I never understood why field service was at 9 AM on a Saturday morning. Why not 2 in the afternoon? Or noon? Or 4 PM on Sunday?
People just LOVE being woken up or bothered on their one day off.
when you are a jw it is pounded into your head that the "world" hates you, wants to kill you, runs around saying all kinds of horrible things about you, and would take away all your rights, freedom of religion, etc, if it could.. when i first left the wtbts organization i told "worldly" friends and family about being a jehovah's witness.
not one of them said anything disrespectful, rude, insulting, or even unkind in any way.
i could just as well have said "i'm a baptist", or "i like comic books".. a few people who know that the wtbts is a cult were concerned over my emotional health, but that was out of a sense of friendship.. i have never met anyone who on hearing the phrase "jehovah's witness" got upset or said "those xxxxx".
my mom just called (she is an active jehovah's witness) she basically has very little to do with me.
however she want's to come and visit me and my wife on christmas day .
she lives in another state and wants spend the night.
i distinctly remember the last talk i gave.
it was a talk in the "back" school.
everyone in the room was someone i had known most of my life.
I distinctly remember the last talk I gave. I had been on the school for something like 20 years. I was 30 something, 35 maybe. It was a talk in the "back" school. Everyone in the room was someone I had known most of my life. I am a naturally born speaker, so for me giving a talk was just another day. Anyway, we had a new school OVERSEER who I had never spoken to before, I think he was new to the Kingdom Hall. This guy was a real piece of work, I think he thought that he was a Konzentrationslager-Vorarbeiter.
Anyway, remember the points we had to work on? I had given so many talks and I am such a natural born speaker I didn't even know what point I was working on. Anyway, I give my talk and then the brother wants to "counsel" me on some esoteric aspect of one of the points I was working on. I didn't know what point I was working on and I started to explain that "Brother XXXX, I have been giving talks for over 20 years..." and the Konzentrationslager-Vorarbeiter cut me off in mid sentence and screamed at me "I DON"T CARE HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN GIVING TALKS". There were children in the room and everyone in the room was my friend and I held up my hand and said "Brother XXXX, I don't know who you are used to dealing with but if you speak to me like that again we are going to go outside and finish this conversation, I'm not going to be berated and what is wrong with you that you act like that in front of children"? With that I left the room and so did everyone who did not have a talk to give. LOL
Needless to say I was removed from the THEOCRATIC Ministry School by the Konzentrationslager-Vorarbeiter.
our odd body of elders would not allow the one person who wanted to mow the lawn at the kingdom hall to do this because he was not getting 10 hours in a month, he was only getting in 7. seriously.. were you ever told you couldn't have a "privilege" because you didn't measure up to their lofty standards?.

All the time. I left a gang that was "blood in, blood out", fought consantly with my Marine father who was VERY opposed, well the list goes on, but I was not "Exemplary" because I hated selling magazines in the name of God.
My friends all went to Bethel and the "elder" who turned down my request to apply spent actually 30 seconds with me and did not know my name. His sole basis for his decision was my field service report, I think my average was 8 or 9 hours. BUT, I went in field service with the threat hanging over my head from my father of being beaten if he found out I did that. But, I was not exemplary, AWWWW the love.
After reading stories about what life at Bethel was like, I would have lasted about five minutes at Bethel. As soon as I saw I was supposed to live in a 2 person apartment with 6 other people I would have said "I'm out". Or, if someone had told me I couldn't go out for breakfast but had to eat in the communal hall I would have been like "yeah, right". (I LOVE breakfast and I always go out for a nice big breakfast.) No way I am wolfing breakfast down in 20 minutes and then being harangued by some old farts. NO WAY. So, if I had gone to Bethel I am sure I would have been asked to leave on my first or second day. LOL.

