explain in 5 sentences or less what that really means?.
i ask because of the long post that "20571..." made on another thread about how "the truth" is better than this, that and the other thing.. what does it really mean?.

If Hindus and Egyptians have source documents that are old or if Plato wrong before the Gospels, it does not make it true. It is a logical fallacy to think antiquity makes something true. The biblical Genesis record goes back to the beginning of creation and is monotheistic (Gen. 1:1). If something was recorded in another culture that predates it (such as a pagan belief system), it does not make it true.
This seems like a side diversion. Our interest should be what is true or false about God now. Does God exist? Is He YHWH? Is He Allah? Are there millions of Hindu gods that are not demons?

God is the most valuable, awesome, beautiful, glorious, majestic being (perfect) in the universe. Value obligates. He is worthy of worship. This is not selfish nor ego. If there was something more valuable, we would be obligated to exalt it. The Bible portrays God being worshipped. He commands worship, in spirit and in truth. Revelation/heaven is a scene of endless worthship/worship. He is exalted. Isaiah has God saying there are no other gods before or after Him. He knows none. False gods are so-called gods, not true God by nature.
You guys are in a vacuum of spiritual ignorance due to rejection of Christ and His Word.
P.S. Only the original autographs are inspired, but translations are highly accurate due to the wealth of manuscript evidence.

Hi :-)
by GiveMeAnAspirin inhi, i am a catholic.
i've never been a jw nor ever tried to become one but i know a number of former jws and one or two current/active jws.. i've been wondering why active jws are so anti-catholic; is it part of the teaching they receive in the watchtower?.
cheers.

Many JWs are former Catholics. Too many Catholics do not know their Bibles. The extra/contrabiblical Catholic doctrines/trappings fall when the Bible is used against an ill equipped Catholic. JWs dance circles with proof texts, so unless a person knows the Bible in context, they are potential converts. Heresy is a mix of truth and error. JWs are very anti-trinitarian, anti-hell, anti-Deity of Christ, etc., so Catholics would be a large group to lump in as pagan Christendom. Some Catholics are Christians, while others are nominal, religious, ritualistic. It is far less likely for an evangelical to convert to JW (more likely born again, more likely know the Bible and are aware of JW/Mormon cult).

A buzz word for a JW can have meaning to non-JWs. It is truth that smoking causes cancer. Those who deny this are believing a lie.

God alone is true God by nature. He alone is worthy of worship. He alone is eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent. The main definition of God/Deity relates to the one, true, living God.
Are you a relativist? Do you have a problem with 2+2=4 being true and 2+2=5 being false (true/false is descriptive, not dirty words).
Any other gods are so-called, false gods, not God/Deity by inherent uncreated nature. I can make anything a god, but it will not be the eternal, uncreated, worthy, Living God. Satan is called a god, but he is clearly a false god. He is not eternal, not good, not holy, not loving. He does not have the attributes or character of Deity. He wants people to worship him as a god, but that does not make Him eternal God worthy of worship.
Satan is real, personal. He is supernatural spirit, but finite. His power and authority is limited. His final destiny will be the lake of fire.
I can tell you the biblical view, but you can accept or reject it as true. If you have a low view of Scripture (vs infallible, inspired, authoritative), then we do not have the same source for truth. Your sources would be fallible and should bow to Scripture. If you do not think the Bible is God's Word, then your opinions are as good or bad as any other person.
God is a responsible Creator and has revealed Himself in creation, Christ, Word of God. The Bible claims to be inspired. Jesus also views the OT as such.
I am not sure why you have an aversion to absolutes. It is possible to be right or wrong on any given issue. Why assume we all must be wrong or non-dogmatic about everything.

Huh? Chinese views are not necessarily true, just like liberal pseudo-scholarship (Jesus Seminar; Wellhausen's documentary hypothesis JDEP, etc.) is not true. Evolutionary assumptions are also not true about man (we did not evolve from cave man, but Adam/Eve's offspring were fallen and lesser than they were). The biblical account is that monotheism predates polytheism. If the Chinese say the opposite, they are wrong (don't trust atheistic views personally; Dawkins is also an idiot and is clueless about religion).

Sikhs believe in one God, but Hinduism is henotheistic, 3 main gods among millions of gods. There is only one true God who is uncreated Creator. He alone is worthy of worship. Finite godism/polytheism is an illogical worldview. Any false god is a so-called god, not a true one by nature. It is not a modern construct, but divine revelation from the beginning.

There is ONE true God by nature (eternal, uncreated, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent). He is triune (compound unity), not solitary. He is not 3 gods, not 3 persons in 1 person, but one God (being, nature, substance, essence, ontology, metaphysics) with 3 personal distinctions (not mere modes/offices) that are co-eternal, co-equal, co-essential.
Any other gods are false gods or so-called gods, not God by nature/being (Gal. 4:8; I Cor. 8:4-6). Delegated evil judges (Ps./Jn.), Satan, idols, angels, etc. are not true God by nature. They are so-called gods in a limited or false sense.
Jesus is true God, Almighty God, the God-Man (one person with two natures).
Monotheism goes back to the Garden before the Fall. Polytheism is a lie of Satan and sprouted after monotheism. Israel was disciplined when she compromised with polytheism. Mormon/LDS is tritheism/polytheism as is the pantheon of Hindu gods.
The trinitarian view is strictly monotheistic since there is only one uncreated spirit of God, not 3 gods/spirits/beings.
