Becoming of the anointed & seeing the light
by discreetslave ini was recently born again and thus am anointed because of this i have come to realize that though there are sincere people who are jw, some teachings are fine but the wt organization is a fraud.
here is my story sorry if it's a bit long but i need to tell it.. 16 years ago today i was baptized as one of jw's.
i was 17 years old the only one in my family.

Chess Watchtower Irony
by Marvin Shilmer inchess watchtower irony .
today i uploaded a new article that highlights an irony regarding watchtower and the game of chess.
old timers will get a hoot out of the image ive loaded, and theyll see the irony right away.

I guess I cannot be a JW. I love chess and critical thinking skills. WT is afraid of their own shadow. It reminds me of my godly, abstaining Grandmother who would not let me by 'Beer Nuts' as a kid (she thought they had alcohol or the fact some eat them while drinking beer would be unChristian; oh, don't say 'holy Moses' around her either; only God is holy).

Logical Questions to Make Them Think?
by sweet pea inthis has no doubt been covered before and if anyone has any favourite threads on this subject perhaps they could post them here .
what are your best one liners/questions to make jw's think?.
i had a heated conversation with my mum this weekend and apart from mainly going round in circles (as is often the case with brainwashed cult members) one thing made her stop and i could see that she was having major trouble processing the logic.

There is a difference between generic questions from skeptics used again all theistic religions (atheism vs theism) and questions specific to WT, but not to non-cultic Christianity (we can go after WT/GB, but not against God, Bible, Christ).

2011 District Convention "Let Us Be Bored and Confused Into Obedience"
by ranmac inthis has already been discussed but i need to vent.. i just spent the most painful weekend of my life sitting thru this years dc.
what an unbelievably pointless, soulless and demeaning spectacle the assemblies are.
the three days were a blur of monotanous droning and brainwashing.

The same JWs who shun sponsoring starving children or other charitable works (inner city feeding; child poverty, etc.) probably spend hours/week in leisure, watching TV, sitting in their yard, gardening, shopping, sitting in religious meetings out of duty, eating out, going to movies, etc. They are hypocritical Pharisees. Mormons and evangelicals and Catholics are opposite theologically, but we will stand together as moral people against abortion and same sex marriage without compromising our spiritual convictions and the primacy of our gospel message. JWs are them vs everyone else, no matter how good or bad (fortress mentality). We agree that ultimate answers are in God's kingdom and the King's return, but wisdom also dictates planning for retirement, providing for family, serving the community, impacting our world in more ways that literature door-to-door (largely ineffectual). It should be both/and, not either/or if nothing else. William Booth/Salvation Army understood these issues and there will be many people in heaven because of his concern for the whole man (I usually support parachurch ministries that combine gospel preaching and meeting needs of the whole person; if one gives to an organization that saves lives or eyesight, then they could read the literature and go door-to-door, duh).

We will not be in the Millennium until after Armageddon and the visible Second Coming of Christ. Does WT not understand simple chronology in the Book of Revelation? When Jesus returns, we will know it (unlike 1914 farce of invisible return with world still in a big mess). Jesus will also be ruling from Jerusalem with the Church, not an aloof, absent Deity high in the sky.

There is no magic bullet, but I wish....(Jesus is the crux of the matter at the end of the day).

The magazines didn't used to be so dumb and boring

*** w50 6/15 p. 180 a victory dedicated to jehovahs honor ***.
the strategy, and the attack.

WT has much quantity, but poor quality. So-called Christendom's writers, scholars, and literature are light years ahead (this is why Bethel library has so much of it, but they distort it).

What is the most offensive/idiotic piece of WT literature you've read from the past 20 years (approximately)?
by Chemical Emotions ini think that some of the dumbest were ones that pertained to science- not all of them, but a few, particularly the ones about evolution.
the most offensive (and also dumbest) were the ones about women, and the ones about rape.
those were horrible.

An old Freeminds article about the children's Bible story book indicates it implants theocratic organizational thinking with Noah's Genesis story, etc. Clever to start indoctrinating at a young age. The Ark that saves is not the WT/GB/Society, but the Lord Jesus Christ.

You have my sympathy. If possible, never become a JW (do what you know is right) and do what you can to save the marriage (in my mind this will take a miracle from the real Jesus). Groups that break up families and marriages directly or indirectly are cults, not Christian.

Never been JW, but I am your friendly neighborhood token evangelical Christian (Pentecostal)...not that anyone cares.