A few people who know that the WTBTS is a cult were concerned over my emotional health, but that was out of a sense of friendship.
I have never met ANYONE who on hearing the phrase "Jehovah's Witness" got upset or said "THOSE XXXXX". Most people really don't care.
I was in Brooklyn with a girlfriend several years ago and we could see the WTBTS HQ building and my girlfriend said "oh look honey the Jehovah's Witness building". And that was it.
Just another lie that the WTBTS preaches that proves they are a cult.
often mentioned but some of us don't know what it refers too (except the fact they charged for parking when they didn't have too - could be argued it offsets the cost of stadium hire).
is there a specifc example with how much money is raised?.
Convention centers offer various deals when it comes to parking. These are the 3 main options in terms of parking:
1. You can let the convention center charge for parking in which case the rental fee will be less,
2. You can charge for parking yourself, in which case you have to split the parking fees with the convention center,
3. You can offer free parking, in which case your rental fee will be slightly more but your convention attendees dont' have to pay for parking.
When you rent a convention facility you sign a CONTRACT stipulating terms including parking arrangements.
The WTBTS was telling convention centers that they were not going to charge for parking and did not want the convention center to charge for parking, then the WTBTS told each congregation to sell parking tickets in advance. The excuse used was that this was a new "arrangement" to make things more efficient. They even quoted some scriptures to that effect. The real reason for the new "arrangement" was to scam the convention center out of the parking fees.
Here is how you know this was a scam. You could not buy tickets at the convention itself. One year, I had been very ill and was not at the meetings when the parking tickets were sold. I just figured I woudl buy them at the convention. They were not for sale. Why would the WTBTS not sell the convention parking tickets at the convention? Only one reason. They did not want the convention center management to know they were charging for parking.
Many cities caught on to this scam and then blacklisted Jehovah's Witnesses from ever using their convention center again. I know for a fact that Augusta Georgia did that because I know the manager of the facility. THe WTBTS claimed that these convention centers were refusing to rent to the WTBTS because of RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION. This was a bold faced lie. I asked my friend in Augusta about this and he just made a disgusted sound and said "NO, we won't rent to them because they ripped us off and we offered for them to make restitution and they could use the facility again but they refused so we black listed them".
just supposing that you belive in it... i used to always wonder, how on earth are we going to get from one country to the other?
i mean old type ships used to take months to get around!
what about land travel?
Here's another problem.
Since it is a 1,000 year reign before Satan is let loose "for a little while" so that everyone who lived through the big A and the 1,000 years of "blissful" life with no conveniences and chemical, biological, and nuclear hazards everywhere can bet tested to see if they REALLY love God or was this all just a charade. But I digress. That means that sickness and death are done away with.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, what happens to those who are resurrected and say "hmmm, I get to do only what a bunch of old smart aleck elders and ministerial servants TELL me to do? NO THANK YOU, I'm going to go off and do my own thing". And that 'own thing' includes robbing, pillaging, looting, killing, raping, and sleeping in on Sundays.
Then what? There is no death, no one can die until the second death after the 1,000 years is over and the "little while" that Satan is let loose.
How do you deal with rascals? Will there be an army? Police? Jails?
i have been on a "totally messed up stories in the bible" kick lately.
here is one that i uncovered, i don't remember having read it before.
enjoy.. 1 samuel chapter 5. the philistines, having captured the ark of god, transferred it from ebenezer to ashdod.
The quote came from the New American Bible. I checked this scripture against two dozen other Bibles using http://bible.cc/1_samuel/5-6.htm where you can see how parallel translations render the same verse.
Most of the concordances explain this strange verse by saying that it was "bleeding piles" and that the ancients viewed ailments in the private parts as curses from the gods. The KJV in several places adds ....in their secret parts... after the word emerods.
From everything I read the sense is definitely of hemmoroids in the "secret parts" and Not bubonic plague.
The word tumor or tumour rendered in same versions has the sense of scabs or itching or running open sores, not the kind of tumor that modern day people are faimiliar with.
I think hemmoroid is the correct translation of the word. In ancient times tumor would have been understood to have been a hemorroid like condition.

The root Hebrew word ??? transliterated aphal, pronounced aw-fal literally means "to swell up".
Various translations translate this word as:
sores
tumours
emorods (KJV adds "... in their secret parts")
hemmoroids
When I looked up the word tumour it gave hemmoroids as a synonym.
The KJV renders it "they had emerods in their secret parts"
